I would just look at the finger oil lines on the phone's surface and use that to guess what the unlock pattern is. Unless someone wipes their phone down every time, it should be easy to spot.
the issue in cases like this, is the pure unadulterated greed that USA and other western nations display. Combine that greed with lack of regulations and we have results just like this.
How so? This is a bait & switch situation. US company orders a $50 part from China. Someone in China decides to send a $20 part in its' place and pocket the other $30.
I'm in the OE service part industry. We've been dealing with counterfeit parts from China for the past decade, one of the reasons why less companies are allowing any assembly to occur there. The Chinese subsidiary companies will even cheat their own US/Japan mother company....
I saw video comparing the counterfeit to the OE airbags. If the counterfeit bag even deployed, it was very delayed and rarely had enough pressure to actually prevent serious injury.
How is our market closed down? We still buy billions of dollars worth of cheap, useless shit every year.
That's a silly comment considering the trade deficit with China.
As for trust, why would anyone in the business world trust China? They openly steal any intellectual property they can get their hands on. I'm in the auto industry, we learned long ago not to allow any assembled components be produced in China. They can make our brackets and bolts and seals but if we let them do final assembly we'll soon find a poor quality fuel pump on the market being marketed as OEM.
All this is irrelevant to any immoral business practices US companies have. I'm not saying our companies always conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. But in terms of corporate espinage, doing so could land your company in very hot water here.
I just don't understand why some people assume that because a story isn't interesting to them, it's not slashdot worthy.
Here's a hint, if you see the summary and it doesn't interest you, skip over it. I do it all the time, probably only making it to the comment section on 10-20% of the articles.
If I'm driving down a 2-lane highway and have a catastrophic failure in a tire that causes my car to spin out, cross the center line, hit your car killing you... is that really my fault? What if it was a piece of debris in the road that caused the tire to fail?
Accidents happen, I'm so sick of society having to find someone to blame for everything that happens.
I played Torchlight 2 a few years ago when it was called 'Fate'. Heck, they even had pets that changed form and had different attacks depending on the type of fish you fed them.
Demo was ok... but since I've recently purchased Civ V expansion, Diablo 3 and Borderlands 2, I don't see the need for this game.
If these cars are being programmed to swerve in order to avoid a collision, I do not want to ride in one.
They should brake only, swerving tends to lead to worse accidents. I'm also placing my faith in the car that its' reaction time would be far superior to mine, so that braking only would avoid more collisions than I would.
Now that I've thought about my 17 years behind the wheel, not once have I ever had to swerve to avoid a collision. My only accident was my fault when I pulled out in front of someone. I once hit a groundhog at night on a country road, a swerve would have put me into a ditch and still killed the groundhog. (didn't see groundhog until last second).
So Bioware is over-rated because you didn't like BG or NWN style games with their D&D influenced combat?
I can sum up your entire post with one phrase, "I don't like the style of game they put out."
Me, otoh, have enjoyed many BioWare games over the years. I thought their story lines were always well done (even in SWTOR though I only played for 4-5 months).
I'm fascinated with the topic but completely out of my element. Let me ask a basic question about FTL travel and time.
If we make two identical time keeping devices that are exact and are completely impervious to outside influences, keep one on Earth and put the other on a space ship. If the space ship travels at FTL and ends up at Alpha Centari in 5 minutes, let's say, then turn around and travel back to Earth. Would both clocks still be the same?
First of all, I think the quality of the game has something to do with it. UbiSoft has not had as much success lately, so their DRM may be the last straw for some games.
Also, UbiSofts implementation was terrible. Many people had trouble playing a legitimate copy of the game. Blizzard's check is more of a passive system.
Finally, I think it's perception. UbiSoft did it to stop the pirates in a very public manner. Like the RIAA, they claimed to be losing billions in sales to piracy and these measures were needed. Blizzard played it smart, didn't publicize it much and definitely didn't blame the gamers.
Civ V is the only Steam game I have that I play in 'single player' mode. I was curious about if I would be able to play the game without having an internet connection because the game launches through Steam.
I d/c'd my internet connection one day before booting up the computer. Then I tried to load Civ V. It sat there for about 2 minutes (normally just a few seconds) before finally giving me a dialog box along the lines of "internet detection could not be found. Would you like to play in off-line mode?" Then I got a warning saying my saved games might not be available. After that I was able to play the game as normal.
Not completely disconnected but I was happy there was a measure in place that would let me play sans internet connection.
There are way too many factors, I could argue for and against every option.
Basically, with today's society 80 years is about tops. Now, if we advanced as a species to something resembling Earth during ST:TNG's time frame, that would make me want to push 200 years.
Now, don't get me wrong, I really love my wife... but being married for 150+ years, I might take my life before "old age" got to me.
I would just look at the finger oil lines on the phone's surface and use that to guess what the unlock pattern is. Unless someone wipes their phone down every time, it should be easy to spot.
I also saw it in an older war movie, possibly "Bridge over the river Kwai".
They used it to extract a high ranking POW, if memory serves.
my $50 comment was just for example. I haven't looked at airbag prices recently because it's not a commodity I currently work with.

I bet it reads "The cake is a lie"
The band's halftime show a couple days ago is filled with anti PETA propaganda

Otherwise Steve Jobs might have sued them all for wearing a black turtleneck.
You're getting hosed if you have to pay 3x as much for organic food. Where I live, it's maybe a 10% increase.

No, they literally had 30,000 horses lined up to push against the engine to keep it from moving.
I remember that post, something about the sound it made was "boooooeeeing boooeeeeiingg"

So why don't they do this instead of selling it to the balloon industry?

Would you want a "temporary building" housing a billion dollar investment in an area prone to hurricanes?

I'm sure a mold could be used to form it into a shape that would be comfortable as a body armor. Think of Batman's suit.
Why go to all those troubles when the off button would work just as well?
