Max/MSP by Cycling74. It's mostly for creating audio and video applications used in live performance. It was Mac-only for years, but they just released a Windows version. Not sure if everything works cross-platform or not.
Ah yes, they "knew the risk and accepted it"--good to see you have a solid grasp of class issues. More like: really needed the money and joined before Sept. 11th with the pretty justifiable assumption that the US wouldn't be going to war any time soon.
Well, actually, this is just simply a triumph of capitalism.
I mean if our businesspersons need some reason to want to make 10 kagillion dollars a week. If it's the search for some sort of adolescent fantasy in space or simply just stamping their face on the moon then so be it.
A dirty bomb is not much more destructive than a regular bomb. Fear and paranoia are the main effects of a dirty bomb, perpetuated by word of mouth and the "media." Educating yourself about dirty bombs is your greatest protection against them unless you're unlucky enough to be killed by the blast itself.
As for the "nuclear" threat, it is certainly possible, but these threats are mostly propaganda to keep you afraid and paranoid so you don't notice when PATRIOT III is passed through Congress.
Who cares whether you get excited about it? I'm not trolling here, I'm just pointing out that there are lots of people who get excited about using Opera for various reasons. Maybe it's all the accessibility options for persons with disabilities. Maybe they just like certain features you can't find in any other browser (like being able to move tabs around).
Look, I'm not an Opera fanboy. I was excited about the new release, tried it for awhile, and went back to Safari. Neither of these browsers are perfect, and Opera has a load of problems but my point here is that you unfairly and focus on the negative aspects. This is not constructive.
Maybe you should take a glance at the features list before you completely write it off.
Not to mention you can customize the interface to look pretty much however you want.
why should we realistically expect an end to famine, disease, war? They've been with us throughout history. Man has always wished to eliminate these woes -- yes they keep getting worse and worse.
This is an idiotic, self-perpetuating argument. Just because something is, and has been for a long time, does not mean it is an unchangeable truth.
In this particular instance, consider this: the world is rapidly changing and is not the same as, say, during the Roman Empire, yet there is a lot of residual ideologies and beliefs left over from those times. They are not set in stone, however...do not mistake them for "human nature." There have been a lot of improvements to the world that should not be overlooked (civil rights movement, etc).
Ugh, I might be trolling the obvious here, but this sounds utterly useless to me. Personally, I arrange all my desktops by theme so I know where everything is. The only time I ever use the pager is if a window is lost, and the tiny icon windows are fine for the job.
And also there's a key difference between Microsoft's patent and Expose. With Expose you don't have to arrange all your windows in different desktops to make use of the scaling functionality, it just scales the windows currently visible.
Personally, I use virtual desktops and Expose simultaneously...they really compliment each other.
However, note that this combination is the opposite of Microsoft's implementation.
I think the goal is that enough/. mockery will result in the old "Rob...you'll never work in this town again" routine. Hey, maybe those +5 mods do make a difference.
Wireless USB comes from the same group that spec'ed out USB 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0, and that managed to out-sell the arguably-superior firewire spec.
I know you're not implying that Firewire is therefore useless and doomed to extinction, but just to clarify:
USB 2.0 and Firewire both have their pros and cons and different uses. USB 2.0 is more prominent because it's cheaper and more of a "consumer" protocol because it puts more work on the system's processor (instead of the controller) and doesn't sustain its data rate as well as Firewire. So yeah, more devices have USB 2.0 because most people don't care if their USB 2.0 scanner is 15% slower on a 600dpi scan.
However, video editors and more "pro" types will pay a premium for Firewire because of its higher sustained data rate. It also has devices that *gasp* support daisy-chaining which is really useful. Not to mention Firewire 800 which is hella faster than USB 2.0.
So, yeah, USB 2.0 definitely has out-sold Firewire, but that doesn't mean Firewire is going away. Just like IDE drives have outsold SCSI, but you don't see that going anywhere, do you?
Anyway, sorta OT, but the examples apply to the BT/WUSB debate. Since I don't know the specs of WUSB I can't compare them, but I'm sure one will have a power/performance/distance trade off somewhere which will make each protocol have their uses.
Now if only someone will make a Bluetooth CDMA phone so I can switch to Sprint because my overpriced cell provider was just bought by the evil Cingular overlords.
Mark/Space's Missing Sync for PocketPC syncs iPhoto pictures and iTunes music, so I imagine that their Cobalt implementation will have similar features.
Screw that, man, ethernet cables within a building have the added benefit of being secure (plus it's fun to rip your apartment up running cable).
But I'd love to ditch my cell provider and go with a VoIP solution via WiMax. Of course, coverage would be an issue for a long time to come, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about minutes.
I agree. My dad just had Neural Feedback about a year ago and seemed to do well from it--he claims that it helped him tremendously. He also just left my mom unexpectedly after 36 years of marriage.
But how does my story help you? Slashdot might give you some interesting stories and perspectives, but in terms of searching out some kind of Truth, I don't think it's here.
I have ADD and I would consider getting it, but I'm wary because unlike my father I have my whole life ahead of me (I'm 23). He had lived his life and knew he didn't want to live with ADD anymore, so he got it. Me, I'm not so sure if I'd rather just create ways of compensating that work for me.
I'll start by reading Slashdot less and resisting the evil temptation of "You have 5 Moderator Points! Use 'em or lose 'em!" Shit there goes an hour of reading about the state of racism at -1.
Sounds like you need OS X and LaunchBar. I used to do what you do with Windows, but you'll probably point out that there's a trade-off. Your method is labor intensive, but you know exactly what's-what, LaunchBar's method is non-labor intensive and makes it easy for different text patterns open the same item, but it requires an annoying disk-crunching search at login. So there's pros and cons. Oh, and your method uses no RAM...besides a tiny symmlink in memory.
Cause you can't download a video card off P2P. We're working on getting an alpha of this up in running by next quarter. The Car plugin should be available sometime in '05.
it's almost impossible to assign specific file types to Window's Media Player, QuickTime, RealPlayer, Winamp, etc., without all of these applications trying to steal the right to handle these file types out from one another. Now the same thing is going to happen, but with DRM in the mix?
Yeah except the beauty of iTunes is that you rarely want or need to muck around with your actual music files because iTunes organizes them for you. That one of the best parts about it. Now I know, I know I'll get two responses from two different types of people.
1) From the people that have never used iTunes: "But that shit never works, man, I always end up having to muck around with the files anyway. I don't want the computer trying to guess what I want."
Until I tried iTunes, I would have agreed with you, but I count every day as a blessing when I don't have to go around naming directories and files and crap. iTunes just works.
2) From people who use iTunes and have to muck around with their files: "But I want all my music on 50 different partition with different NFS and P2P sharing folders...fuck iTunes, it's not powerful and extensible enough for me."
Yeah, you are a psycho power user. iTunes can accommodate your needs, but doesn't really handle that right out of the box because most people will never need that kind of functionality. But I bet there's some Applescripts floating around that will help you out.
Mellel is a word processor for OS X that is made by and Israeli company which supports right-to-left languages including Hebrew. It's very well designed and attractive (aside from the logo) but it's a proprietary format and the RTF export is lacking. I'm sure these will be improved in future updates. Oh, it's $25.
Yep, it's been done, and well.

