Considering there are about 380 XBOX games and 89 sports games have been published for the system, its safe to say that quite a bit less than 99% of the system's games involve guns.

This is less a comment on the original post and more about whoever modded it insightful instead of funny. This proves that hate and ignorance are alive and kicking on slashdot and that the games section has left too much power in the hands in the fanboy fringe. I say kill the games section or remove the moderation. The games news pieces become Nintendo cheering sections with police with names like Nintendoctor around to ensure only things that show Nintendo in a positive light and XBOX in a negative light get modded up. Its counter to what moderation is all about and a slap in the face to open-minded, progressive readers of this website.

Why do I care who is making those plushes? Nintendo licensed it. They made a(nother) game just to sell plushes and/or trading cards. Your point is not just moot, but wrong.

Now as I was saying, the creator of Metroid, Game Boy and the D-pad is dead. The creator of mario and zelda is 50, yet is such an ego maniac he won't go away and just stays involved enough to prevent them from doing anything new. Nintendo will never, ever, innovate in video games again. Period. Any talent they had in the 80's is now old and senile, and the designers that have replaced them have done nothing but copy the predecessors.

Wait, they did invent the e-reader! They found a way to both sell cards and make you pay for either: software you paid for long ago or the chance to use all the features of the software you just bought. I'm going to assume that since you have yielded to the playground tactic of name-calling you realize you have a weak arguement at best.

So, we have established that the "government" can secure its networks and pre-determine who has access to it. It can also be shown that the "government" can cut-off access to that network, for example if a student is expelled or a federal employee fired.

Now you assert some bizarre FUD-wreaking freedom of speech arguement. To move into this arena you first have to prove that monitoring their own network's traffic is inhibiting some student's freedom of speech. How would that be exactly? Oh thats right, its not. Copyright infringement is against the law no matter where in the US you hang your hat. On campus or off. One could set up a website blasting a professor, a dean, the local represtative, or the president of the united states, all without triggering the system. Remarkable freedom of speech indeed! Of course, if I was having a phone call with my buddy about the state of affairs in Iraq, then called Ashcroft to add him in on three-way, I would fully expect him to write down what I said. So lets see, filesharing across a network, then bringing in the government on three-way by running it through them...ouch, not too smart.

I commend your use of the vague "filters" in the library example. When adults dicuss things we talk about specifics and use clear terms to show that our argument is not based on fallacies of ambiguity. In the case you mention, the "filters" do not monitor bandwidth, but content. Clearly, content is speech, resource management is not. In the future you will want to make sure you are comparing apples to apples to ensure you don't make yourself look foolish.

What was your point again? I bet you'll find you didn't have one. Unless you count argumentum ad hominem as a point. Turns out I'm pretty good at that too!

Compare to such questionable sports enterprises such WWE Raw (this appears on Spike TV, a US cable channel) at 2900k. To crack network "sports" in the US, WWE Smackdown (UPN) will take 5810k. If I have a credit card with a bank, and the banks calls me out of the blue to try to sell me anti-fraud protection, that is legal, and should be. If one is using the material of the copyright, patent, publicity, or trademark rights holder, you have prior business with the entity (business that was initiated by the end user, specifically). Therefore, like Do-Not-Call, that entity is allowed to contact you to offer such wonderful opportunities as settling out of court to avoid a massive infringement lawsuit.

In October, the first full month after the price drop, according to that website, the Gamecube only outsold the XBOX by 80,000 units. I will work on the assumption that they will beat XBOX by the same amount in November and December as well to err in Nintendo's favor here. (This is not likely to be the case since a large push is expected immediately after a price drop, with the effects of the drop falling greatly after the initial couple of weeks, but I'll go with it.) By the end of the holiday season, Nintendo could potentially erase 240,000 of the 1.3 million console lead XBOX has in the US right now. Thats it. And sales of both will slow again after the holidays. Just for fun, if they could maintain that pace it would still take almost a year and a half for the Gamecube to pass the XBOX in installed consoles. Did you say the next one is coming out in 2004 or 2005? Doesn't seem like there is time left in that case...

That is viewing everything in a light most favorable to Nintendo. In reality, XBOX sales are also on the uptick, as stated previously it remains to be seen if the price drop only created a spike in sales that cannot be maintained, and with the release of MK:DD Nintendo has now released ALL of its killer apps for this generation. Thats it, they are all out there. The XBOX can still do a price drop, can still outspend Gamecube in marketing, and can pretty much drive the stake all the way in whenever MS feels like it.

Don't discount the significance of a Japanese game company posting a loss. Its not like pets.com or something over here, that is a huge deal.
