No, BBC isn't state sponosred media, it's tax payers sponsored media (rather directly). While goverment has some oversight of BBC, comparing that RT or Xinhua is laughable at best. Both ar propaganda mouths of their respective goverments, and don't hide in shame about that.
Sorry, but I will take BBC over any of these any day. Call me Western capitalist whore if you like.
You tackled main issue here - fear. Fear is primal instinct, and you can't sway it away with logic. People fear what they don't see. In fear people will justify any avoidance with any arguments. Heck, they will think that they don't have to justify it at all.
Yep, because while Quickly is nice, it's "one size fits all" thingy (if there ever is), and easiest way is to use Glade + Gedit/Geany/Anjuta (or Notepad++, if Windows is your thing).
Anyway, this is good contest. Python with GTK+ is something really nice, and while it has some shortcomings, beginners can very easy start to hack nice looking apps using them.
There is no beef, Microsoft has screwed me and industry so many times over that sorry, but no thanks. Even that new gui makes no sense (I know, it's propably meant for other type of users, but still).
Problem with Microsoft in mobile market that there is already one "Good Enough" king, and that's Android. Lot of stuff indicates that Microsoft don't know how to market this - going after Apple or Android crowd (their overlap, but barerly). For Apple they are lacking offers for rest of the set (no tablets, no sensible integration, no "rebel/cool" factor). For Android, well, they are cheap, and people want only little from touch screen phone, not power horse Nokia offers with Microsoft.
Even there, Nokia did quite stupid and interesting move, selling N9 (with custom MeeGo) like hot cakes in East Europe and other parts of the world. People already *have* proper Nokia new wave smartphone. Why they would have to buy Microsoft one?
What makes me sad that this desperate attempt of entering market will take Nokia's life. Microsoft has destroyed Symbian (huge industry and user base), MeeGo (very potential user base), and pratically best phone hardware producer in the world in one move.
It is funny how people require CEOs, politicans, etc. act accordingly to "all known moral codex", but in same time they are ready to act wrongly, trying to justify because they were badly treatened. Sorry guys, you can't have a cake and eat it too. It's either way - you keep your morale high, even when fired, or you stop complaining how every human on Earth acts on their survival impulses and ignore "social agreement".
Sysadmins and IT managers have huge power. Acting irresponsible in this way not only can land you in jail, but destroy any hope for career you could have. If it was bad working place and you got fired - fine, you did your best, but it wasn't meant to be, hating your former employee will make you feel sick and nothing more, just steam off your anger and be gone. If it was good - don't ruin your memories and memories of others about you. Yeah, maybe management sucked, but your colegues didn't. Maybe they will return a favor of just being nice to them later.
Moral codex is not something artificial. It is basic rules of proper survival. You do good, people will return the favor. Not all of them, no. Someone will try to screw you. But in overall, you will better off being nice person and trying to destroy former working place.
Small side note: well, 50 millions would not include just Russians, but all nations of USSR at that time (he tried to destroy small nations which deemed unstrusted). But I agree, 20 millions are more believable.
As for "Greatest Monster", both Stalin and Hitler were, they both comitted crimes. I don't think we need title for that as it would be some kind of nightmarish competition.
Again commercial map vendors are battling with bling and shiny, not actually hiqh quality data. I guess it is path of less resistance (and marketing dep are happy).
Of course OSM data is not perfect, and it's even less perfect in regions when there are already some solid maps. However, this slowly, but surery changes. In my region it's easily best digital map available. It could be differently in other places.
"Like it or not, the google maps data is a lot more accurate than openstreetmap, and thus is a lot more trustable."
You have any data to backup your claim? And no, it's not "if there's lack of data in our neibourhood, then it must be rest of the world". Because when I see lack of data, I just map them and they are in database in 3 minutes after I have done survey, put data into system and have verified their statuses, routing, etc. Currently it is much better than Google Maps ever was in my region.
OpenStreetMap is not solution for everyone, but it's "good enough" for general crowd definitely - and that's why will check OSM data first anytime.
Google Maps are worst in my region (and essentially that was main reason why I started to work on OpenStreetMap in general), Nokia is clearly much better, and they have done their homework (t.i. their regional office have done checks on the data they have bought), and second one is regional map company who has very detailed maps, but they are outdated in quite a few areas, and they haven't properly digitalised it yet.
It feels that Julian are really afraid to be humiliated in the front of the whole world. He really needs public attention. That case in Sweden will be ugly, no matter what Julian intentions were when sleeping with these girls, if something nasty happened - there will be court, there will be judgment.
As I have always said - he is an arogant ass. Maybe results of his actions have created chain reaction, but in overall, it was very big noise over very little substance. Diplomacy is ugly truth we don't want to know when we buy those cheap mobile phones and food (yep, they are cheap). Exposing it is just like saying - life is difficult, to survive you have to live with some ugly stuff. Did it make people safer? No really. Arab spring? It was just a reason, a cause of it were much deeper. After all this happened, do people care what diplomats thing or do? Most of them don't.
We knew that ACTA sucks before Wikileaks. We knew that North African didactors are ruthless killers. We knew that Putin runs mafia in Russia. We knew all this.
Sorry for being sarcastic, but I don't see how Julian will avoid this one (except running again). And please, don't get me started about how Sweden will send him to US - for starters, UK has been biggest whipping boy for US on such cases. How US haven't requested extradition is quite interesting - either they don't care (less likely), or they can't nail him with current evidence (knowing that even with such explosive charges no country will sent him to US without lenghty evolution of available evidence).
So it is quite possible that he is fighting this because he doesn't want world to know what ass he can be sometimes:)
"The biggest map vendors collect hundreds of attributes at very high quality. This is true particularly for low-number functional classes (highways and motorways). They often meet the 5-m absolute and 1-m relative accuracy for geometry."
Really? My expierence tells otherwise. They have very high quality of isolated patches of the globe. Rest of it is quite dull and lack of any details.
People make those decisions. People have to live with them.
I hate greedy and short sigthed corporations, but we will have to provide something better than "they have long term plans to screw everybody" to get some real support for your cause. Currently it is just anti GE FUD all over the place. It's not right way to deal with Monsanto with friends.
Then I must be happy, because while my spose isn't computer geek, she is in literature and libraries and other really engaging stuff. And my friends and former classmates are geeks more or less too.
Just to be clear: they can, but I wholeheartly agree on having good engineer at least and/or recording producer for it. Having acoustically perfect studio is overblown. You can record vocals in it, but for rest lot of interesting tricks can and is used. Radiohead recorded their last LPs in various places, most of them wasn't studios.
But having good engineer at least is a must, because it speeds up things considerably.
If I will like your performance, I will spare some serious coin (as much as I can afford). I will just past by, sorry, it's not a obligation to feed you.
"We don't need a system where I become a millionaire, but it does need to be enough that I can make music (or books, or any other form of art) my occupation rather than my hobby, if I'm good enough."
But exactly why? Some people has very artistic talents, still, they working as clerks or programmers and play on stage on their free time because they enjoy it.
All acts I have seen in their breaktrough has been superbly talented and therefore their effort was just worth that. If you just below average - then you can make descent art, but it will be a hobby (not bad thing, but you can't hope make a living out of it). It is also a decision - if you want to go for it, you have to sacrifise something. You can't expect everything to fall into line for you.
"Many indie artists tried the service for several months and when the payout time came, they found out they only got a few hundreds (if even that) from the service. It was serious degrade from their previous earnings."
In tradition of claiming problems without giving us any kind of reference, I still was kinda interested how big their previous earnings are and what kind of contracts they had with their publishers before going online?:) Just really want to know, already thanks for any reply.

