Why are people so worried about blogs corrupting the Internet, anyway? I don't understand the problem. If Google happens to turn up my blog in a search for something, and my listing is distracting people from finding "reputable sources", then how reputable could said sources really be? I mean, if someone's silly blog like mine has a higher pagerank than someone's site, then I feel like the problem is theirs, not mine. Seriously. You probably need to work on your site content, if a lowly personal blog can get listings ahead of yours.

And I speak of myself as an example only as example. Because I know full well my blog doesn't threaten the Internet in any way. There's more traffic in a ghost town. Mine is little more than a gripe-list, and way for my family to see I'm still alive without needing to call me.

If you hate blogs, then don't read them. But why do so many people feel they are polluting the WWW?

If we wanted to play "special" Jenga, we would do whatever the blocks said to do, when they were removed. If we had mixed company over, and wanted to just see who knocked the tower down, we just ignored the writing, and played "standard".

I thought SEGA just put all their (console) chips on the table with Dreamcast, and then they got hammered by the PS2, which could play games as well as DVDs, since people saw it as more of a "home-entertainment" system, at the time. Then I thought SEGA moved primarily into software marketing, and away from consoles completely. Didn't SEGA's owner die or something? That had something to do with paradigm shift as well.

  21. Re:a vote for realism on Realism vs. Style: the Zelda Debate · · Score: 0
If Nintendo ported its games to other systems, then no one would buy Nintendo consoles...It only takes a few moments of thought to realize this.

People buy the system to play Zelda and end up purchasing other games as well.

You don't port your exclusives because those are the games that move systems.

Why don't manufacturers (not just Nintendo) make their consoles/hardware BETTER than the others? Wouldn't games not being exclusive to certain consoles make gaming better for everyone? If I had a choice between Xbox and GC and PS2, and they all had (whatever game name, here), I would simply need to choose which console was best from a performance standpoint, and could also fit my budget. And besides... Do they really make that much more money by having a certain game "exclusive" to the XBox, or Gamecube, or whatever? I know they clear more in profit for the sales of their own hardware, versus the developer's costs for creating games for them. But I guess I am dumb, but I can't imagine they'd make more by selling Gamecubes that are the only way to play Zelda (and other games), than they would if they'd port Zelda to other consoles Nintendo's (or Sony's, or Microsoft's) bottom dollar is built by GROSS PRODUCT SALES, not just console sales, is it not?

As to the "exclusive games driving console sales" argument...I thought about that.

Let's say I'm an average gamer, which I am. I don't pretend to be some expert. And I have a PS2. But my PS2 dies for whatever reason. Now it's time to buy a new console. Now I have choices to make. Do I want to replace mine, or buy something else? Speaking personally, my decision would be made on the following factors, mostly in order:

    1. What are the graphics like on the new system?

    2. What's the cost?

    3. Can I use any of my old games/equipment on the new one?

Note that none of my options are "Does it have (insert specific game here).

I just wanted to clarify where I was coming from, and try to tell you guys I wasn't trying to troll at all, I was just making an observation. It was just my opinion. I realize now I am probably of a minority opinion on this subject, and I know we are grossly off track of the article, for which I apologize.

I like how someone moderated me "Troll" for just wishing they'd port what looks to be an awesome game to the console I play on. How tolerant.

I know it's an old debate. But (even given the "console seller" argument), I never understood why it would be bad business to port a game to multiple consoles. To me, it makes about as much sense as some musician only allowing their music to be played on "Sony" CD players.

Someone needs to prove to me how Nintendo makes more money by selling consoles with exclusive game content for, rather than publishing their games on any console or system a gamer decides to play.

Or is it simply a question of Sony/MS not allowing them to port games to their systems?
