Get a Gateway Anykey It has the left-hand side function keys (a set at the top, too), and is completely reprogrammable so you can put CTRL wherever you want.
Actually, you don't have to upgrade for 1.5 years (approx).. Patrick Volkerding seems to support that last three versions. That's 6-12 months per version, so 1.5 to 3 years between forced upgrades.
Heh. The dock/taskbar/whatever the hell it's called takes up at least 50 pixels of screen real estate in it's default configuration, the Keramik title bars take up another 30 each.. that doesn't leave a lot for the apps.
DirecWay has insane caps -- you get to download 600MB, then they throttle you to about 3kb/s for 24hours. The 600MB cap slowly increases from 0 (you used it up) to 600MB over that period.
Also, latency is terrible. we're talking 600-100ms. SSH would not be fun.
And it's expensive too.
I'd say look for a wireless provider in your area, if there is one. Or maybe (and I don't know if it is even available anymore), if speed is less of an issue but you need good latency, ISDN service? The speed isn't great (11.5kb/s), but it's better than nothing..
Well, since phone is only at about 11Khz anyway, you could cut the sampling rate of the WAV to 22Khz or 11Khz and you would get the same quality but half to 3/4 smaller files..
But honestly.. suggesting that people wouldn't buy a car named Nova because it meant "no go" is like suggesting Americans wouldn't buy an Electrolux vacuum because their slogan is/was "Nothing sucks with like an Electrolux".. kind of silly, really.
They did this before. The made a gracious donation and provided the very poor country of Namibia with copies of Office Professional for a set of 50 laptops that were purchased for the school system. The catch? They had to buy a copy of Windows, for each computer. Somehow, a $2,000 donation of software would have cost them $9,000.
Namibia said "Screw you!" and kept on using Linux.
The 8cm disc is still sold.. mostly as a novelty. Pop out your CD drive. Unless it is a slot-loader, you'll see a 8cm diameter circle in the middle to fit these disks.
My USB flash drive I just bought had the drivers on one of these (to fit the small packaging).
I nearly cut into the damned thing too, considering that it was sandwiched between the two sides of the "hard plastic with a bubble for the product and is damned impossible to get open" package that cheap electronics are sold in..
That's two dupes in one article. A slashdot record?
All depends on whom you ask. Greedo writes "This article at Wired contradicts earlier news that HP was working on getting WMA support built into their branded iPod. "We're not going to be supporting WMA for now," said Muffi Ghadiali, product marketing manager for HP's digital entertainment products group. However, one analyst said that between now and summer, HP may come up with a way to convert WMA to AAC, or an equivalent technical fix. I guess we wait and see."
Reported ages ago (a week? week and a half?)
After that, if it breaks, you get both pieces. Ieshan writes "Microsoft has just decided to resume support for Windows 98 and apparently other product lines, as mentioned in this CNN article. Well, I guess it didn't die for long. They say customers in developing countries weren't made aware of the changes. I say they probably realized that people in developing countries couldn't afford to upgrade entire networks, and might pursue alternatives."
And this one is pushing what, two weeks?
Honestly, this is pretty bad even by Slashdot standards.
Though it is a bit biased toward Linux (I guess it's impossible to write without SOME bias, though), this has got to be the best article about the whole situation I have ever read.
It provides a detailed description of what the supposed 'problem' is, and clearly shows each sides claims.
An excellent article to show to the hestitant boss..

They call it AOL Canada.. I guess COL just didn't have a good ring to it..

From there, you can (hopefully) contact the blacklists individually and convince them to delist you.

So? Plently of other companies will do this. Some for less that $20/year.

This runs simultaneously.

But just give the space under your desk a little kick to make sure. If you hear an "Oof!", there may be a security breach.
And where else but HTML is this convention commonly used to name colours?

It's also cheap to produce..
The mic picks up and amplifies the sound..
Anyone mirrored it?

These stories both were already followed up on. Do we really need another story with the same followup repeated?
Slashdot has enough dupes already! ;)
Just FYI, Casio's cheap ($20-30 CDN) electronic organizers have this sort of thing..
And this one is pushing what, two weeks?

Just don't shake anyone's hand or your glove will shatter..
That's the way legal documents are written. Lots of underlines, bolding and CAPITALS.