Wow, judge who actually gives a **** about theoretical intent of the law? Must be something wrong happened. We branched off from main timeline, yes?
Seriously, so much common sense that it is overhelming.
Apple and Google aren't young companies by any standard. Facebook - made some money, but soon will fade away.
Still haven't seen anything truly innovative in Facebook offers.
You tackled main issue here - fear. Fear is primal instinct, and you can't sway it away with logic. People fear what they don't see. In fear people will justify any avoidance with any arguments. Heck, they will think that they don't have to justify it at all.

Sorry, last sentence was meant to "....and *without* trying to destroy your former working place".

I knew it! Those developers are damn liberal hippies! :)
Seriously though, life defining game series.
Why sound servers shoud be compatible? Just stick with PA and be set. Or JACK with plain ALSA, if pro sound is your thing.

In the end it was just a empty posture.
Yeah, we will challenge, we will object...:)

And this problem with GE crops in general how?
People make those decisions. People have to live with them.

It seems that Facebook not only have taken Bill's money, but also followed his footsteps in dealing with competition.
Actually I don't even care anymore. I don't use FB that frueqently, and slowly migrating away to G+ for geeky stuff. For rest I have email :)
Quite a simple idea - make yourself one. As I did. I still have lot of learn, but got basic ideas quite right. They are not that difficult.
And learn, learn, learn.
Just to be clear: they can, but I wholeheartly agree on having good engineer at least and/or recording producer for it. Having acoustically perfect studio is overblown.
