If you don't like it, delete halflife and reinstall off of your cd. Don't update, because you didn't buy updates, you bought whats on the cd.
You are half right in your conclusions troll. I have long since uninstalled the programs, pretty much as soon as I heard their plans for Steam. So about that part you are correct.
You are wrong in that I am owed the updates. The product was not bug free when it was shipped. I am still waiting for numerous bug fixes, well I was waiting for them until Steam came to light. I am sorry that your personal expectations are lowered so far that you don't feel the same way. I am more sorry that many in the Half-life community have had their expectations similarly lowered.
So if I dont have Steam on any of my PC's why do I care? 4 friends of mine were in the CoD competition and am sad that they got screwed by Valve's system. That's all.
maybe even plan your event so that valves top employees won't be busy at CES.
After I have purchased software, why should it matter where the employees of the software company are? I paid for it. Its a good thing I don't have to keep track of everyone involved with id, Nerve, Grey Matter, Splash Damage and Activision everytime I want to play a game of Wolfenstein: ET. Hell, that game was free. Wait, wasn't CS free once upon a time? With Steam et al, I can't think of a game that is less free (speech or beer) right now.
Hey troll, the way you defend Steam up and down this thread, you wouldn't happen to be a Valve employee, would you? I can't think of anyone else who would care enough to defend the POS that is Steam.
Make your Windows-friends discover how powerful and friendly Mandrake Linux is: this couldn't be easier than with MandrakeMove!
Friends don't MAKE friends do anything. Sometimes I encourage them to try something. Sometimes I suggest they not do something. Mandrake Linux, the distro for Kim Jong-il. Make your friends use it! Or else!
Since the main point of the story posted is concerning the 4th amendment, why did you only paraphrase that one? I think it is because it does not say what you think it says.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Ok, we can now begin having a discussion over this. A tricky situation isnt it? All that is needed for a warrant, and everything before it, is an oath or affirmation, and for the specific persons or things to be seized and places to be searched to be described. So what does this mean? Well, Constitutionally (capitol C) the word warrant does not appear. In the 4th Amendment the words Court or Judge do not appear. All that it states is that someone has to swear that they have a probable cause to search your arse. Traditionally, We The People have required the warrant be issued by a duly appointed officer of the courts. However, in times when this process breaks down, we fall back on the literal meaning of the 4th. A federal officer swears he has good reason for a search and puts it in writing, he executes the search staking his name on it. If the search is found to be justified he gets a pat on the back. If the search was not justified he could be fired or even brought up on charges. This is nothing new. I don't see a conflict in any of this to the little rant you posted above or the current law. Care to rebut without the use of smileys?
At best you've spread some FUD about the government citing vague anecdotes. I expect better out of slashdot.
I predict a serious amount of protest from groups with "Liberties" in their name over that pesky Amendment 2, other than that, should pass without a hitch.
This feature helps prevent trustworthy users from making changes to a form.
Thats actually the good use for this feature, and how we use it here at work. The document is read and edited by many people, but for the fields or areas that might be formulas or otherwise automatic, we don't want a secretary accidently changing them. Nor does the secretary. The secretary is a "trustworthy user" who is allowed to edit certain parts of the document so we don't need real encryption or protection; the Protect Forms just prevents accidents from happening in other parts.
We wouldn't use Protect Forms to prevent an untrustworthy user access, another type of security would be used. This whole thing is alot of FUD.
I hereby award you worst metaphor of the day on the whole entire internet! By comparing TiVo to a train company and other PVR companies to walking, you have created the least applicable comparison posted on the web in the last 24 hours! Unfortunately, this distinction does not come with any cash reward, though expect someone who agrees with you to mod you up, even though it will be clear they do not understand the issue either! We also would have accepted comparing TiVo to either "like a car" or the Nazi's.
I don't have a TiVo or this VCR, but could one record and playback the same show at the same time and just skip the commercials? Using this VCR can one record live TV, rewind what was just recorded, playback an instant replay, and all the while keep recording so that the show can be rejoined at the point the user chose to replay the live action?
Again, I don't have either product, but if it can't do those things as described in the complaint, its not quite prior art.
Or you could have just made that up. This is a story folks, posted anonymously on the internet. Congrats on getting modded (+1, Slashdot wants to believe). There is no accountability if he is outright lying. If it can be proven MS is outright lying on their webpage, they could be sued. I am disinclined to believe the parent and you should be too.
Actually, I mentioned many posters, not all. Did I say all? Even once? No, but the slashbot POV is that if it is possible using technology it is ok. That is to what I reply. Check the other thread for yourself...
Again, vagaries. You challenged me to provide an example, yet you could not meet your own challenge. Pleae provide a specific example, with reasons, so that I can better understand your point of view.
Kind of a tangental question, but since this is a thread strictly about multiplayer I'll ask. Do you actually play Civ 3 multiplayer? I tried it an it was kind of the ass. I love the single player and always have going back to Civ the first. My memories of my x286 are fuzzy now but I douby I played that at more than 640.;)
Wow, I thought one couldn't steal things that don't exist in physical form. If one can't steal things that aren't real, how could there be a theft? *Chink* What was that sound? The armor of slashbot think again.

Just a little too ironic... don't ya think?
File-sharing: Sure there are illegitimate uses for the technology, but there are a few legit uses. DON'T BAN IT.
RFID: Sure there are a few legit uses for the technology, but there are illegitimate uses. BAN IT!
How is it secret? It tells you exactly what it has just done.

Maybe it just determined you suck.
Deep breath, its a joke.

Because that would be the single most hypocritical thing anyone had ever done. At least thats one obvious reason.
Argue with idiots, and you become an idiot.
Well, I guess this is my last slashdot post.
What does any of that stuff you mentioned have to do with .ogg specifically?
Until its your bar that loses it's liquor license.
This begs the question: Then WTF are you doing in the games section?

Once again, I thought we were taking game quality and not graphics.
You wasted a whole lot of breath replying to arguements I was never going to make.
Now please, once more, specifically, what game would have been better as a PC game, and why?
Not necessarily, suppose it is on but noone is using it...
One has then taken nothing, only borrowed what is not in use.
Wow, you missed the point by a mile. I didn't say I believed that, only that some slashbots did.
