I enjoyed watching the movie and would watch it again in a theatre with 3D... but I also think the story was a bit lame. Apparently everyone, except the scientists with Avatars, is blood thirsty and 100% willing to commit genocide. That portion was way too over the top for my liking.

As for the graphics, I really couldn't distinguish between "real" and cgi, the transitions and blending were wonderful.

I was glad I got to see it in the theatre, and I'm not a mainstream movie kind of guy... maybe I go see 1 movie a year.

I think that it would probably help the majority of decent, competent cops to do their jobs if the bad ones (and their superiors) were fired and punished when they pulled this sort of crap, but whenever anybody calls for bad cops to be held accountable, police unions raise a stink.

I agree and I think more and more bad cops are being fired (I see an area story about once a month about a local cop losing their job). One issue I see is that no one comes out and tries to protect the good cops that do their job well. Police unions raise a stink because #1 they get paid to protect their members and #2 the cops have to feel like someone has their back because it's normally a thankless job. Would you do a job where most people despise you just because of the job title you hold? How about where one tiny mistake would have people calling for your head?

Being a police officer isn't (normally) a high paying job. You aren't going to attract the best people all the time when they could make more money (with less stress and probably better hours) somewhere else.

It's not just Japanese web design, it's all forms of media. I have been exposed to powerpoint presentations created by our mother company in Japan (I'm in the US), the slides are cluttered and colorful... Last summer I got to spend 2 weeks in Japan and it helped me understand why their presentations are the way they are, it's exactly like their TV. Even the basic news is cluttered with graphics. Sometimes I had a difficult time distinguishing between the actual tv show and a commercial (I only speak a few words of Japanese). It's not surprising to me their web pages are built in the same manner.

In high school some friends and I would typically make a movie each summer. One summer we were making a fake Japanese terrorist movie where we would just randomly move our lips then come in later and dub in the script in English. In one scene we wanted to blow up a gov't building, so we took a 3D puzzle of the capital building and put a foil + liquid plumber mixture in a glass bottle and put the puzzle on top of it (not one of our brighest ideas). We hoped the pressure would shatter the puzzle from the inside out.. and yes, we were purposely doing cheesy effects.

All we got was a lot of smoke, but it was probably for the better since glass shards flying around would not have been good.

After that failure we decided to use one of the SimCity games and built a town up, then had the main villian menacingly click the 'demolish' button.

We also strapped bottle rockets to GI Joe toys and launched them in the middle of the neighborhood. Also had the cops show up twice while making movies to check out our fake guns, but they never did anything other than look at the gun to make sure it wasn't real.

Sadly this was the mid 90s... so much has changed in 15 years.
