Of course, to be pedantic, thats not strictly true either, I don't know the number but there is actually a milage number that goes with that 24 hours that they'll stop at if its done before then so technically its possible for it to mean less time, but in general the time involved is constant regardless of speed.

Render a full page of text, scrolling (without doing proper backing stores so you actually have to re-render everything for each movement, yes, there are apps that do this!) Then you'll understand that even though most people think its about battery life (and it is for the most part) every tiny bit of latency you can get out of the rendering pipeline is important to how the system 'feels'.

Its far more profitable to get money up front, then get some more for DLC so the game actually feels complete. You certainly don't give out the source, someone else could make a better version and give it away for free until it becomes more popular and then start charging. I doubt I would be alone in that line of thought.

  16. Apple troll here ... no, I want Steam for Linux because maybe it means they'll fix the retarded god damn case sensitivity issues that it has. You can't use steam on a case sensitive file system, which by default, Macs are insensitive from the store, but those of us techies who do real unix work reformat as case sensitive for obvious reasons. So to use Steam, I have to create a disk image with a case insensitive filesystem, then create a fuckton of symlinks in all lower case to get it to work.

All this because apparently some stupid fuck instead of Valve though that you should lowercase paths for some reason, but only in certain places! In some places you just leave it like it was!

That said, I appreciate all cross platform apps more than single platform apps when the option exists, in my experience as a developer, running your code on multiple OSes or architectures tends to expose bugs you never would have seen otherwise. Just stupid little API inconsistencies and such.

Seriously, why do you guys keep thinking that anarchy is going to suddenly rule the world because of better communications? The fact that you even posit the idea shows you aren't qualified to be talking about it.

All this is about is anarchy, not democracy. You think it'll stop wars because people don't like senseless violence? What about the guys that DO LIKE WARS? What about the soldiers that sign up so they CAN LEGALLY KILL PEOPLE? Do you really not think this happens?

Why do these idiotic stories promoting the mob mentality make it to slashdot? Are you guys too stupid to read the site you're posting to? There isn't a single story posted where there is a common consensus that everyone agrees on, and this shit is really irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, and you think some random group of people are going to be different?

Let me give you a hint, if this were to happen, you would be someones bitch because the smarter more dominate people will STILL end up in control of the mob as MOST people NEED to be lead and don't want to think about hard problems for themselves, which is why democracy fails all the time anyway and the closest functional (debatable) variant is a representitive republic. You can not show me one example of a functional democracy, but I can show you plenty of failed ones even with all the modern communications and software we have ... just look at california where everyone votes themselves new services, extra city/state provided benefits AND at the same time ... tax breaks. Utter failure.

If you think this is like Audio IRC and that thats a good thing than I say you've never used IRC in the way you're suggesting. You might have used some network with nick/chan serve and such, but theres no way you'd think this was a good idea had you spent any time on EFnet in the late 90s before all the crap they did to combat takeovers. Considering that chan/nick serves make it not a democracy (a select few people decide how they work, not you) you have to be pretty ignorant to think it'd be even identical anyway.

ANARCHY IS NOT A VALID WAY OF LOOKING AT GOVERNMENTS NO MATTER HOW GREAT YOU THINK IT IS. EVERYONE WILL NOT JUST GET ALONG. WE ARE NOT CLONES, SOME OF US ARE BETTER AT SOME THINGS THAN OTHERS. You for instance, and anyone thinking this is a good idea, would make absolutely shitty leaders, planners, or executive officers at a company. Its hard to argue that you're good for much anything if you can understand how anarchy fails, but I'm sure you have some redeeming quality that could be used.
