    In my experience with Chinese "innovation", they take a product that is well known to the more developed areas of the world and create a shitty copy and sell them as the original. They get a higher profit margain because consumers believe the goods to be the real thing while the original manufacturer gets screwed over because the junk products are being sold on the market with their company name attached to it.

    That is the Chinese innovation that I know.

    I didn't know if I should have laughed or cried when I saw this article.. but it just illustrates the problem with our country.. those who make the rules don't have to follow them.

    You would be correct. Honda announced a new plug-in hybrid fit (can go 70 miles on one charge or run off a hybrid system, just like the volt) but I haven't seen it here.

    Of course Cmdr. Taco is from Ann Arbor, maybe he's plugging his home town.

    Nope, I didn't know. I never use the Steam interface, I just launch my game through the start menu.

    I don't like Steam for the simple fact that I can never sell my copy of Civ V unless I want to get rid of my entire account. Right now it's not a big issue since Civ V is the only game I own that uses steam. I also don't appreciate the ads that pop up every time I start up a game. I paid $50-$60 for Civ V (way more than it's worth, IMO, not terribly impressed), stop trying to sell me other games on Steam.

    Personally, I would like Steam for games that released over a year ago.. get them at a cheaper price and no physical media. Brand new games at full price requiring Steam, hate it. I'm paying for 3rd party to be involved that I want nothing to do with.

    How do you collect more data than you want? This isn't a case of they only were hoping for 100 people to respond to their questionaire but got 1000 responses.

    Don't get me wrong, I don't feel sorry for people who leave their wi-fi open to the public. But I can't see how this data collection was an accident on Google's part as you make it sound.

    Star Trek:TNG is still my favorite sci-fi series, I watch whenever I notice it's on BBCA or Syfy.

    From a visual standpoint, I think /. looks best on my BB Storm using Opera Mini when compared to IE8 or Firefox. Of course navigating is much better on a desktop vs the phone.

    Using Facebook is 100% optional. If privacy is an issue, you don't have to give them any personal/private data.

    So I guess you don't email or talk on the phone... because those both eliminate the need for face-to-face conversation. Oh, so does /.

    I don't hang out with my friends nearly as much as I use to... but that's not due to facebook, that is because we're all in our 30s now and most have spouses and young children. But I am able to keep in contact with them on a daily basis, if I need.

    And yes, I understand what Fox News is and don't trust them either... but occasionally they do have real stories. If it's such a negative thing, don't read it.

    I'm curious what will happen to the people who never have to run the gasoline engine (couple mile commute to work and back, no long trips on weekends). Will the gasoline gum up and block the fuel line? Will owners of a Volt need to put an additive in with each tank of gas to prevent it from going bad?

    Every winter I have to prep any spare gasoline in the shed to prevent it from going bad. Could Volt users run into the same problem as my power equipment?

    Congressional income from taxpayer money is a fixed amount. They make $X per year to be a member of Congress... regardless of how good or bad the economy is doing. They get kickbacks and campaign donations which supplements their income from PACs and businesses and lobbyists.

    Only for the length of the contract if there was one. They can't make you pay if they aren't providing a service and there is no contract.

    I'm not sure what is common in France (or Europe in general) but in the US you typically have to do a 1 or 2 year agreement at the beginning, once you have done that you're on a month to month contract and can cancel at any time.

    ISPs will enjoy their sales dropping by 30% after a year due to this law and people getting their internet disconnected. Not only that, they have to provide the information that will result in the lost sales.

    I use to hunt and know quite a few people who still hunt. Just because you hear stories of some hunters who are careless doesn't mean everyone is like that. Remember, you only hear about the bad things that happen in the news.

    While I still believe we should all be able to own a gun if we want... I wouldn't be heartbroken if they made them illegal.

    If you hit a pedestrian, even if it was 100% their fault... the picture of their face plastered against your front windshield will stick with you the rest of your life.

    Quick anicedote... about 14 years ago I had a near miss. Almost picked off a mentally challenged guy who was walking on a country road (55mph) at night, in a light rain, wearing dark clothes. He was going home after walking to a school about 2 miles away to shoot some hoops... he would walk against traffic on the white line with his head down.

    I didn't hit him, but I had to be inches from getting him with my side mirror. I can still see his face as he looked up with a panicked look at the last second. 14 years and it still bothers me when I drive in the same conditions. Who knows what my mental state would be had I actually hit the guy.

    While I'm not endorsing what this politician wants to do... I do understand there's a need to do something..

    I ride with a cheap pair of clip on over the ear headphones and turn the volume up just loud enough to hear the music. The headphones are so cheap they don't drown out any outside noises. It's the same feeling as having a small radio attached to my bike... the music becomes part of the overall sound but does not dominate it.

    When I would play a fps or rts game with other people, I would always pick the "bad guy." The reason I would do that is because I am below average skill wise and when I would lose, it would make me feel just a little better knowing the good guys won... haha
