People, I mean normal people, don't give a shit about what OS they are using as long as
1. they can still do their businesses 2. they can play startcraft 2
Oh yeah, Linux and Open Source are great but does it really matter to them? Apple looks attractive, but so what?
We should not forget that we use computers for business and entertainment, I mean mainly! Most people don't even know what OSes they are using. PERIOD!
SL is just a scammers' paraidse when it comes to money. Especially all those scam banks just take your money and one day just disappear. The problem is LL doesn't do anything about this and nobody knows where the money goes.
A funny thing is an SL journal was interviewing a 22 year old kid from Denmark, who owned a scammish bank in SL.
I've been using Vista for a month and I agree the OS is quite annoying and application compatibility is a serious drawback for Vista, But I think saying it's unstable is a lot biased since it never crashed on my home desktop. I guess Vista would be better without all those annoying security dialog boxes and FXXX slow indexing service. I want something very small and elegant for my home computer. When it comes to UI, I like it. It's beautiful and very cmofortable to my eyes.
I'm using it and mostly satisfied with it, especially, with outlook likfe user interface. And when it comes to ads, ya it's annoying but nothing is free in this world.
Lastly, for gmail, come on, it's just a plain web mail. Comparing it with Yahoo mail beta is a non-sense to me.

Take my advice seriously since you look far from reality. If you think your job mundane and boring, develop your hobby such as creative programming or whatever else you like to do and do it during your spare time.
Even though the job offer may look fantastic and interesting, once it becomes your job, it just gets boring, mundane, and even stressful. That is a reality and an essential part of every start-up project.
It's true. I've seen two kinds of oneline game addicts. One is playing online games for money. The other is a simple addict. The former, I guess, is in less dangerous situation since their sole purpose is making money by selling game items. They know when to stop and how to manage themselves.
But the latter is in quite a dangerous situation. In South Korea, I already read a dozen of newspaper articles reporting a death of a game addict, usually saying "a guy died of heart attack while playing online games for a week without sleep, eating nothing". This might sound funny but this has happened and is still happening.
If you own a XBOX game, that usually means you own a XBOX. If you want XBOX360, go buy it. But if you want to play your old XBOX game, play it with your old XBOX. Secondly, most game publishers will release XBOX360 version of their "still selling" existing titles.
I'm not even sure we ever need an emulator here although it's definitely a good thing.
My major is computer engineering from a university in South Korea. During my college days, I found out that 95% of TAs/Professors DON'T know anything. But the only thing, I think, they do know is how to write a paper. They do know how to find a way to avoid public attack on your paper and get away with a bullshit, thus still survive.
Then how did I mamage to survive my college life and become a professional engineer? I studied by myself. I just found out how to get a relatively decent grade from those poor professors. And in library, at that time, there were great books written by 5% of real good professors/engineers who could communicate and actually understand what was on the table, and who were honest enough to say "I don't know" or "I know that's a bullshit but that's the only thing I can think of right now to solve the problem!".
I guess the only thing I learned from my college is how to learn somethng independently. Ironically, those poor professors/TAs made me more strong. BUT DON'T you think the tuition is too expensive for the training?
What the hell, I don't know. Anyway I got my degree and recovered my investment.
Clearly you are a rookie and kid because you don't know what the difference between knowledge and experience is. Go out there and learn it by yourself!
Personally although I think GNOME is a great destktop environemnt, it's true that it's so painful to install GNOME packages. I guess something should be done on this matter.
If you don't like your work, do you know the difference between a work and a hobby? If U don't like people you work with, some people hate some other people. That's just the way it is. You will never be able to find a place where you like all the people surrounding you.
If you really want to do something you like, do it as your hobby. After a couple of years later doing your hobby, if you still like to work on that stuff, then start looking for a job.
If you succeed in finding a job you really want to do, then change your job!
Probabilistically, this is quite a practical way of doing something you like.
Remember life is pretty simple and the truth is even simpler!
I'm running a small game room near my home with gamecube and playstation. I bought a small container box and set up a small game cafe inside it. I modified those machines like vending machines and it costs a quarter dollar to play with a playstation for 5 minutes.
A real good thing about the business is all I gotta do is open the door in the moring and close the door in the night. And according to south korean law, I don't need any license as long as I run the business with no more than 2 machines. Of course, south korean IRS even cannot know I'm making small bucks out of the business, which means no tax.
Actually the business is not that profitable but anyway it's better than nothing. But after my retirement as a programmer, I think it might be what I'll happen to be doing for my living.
the starcraft league has become my usual pastime just like I enjoyed MLB when I was in US.
It's very exciting and interesting to watch the games on TV. I see new tactics everyweek. Beating opponents using the tactic over battle net is a joy. Seeing my tactic used by another players makes me excited and more addicted to the game.( I created Raiders tactic in WC3;-) ).
These days, Gillette is sponsoring a league and their ad tactic is simply amazing such as one official map for the league is named "Gillette XXX".
Surely there is a very creative cooperation between game developers, pro gamers, CATV companies, and league sponsors behind the success of this somewhat experimental e-sports. Especially when it comes to "Ad in a game", I see a lot of chances through these leagues.

I started playing the game at age 32 and never played any mario game before.
Man! I never thought I would be addicted to Nintendo games.
Nintendo really knows what a game should be.

it's time to sell google stock. I'm pretty sure they lost their interests in their company.
I still don't understand why that idea works! Who's visiting his website and why?
somewhere trying to make their living by doing something other than programming unless they are dead.

and I still don't see any trace of it.
