When a game has been mentioned as causing abberant behaviour in our young people (i.e. as an excuse for taking an axe to annoying little sister) sales have gone through the roof

just a thought , but are we tackling the copyright question the wrong way? At the moment what seems to be happening is, industry stooges propose a bill severely limiting/removing our rights, we (that is the interested 'we' not the general public) protest and it gets watered down a bit so we only lose a bit of our rights. then que the next round of bills etc.
    Joe public doesn't notice much
Would it not be better to let one of these stupid bills pass unaltered then when it is applied Joe public MIGHT actually sit up and take notice.
A bit of a risk but it might cause a bit of a culture change. after all the only thing 'our' representatives are scared of is joe public turning on them ( pressure groups can be played off against each other or marginalized as 'terrorists' or 'criminals' especially with all the paranoia around )

If you try to ban this or that kids first reaction is to see what all the fuss is about, instead let them know you're unhappy with their choice of game if you don't approve. As a parent I always try all my kids games ( good excuse to the wife for those 6 hr all- night gaming sessions 'it's for the kids!!!)
I often don't agree with classifications anyway, as the parent my views are much more important than some faceless commitee full of 'special interest' and 'friends' of the great and the good, probably with delinquent kids and several failed relationships anyway.
I believe my kids respect my opinions because I play the games, thus I can steer them towards the games I approve of.

  11. Indications of a failing empire? on Imax Theaters Demur On Controversial Science Films · · Score: 2, Insightful

History teaches us that an empire rises because of inovation, either in the art of war and/or commerce. Look at the Romans with their legions or the British with their navy and the Americans with their commerce, productivity and armed forces after the second world war.

Similarly an Empire falls when it either fails to deal with new inovation or knowledge, or its people become indolent and self-centered or decadent.
In the Middle age's Arab civilisation was vastly in advance of Dark age Europe, mainly because it had a religious view that respected learning and knowledge and was not afraid of learning from others , even if they were not of the same religion or creed, it saved much knowledge from the Greeks that was lost in Europe due to the actions of religious zealots

I think this is just another indicator of the end of the American century, its a shame because America, whilst far from perfect, has or had a lot of good things to teach the world.
