  1. Re:Glad I'm not a Californian anymore on Tinfoil Hat House · · Score: 2, Interesting

Here were some of points that I hit:
The GDP of LA County alone is nearly double that of New Hampshire
New Hampshire ranks 48th in the quality of its colleges according to US News and Reports
Approx. 40% of private sector jobs are provided by foreign-owned companies, the highest of any state
As of 2001, 6.8% of New Hampshire's GDP was exports, second lowest of any state.
New Hampshire received approximately 35% more federal aid than it contributes tax dollars. Compare this to California, who's balance is 28% in the opposite direction.
New Hampshire experienced a decrease in population of nearly 4%.
Based on these facts, New Hampshire is clearly redundant. It offers little that is unique, and economically does very poor. I'm sure that it's a great place to live, but it doesn't cut the mustard when you compare it to other states. Here was my solution:
Combine it with Vermont to form the state of New England, and splite another state into two pieces. The options for that were either Northern and Southern California, or East and West Texas. Admitting Puerto Rico as a state would be considered a last resort.

I think that it's somewhat rash to call someone making a point about graphics in a game "stupid and null". I know that initially what turned me off from Freeciv was the graphics. I think that I would play it more and actively advocate for it more if it were not for the dated graphics. I try to show the game to some of my friends that are used to polished looking games, and my standard reaction is "What the hell is that?". These are people that already play games like Alpha Centauri, which even uses the the Civ2 ruleset.

Part of the enjoyment of playing games for me is admiring the graphics. If two games have identical gameplay, and one has better graphics, the one with the better graphics would be the better in the minds of 95% of the gameplaying population's mind because it looks better. Freeciv is still a game, right?

Furthermore, is it all that difficult to avoid labels such as "stupid and null" when trying to debase someone's argument? It isn't enough to make your point but you have to belittle his (or her's) in doing so? That doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

I think that the music industry is closing in on their possible success with downloading music, as far as innovation is concerned. I mean, I used to be a shameless downloader, but I am an avid ITMS user now. I actually bought an Ipod because of how much I enjoyed the iTunes software. With all of the things that you mention, what really got them going was when people realized that they were a new media and distribution means. Vcr's opened up the whole home video market, and cassette tapes were the first real portable music medium. I think that it's too soon to say whether or not any of your other examples made the *AA any money in the end. All that I know, is if it weren't for CDR's, I wouldn't have half the music collection that I do, and I would have payed for just as much of it.

well, I checked out that that list and it said that most of them worked. However, upon reading the forums and studying that list a little more, it only takes one person to submit to that list to get a game added, and it doesn't have to run on un-tweaked Cedega. I mean, I'm not the sharpest guy when it comes to using Linux, but I've been around it enough to know what's going on, and I couldn't get them working in Cedega half as well as they worked in regular wine. Loki did a native port of Alpha Centauri, but good luck finding it now. A while back I was really trying hard to switch to FC2 from Windows (although FC3 was out at this point), and I was trying to buy games and the like to keep going with it, and all of the places that had even had most of those Loki games were out of stock, save for a few that had made friends with supply and demand and were now outrageously priced.

I had a really negative experience with Cedega. I marched out my parade of DirectX 6 and 7 era games, and I would say that about 90% of them didn't work (Age of Empires, Madden 2002, just to name 2 examples). They almost invariabely worked on plain ol' Wine, though. I'm an advocate for CrossOver, so I got it for free, and I paid for Cedega. I really felt ripped off after using Cedega.

It prevents the government from inhibitting your right to say what you'd like, but by no means absolves you from damages resulting from what you say. Also, to take up your example of the hate group's book, you even say yourself that they served jail time for the actions of others, not so much for what they said.

I guess the best way to summarize is that the first amendment protects your right to be an idiot.

We got chipsets both by SiS, motherboards both manufactured my elitegroup, only I got a Celeron 400 and he got a K6-2 450. Not only did my Celeron run faster, it ran cooler. Now, that was a Celeron. I'm not even sure how much faster a P2 of a similar speed would be. The gist of this is: I doubt that ZD, being a huge company with many investors, would sway so easily. Having used both chips, the Intel ones were faster at the point, and did offer more bang for the buck, at least as far as I can tell.
