I'm sort of bummed that all the stuff I knew about the seven layers of networking is going to be moot eventually, but all the studying of virii and attacks will become more useful.
Today's "new" cities are planned, why not plan the bandwidth as well as the plumbing, water supply, roads. If anybody has ever been to Edmonton, Alberta you could see how a planned city works in so many ways. The streets are all numbered from the centre out (I think it's that way). Give someone your address and they know how to get there just by following the streets. Internet access is becoming just as important as streets nowadays. Unfortunately it has to be done by the governing body, the only drawback I see.
I have a 4-year old myself and obviously would not let him play or watch this. I enjoy it but he is just not able to tell right from wrong yet. It does not make the game any less fun to play, but I am able to rationalize the fantasy. The people that will scream about children getting messed up by this are the same ones that have children that are unruly and not disiplined (you know the ones that use bad words and don't respect anybody). Parenting is the main word here - either do it or have kids that are going to act like monsters.
The mainstream press and acedemics are now saying what/. has been ranting about for years. This is not necessarily a good thing. I believe IP should be reformed, but great care should be taken lest we shoot ourselves in the foot. There are a lot of programmers as well as artists here that could stand to lose their livlihood. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.
How do you see this as racism. I would much more be willing to be called an engineer than a lawyer. I believe the vast majority of/.'ers would also. This is a compliment to the german quality of engineering. Why does any comment about a particular people have to be racist? Maybe if you would quit looking for the politcally correct way, you may see something that broadens your mind instead of your sense of style.
This seems like the "push" technology that was the next big thing a few years ago. Is it coming around again for real or is this just the hype that made it popular years ago coming around again?
Anybody who screws a troll around is alright in my books. Why not post with your name instead of hiding behind AC. Some people like to read the articles here without accidentally hitting a link to tubgirl and goatse. Did it ever occur to you that there may be young children nearby? I assume that you have no moral character in you or personal responsibility.
Who could ever possibly believe such a statement. I am not necessarily anti-MS (maybe a little) but this is just so over the top that it can only be targeted at people without any clue whatsoever. This is not even a good spin on the topic. Remind me never to believe anything MS puts out in a press release.

I take back all of the nasty things I said about MS not helping with the anti-virus fight. Service pack help also! I am astounded. We will have to wait and see what develops, but just this step in the right direction has me all teary eyed. Maybe they aren't the evil empire, Borg, baby eating, satan loving jerks that I thought they were....well I won't go that far just yet.
It should be noted that his work was not actually used. It was a young girl singing his song and not all of it. Not his music, not his voice, only his words. This seems more like a tribute to me. He did not endorse Apple, a small child who likes his music did. It has nothing to do with the parties involved. An artist who makes a living with sampling, suing because of apparently being sampled by a young girl with a bad voice. If he wanted to get uppity about how badly she did, I could see that. Bringing lawyers into the matter is showing that you are less of an artist and more of a marketer. I am not here to defend Apple but to deride artists with frivolous lawsuits.
The song was rapped by a 10-year old in a commercial. If it was hummed, would it count? This is the state of the music industry today, isn't it? An artist tries to get everybody singing their song and then sues anybody singing their song. Maybe the RIAA and SCO are not so different.