Then there's the open-source version, JMax
"OMG, there's *RADIOACTIVE STUFF* in the universe!"
Clearly the words of a Slashdotter with authority in the UN.
I would not have assumed that the parent was speaking exclusively about the United States.
Yes, he/she referenced Columbia, but in the context of the whole post I would say that he/she was talking about "we" as in the human race.
Not to mention the weird formatting makes me think he/she is using a non-US keyboard.
Ah yes, they "knew the risk and accepted it"--good to see you have a solid grasp of class issues. More like: really needed the money and joined before Sept. 11th with the pretty justifiable assumption that the US wouldn't be going to war any time soon.
Or something
But since you, obviously, are wealthy enough to have avoided military service, I guess you can't ask them how they feel about being in Iraq.
Besides, every American knows that Jimmy Carter was the worst President ever.
But, do you every wonder why people think that (11th paragraph).
Yeah, it's OT but the parent was modded up, so what the hell.
It's KDE terrorists, thank you.

There are some people who are interested in actualizing change in the world. Some have even written down their thoughts about it.
I think I smell a new Microsoft ad:
New Windows XP Reloaded. Now, only needs to be hosed and reinstalled from DVD every two weeks.
Microsoft: Which BSD distro do you rely on today?

I really think I am going to regret bringing this up on Slashdot, as it is inevitably going to be misinterpreted.
But... victims of sexual abuse sometimes sometimes end up having sexual fantasies about that abuse.
I recommend the following three articles by Betty Dodson as she, I think, understands the issue well. WARNING EXPLICIT CONTENT for those who care.

Better yet, they should just overclock it at night. Nothing like a 20MHz PPC overclocked to, uh, 100MHz. Can they solder pins from 600,000 miles away?

And in the event that my home catches fire, I can grab an external drive on the way out the door. Try that with a 100lb server.
I guess your kids, at 100lbs total, passed out in their bedroom are fucking screwed then, eh?
