What does this gain you in the end? It's the Internet, the majority of these people you will probably never encounter professionally or personally. The only thing your doing is I guess trying to make yourself feel better about being "attacked"?
Like I said, it's the Internet, who cares? Using your environment as an excuse is often a poor one. Grow beyond it. Get past it. It certainly hasn't made you a better person. People rise and fall, out of and into, situations that are often out of their control. Allowing it to define you shows a weak character. Moving beyond it shows a strong character.
You may feel as though you're empowering yourself by trying to belittle random people who get their kicks from taking pot-shots at you, but guess what? They often don't care. That's what trolling is about.
I'm in my mid 20's and I've mostly grown out of the whole, "but I must defend myself!" routine. It's just tiresome and not worth the effort 99% of the time. Everyone gets sucked in now and then, but it's almost as if you seek it. I say things people don't like all the time. If they disagree, let them. It's no skin off my back.
(By the way, my environment that I grew up in may not have been too violent, but it was pretty fucked up none the less. I grew beyond it. I don't let it define who I am.)
But you're trolling a troll. Trolling is trolling, no matter whose doing it. You could have given up at any moment. Instead you kept going, then went on to regurgitate some of the same information through different posts. It's the internet, who cares? There's no need to get so defensive, especially if you're going AC all the time.
Did you not read the summary? We're talking hours of time here, not say half an hour or so through out the day. Working 5 or 6 out of your 8 hours every day shouldn't be acceptable to anyone especially when you're missing deadlines all the time and the quality is poor. What's the point in taking all of those breaks to regroup if your work is shit and never done on time?
Nor do they have the ability to track your ebook purchases from other websites!
...
But really, your point is moot. Amazon can and only tracks sales from within their own domain, which doesn't make their point "obviously stupid". Their customers buy 3.1 more ebooks on average. They have a shit ton more customers than your used shop or local chains, I would wager. In fact, I doubt most of those shops even sell ebooks. I hope next time you remember that when a website or a chain says, "consumers did this more than this", and you know they can't track from other vendors, it's implied that they mean their own customers.
That was the OP's whole point. How could you have missed that? The boss can't get as much work done because of the distractions. People put on headphones and listen to music to drown out the distractions.
Seeing as how this is Slashdot, and cases like this are talked about and speculated on, on a regular basis, I thought what you had stated was common sense around here. Apparently I had thought wrong.
If you're going to use any "random" game is an example, why would you purposely choose a game that was not very well optimized? Crysis ran pretty poorly on top of the line hardware at the time too (in comparison to other games that looked just as good and ran better). Age of Conan unfortunately resulted from a lot of the same issues. It wasn't as bad as Crysis, but still pretty bad in that regard.
Where exactly is the false claim? Should people who suffer from depression be depressed every single moment of their lives and not try to make it better?
Some people speculate, and I agree with this based on subjective experience, that farmed fish doesn't taste as good as fresh fish. You can grow all the fish you want. Sure, it tastes okay, but I prefer fresh. There's something about fresh fish that makes for a better meal in whatever you tend to use it in. It's considerably more noticeable in Sushi.
While you were jesting, you actually aren't too far from the truth. To over simplify what it does, all of that excess energy created while braking, it dumps that energy back into the battery (or fuel storage device) to help keep it charged. I honestly don't know how much of an effect it has on the batteries to help keeping them charged, but it does do a little charging. I guess the more efficient the system, the more impact it has.
I'm always amused at comments like yours on Slashdot. They somehow get modded up. You're upset because you learn one way and would rather have instructors doing that, ensuring that only a minority do well... Wait a second, that's just what you said! Holy shit, the street goes both ways! You're right in that everyone learns different. Why couldn't you have fully applied that thought to your statements?
Secondly, who fucking cares if it's discriminatory towards students with dyslexia? You think a dyslexic student at any age is going to understand whatever it is that they have written down? The only group of people I see the teaching style that you rage against having a very negative effect against (because of their learning disorders) are pre middle school age. At that point the (even before then really), students are separated into different groups based on their abilities. If you're teaching a lot of slow kids, I doubt someone is going to cover extra material in class. It just doesn't make sense.
