How can you expect any linux distro to suddendly be an actually appealing alternative to Windows (XP especially)?
XP has:
1) Money
2) Software Publishers
3) More Money
4) Employees that make sure UI is consistent and 'pretty'
5) Even More Money for Marketing
Honestly, Windows and Linux not the same product, it's not really an issue of Kellogs versus the cheap stuff.
The main hurdle in buying a new pc is the hardware cost anyways, OEM windows isn't as expensive (lindows isn't much less) and is much more appealing than 'confusing linuxdows thing', or that 'cat in the red hat thing'.
Unless (a) someone has some older computer just lying around with no legal licence and (b) they aren't the type to just pirate a copy of xp from thier friends are true, linux doesn't make too much sense for Joe E. Desktop.User.
But Flavio makes me see things differently: Bamboo is a resource of immense potential. And it is strong too. What makes it possible to build bicycles from it is that it is stronger than steel when strained in the longitudinal direction, 17% to be exact.
First of all, who is this Flavio and why does he know so much about Bamboo?
Secondly, how can I get my floors tiled with it. It's stronger than steel! How can you go wrong!?
Plus it would look waaay cool, and most likely smell good. At least I hope so. If it smelled good, and if only I knew for sure...
If Openoffice.org Impress crashes randomly or in excruciatingly improductive rates, do not panic.
This behavior was only implimented after focus testing revealed that common users did not understand why they did not 'get a free coffee break' because 'the program decided to leave'.
I guess part of this concept is actually pretty good, opening up the pc game market (and those fancy little boxes they have now) to people who have no concept of most computer stuff. I mean, it is way fun to play Hot Persuit 2 via my tv out...
This is, of course, until things go wrong for Discover users
The only way to keep that magic box appeal would be to court developers to make sure to QA on one of thier machines.
Otherwise, when ati decides to release 'el crasho driver that makes 3dmark go as fast as exploding cow burps' you'll have a lot of confused blue-screen of death tv's to deal with.
Maybe some kind've uber 'network with the bios' thing could let DISCover be fixed for some ridiculous fee remotely. It is a 'closed system' after all.
It may have not come with a fancy heavy heat sink, but it sure heated up to the point of automatic self-destruction pretty well without much prompting from myself. Needless to say, it was pretty dissapointing.
When I got the replacement in the mail I had to cool it with a smaller house fan until I went out and purchased a pci fan and placed it RIGHT NEXT to it.
So, no wonder they're pushing these big cooling rigs.......
I'm going by what I've seen on IGN Cube [Ign Cube] see subsequent Media Page [Ign cube]
And No, no one actually asked that question. It's just something that's been burning on me reguarding the remake.
Some of it might be due to the apparent higher gamma in the gc version, but it's more of an issue with the actual texture and modelists style, rather than the pixelation, jaggies and resolution.
If I'm going to play mgs (I haven't as of yet)I'd rather play it with the original 'actors' and 'sets' then settle for something sufficiently updated and flashy but with some of the artists/producer's meaning and intent muted or perverted.
So yeah, I should probably stop whining and just go buy the pc port of MGS and be a willfull abstainer from the gamecube version. But I really hope that the GC version is really good, so I don't have to do that.

I think I've got this one figured out. He's just running down the gamut. After the market is thoroughly wrung out he'll get into...something else equally quaint.
I don't know, I guess you have to have some respect for the fact that he's trying.
The market for wrestling, and Max Payne are on entirely different levels.
If anyone is intelligent enough to appreciate Max Payne, they're intelligent enough to appreciate that someone who happens to be a pro wrestler and who appears nothing like the game character has nothing to to do with any of it.
However It's difficult to say if this wrestler is genuinely concerned about his wrestling IP, or just the size of his tv-wrestling wallet.
You can decide for yourselves, but something tells me it's the latter.
that keeping details of a game under wraps is really any way to keep a game from hitting the shelves 'unbanned'.
The ESRB has to pay attention to something, that is unless they slip them a new pre-rendered sesame street pilot instead of thier game content.
Big Bird: Manhunt
Don't ask me why.
This is definetely a good sign for the future of canned video games. Props to ID and Splash Damage for possibly starting the beggining of the free unshippableware revolution.
And I mean that in a good way. If things keep up like this we may actually be able to play Duke Nukem Forever in some form!
I am the Star of Slashdot!
Woo! Look at me dance!
The Slasdot Dance!
Yayayayayayya!
*ahem*
Kroupware is a great concept, but I really doubt it will catch on in business use. However it would make sense for personal use.
I'm glad there's a solution, but this won't be viable until some big 'Sun' takes it and makes it all spiffy and technically supported.
But it's out there, so that's good.
I really do like beef.
Also, Bill Gates is a genius. He not only begins to admit that Windows9x is a hog, but he then boasts and mocks us, telling us that we will now pay him even more money for this stuff.
He is a genius, and a tyrant, for sure.
And I am a youth.
TV has some good stuff, but now that I don't get TechTV (or any premium cable channels) anymore I just can't really justify a good five hour span.
That and they just switched my UPN from Mineapolis to La Crosse, WI. YECH!! I go from a that 70's show/simpsons/t7s sandwich to Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the crazy 1996 run of Cosby.
So, yeah.
It would seem a given that Id would stick with an ATI card for the lan.
Maybe NVIDIA will try to take back some glory though, but something tells me that ATI isn't going to let it go easy, plus carmack has detailed how the radeon is better, I think, in some ways.

It's almost like I'm polish, and saying something incomprehensible because slashdot is so crazy.
He was even on TechTV once.
It was great.
That he was on TechTV once.
Wozniak is a great and interesting person.
Woz
Woz
Wooooah Woz!

Get with the times. It's all about identifying the key words in the subject and coming up with a euphamism in 30 seconds or less. KarmA!!!!!

Time passes
Oh no! We have to write the entire shader and physics engines BY OURSELVES!!
Hehe
Today
Yup
Uhuh
Yet it's not to hard to find bad stories about them elsewhere.
Oh well.

*sigh*, maybe I'm just a troll.
"Have you completely abandoned the original MGS look and feel as a side effect of graphicalizing Metal Gear: Twin Snakes?"
Just something about that team's character modeling and textures is distant from the feel and tone set by the original game's art.
Oh well.
Oh, whoops, I guess I forgot that I was posting to slashdot.
I'll write a few.... *click* *click* *click*

that tiny thing weighs as much as a full-size camry. Somehow I don't think it would handle jumps too well.
