I just find it mildly funny (and interesting) that a Picard reference can be taken seriously.. only on slashdot though. I guess I forgot to mention in the original post that I, although I don't really want to admit it, did take the post seriously.

How did this get modded as interesting? I've only heard of the index being stored in RAM. It seems unlikely that all X billion pages in the google cache are in RAM.

What I do, so I get my mail at work and home, is have my client at home leave a copy on the server for 5 days. All of the other clients I use (work, laptop, etc) will just download the mail and not delete.

This works out well because all of my mail clients will download alll of the messages, and I can use the webmail interface to see messages from the past 5 days in case I'm not at one of my computers.

My point was that the article is about a service for getting legit games. Anyone can find pirated software. I don't see how that could be modded up as interesting for such a story.

  17. Re:Been there, done (still doing) that on Comcast Tries Online Game Subscription Route · · Score: 1

Yeah, but service mentioned in the article is for people who want to have legit, non-warez software. Anyone can find warez, especially now with all of the bittorrent sites around.

I'm only replying because someone modded this as interesting. I'm pretty sure the parent was trying to be funny, but some dumbass mod thought it was interesting.

You really liked ROTK game better than Two Towers? Man, I absolutely loved Two Towers -- the controls are tight, it's just so much fun beating up on orcs and learning the new combos. That made me buy ROTK because I thought it would be the same engine as TT but with new content, but there's just something about ROTK that I don't like. It's hard to put my finger on it, but it just isn't as much fun -- it doesn't play the same.

Btw, I'm talking about the GameCube versions. Maybe the PS2/XBox versions are better.. who knows.

I'll have to agree. I have an old laptop that only has 128MB of RAM (can't upgrade anymore). I've fiddled with all of the settings and services and can only get it down to using about 68MB of memory.

That's fine for a system with 128MB of ram.. a web browser or two and an email client without massive swapping but I can't see it working well with just 64MB ram.

Btw, xp was using 122MB of ram after a clean reboot right after the installation. It's amazing how many useless services (and exploitable ones) are enabled by default in XP.