Way to strawman the point you obviously missed. No one is claiming they made this part of the game specifically for it. What's being said by the OP's statement is that they "leaked" this specific piece of footage to get people talking about some other aspect of the game.
Contrary to what Canadians want the rest of the world to believe, that is not true.
I had joined a random game in L4D. When I joined, the three other people on my team were obviously in mid sentence. I decided to not use my mic for the time being until I had to. They just kept chatting to each other. They kept talking like that, It wasn't acting for any single person's benefit. It was just normal conversation. After about ten minutes of this, I yell into the mic, "holy shit you Canucks do talk like that!". One of them responded with, "Holy shit a yankee doddle hoser found us out, eh?"
So yes, Canadians do talk like that. Stereotypes exist for a reason.
Well yes, if you buy a cheap SSD, it has a higher potential of not working. But this is true of most anything where there's cheap versus expensive in a technologies early life. Anecdotal evidence versus anecdotal evidence, you see far less people complaining about the higher quality SSD's dying than you do about the lower quality ones. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. It's really that simple, for now anyway.
Odd. I tried Devil May Cry 4 for the PC before I bought it. I did the same thing with Prince of Persia. So if it's a steaming pile of bullshit, why did it work in this instance?
And they want their gross exaggeration on a piracy rate back. It was flawed when 2D boy tried this shit with World of Goo. It's bullshit now. NOT EVERY iPHONE USER HAS A JAIL BROKEN PHONE NOR DOES EVERY USER SUBMIT HIGH SCORES.
I imagine at some point in time, these people are going to develop a swappable battery. And I imagine once that happens, we are going to be able to stop at battery station and swap them out for another one and move along.
I don't see anything trollish about their comments. I don't see anything trollish about yours either. The shysters of the world tend to be well socialized, it's how they work. No one is saying you have to be conman to fit in, but knowing how to socialize helps you to fit in. I know upstanding people who are well socialized, who can talk the talk, yet aren't full of shit and are generally nice people.
I don't seem to recall the person that you're responding to actually snubbing their nose at you. If you're upset that you're not getting anywhere within your own job markets, maybe you should take a deep look at yourself! If you want to be an executive, get the necessary skill set, work for it, and then market yourself. The person that TFA is talking about has repaid their debt to society. If you did something wrong and repaid your debt to society, wouldn't you want someone to give you a second chance?
And you honestly do sound jealous. Hell, I'm a little jealous. I wish I could embezzle money from a company, go to jail, repay my debt to society through jail time, and then get a high paying job again. If you say you aren't jealous, I think you're deluding yourself.
Want to use parks? Too bad. How about sending your child to public school because you can't afford a private school? Too bad. Using the roads to move from point A to point B, can't use those either. Need the services of the police or fireman? Too bad. Deal with the issue yourself.
Now, if you'd rather get off of your high horse and step down from your grand-stand, maybe you'd realize that for the betterment of society, that sometimes your tax money will go towards newer technologies. You are a part of society. You need to contribute. If you do not want to contribute, then I refer you to my first paragraph. Feel free to add anything that the government has subsidized at any point in time to the list.
Well, I don't know about you, but I did read the fucking article. This money is to produce the 40k variant, not the 89k variant. While I imagine some of that loan will go towards the more expensive model, most of it will go towards the cheaper model.
Then we'd have very little innovation. Believe it or not, a lot of companies in a very vast array of different fields have received government money in some fashion along their point in time. Besides, the rich do fund the initial startup costs. These loans are to help build new facilities to ramp up production.
You're forgetting the fact that companies tend to be short sighted and won't invest in something new when they already have something for very very cheap. Why do you think people are actually investing and researching into these types of technologies now and didn't really do so before?
What does this gain you in the end? It's the Internet, the majority of these people you will probably never encounter professionally or personally. The only thing your doing is I guess trying to make yourself feel better about being "attacked"?

You're right, they instead have some high quality copies that are cheap.
