    Mr. Zeller,

I recently was referred to your web page about your program MyTunes.
Your program sounds most excellent, however I note that it is only
available for windows. The internet community would most definitely be
pleased if you were to make this project open source. Since you are
charging nothing, you will only gain from this change.
As open source software, it can be ported by other people, to mac OS X
for example. Development would allow for greater stability, more
features. Also, I believe sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/) will
host such a page for free.

    --his reply--

    Hi,

I absolutely support open source software and have been active in the
    community (see www.zempt.com).

The reason this version was not open source had more to do with the time it
would have taken to choose the correct license as well as getting all the
files together, registering for sourceforge, etc.

I'll hopefully be able to make it open source soon.

    Best Regards,
    Bill Zeller

I'd have to second this idea. It was the first thing that came to mind for me when I read this article.

Basically, get a codebase and strip out a lot of the code. It should be a pretty easy task for anyone with a good programming background. It should go quickly. Make sure that each person has an account set up, so you can ensure that there are no people acting as others.

You'll be able to discuss, and with some custom code, vote. You, as an admin, can see everyone's IP to track them and insure untampered results. Easy!

Best of all, it can be customized to whatever you specifically need.

There's a couple G4 PowerMac models that break because of the update. The problem lies in the Ethernet driver update. For whatever reason the AppleGMACEthernet.kext driver broke on the update. The 10.2.8 version of the extension is 1.3 while the 10.2.6 version is 1.2.4.

To fix the problem find somebody with a copy of 10.2.6 installed. Tar their AppleGMACEthernet.kext and then put it on your system copying it to /System/Library/Extensions. Restart your system and it will load up the old extension and your ethernet ought to work fine.

This was the problem. And also the solution.

  20. Re:Wrong measure for flatness. on Proof Is In: Kansas Is Flatter Than A Pancake · · Score: 1

    I agree.

"One common method of quantifying 'flatness' in geodesy is the 'flattening' ratio. The length of an ellipse's (or arc's) semi-major axis a is compared with its measured semi-minor axis b using the formula for flattening, f = (a - b) / a."

In the case of the surface of the earth, this measurement would be accurate. This is not the case when applied to a pancake. Look down at the graphics of Kansas and the pancake. The pancake corresponds to a plateau. (steep edges, flat on top). Maybe this could be accurate if they didn't count the edges of the pancake.

Note: according to this article's logic, a thinner pancake, otherwise the same, would be flatter than kansas. Likewise, a very thick pancake (or a cube) would be less flat than the rocky mountains.

The flaw here is easy to see if you consider this:
a perfect cube, a box, by this model would not be considered flat at all. Now, this depends on your definition of flat, but the cube would be flat to someone standing on it, right? that's what counts here, someone would be standing on the ground in Kansas.
