All this proves to me is that FF does a better job of sharing resources across instances. Does anyone use windows rather than tabs to manage their browsing?

When I can code once ((x)html/javascript-ecma if you like/CSS2) and get exactly the same result in IE 7, FF 2/3, Opera, and Safari then if might be time to talk about adding and changing things.

If IE, FF, Opera, and Safari all produced the same exact rendering result, then why would we have more than one browser? To see who can implement the new standards fastest? I'm not sure what will come in the future, but HTML as we know it will always have to be supported by browsers. Maybe all the crazy people moving to flash really know what they are doing?

    Now what?

As for GUI development, I believe that we will see some progress made there. Right now, there is some good competition going on between Swing, SWT, and other toolkits. And now, QT just came out with QT Jambi which looks really cool. The bottom line is that eventually, one of these toolkits will emerge and become the defacto toolkit. Remember, cross platform UI is a hard problem to solve. They'll figure it our eventually. Or, you may get tired enough and write one yourself :)

Dude, you are absolutely right! I recently needed to replace the rear pads and rotors on my 2002 Intrepid and priced a few different repair shops. I was overwhelmed. Well over $200 for the cheapest estimate. I decided to use the internet and research the cost of the parts. It turns out that I could get 2 new rotors and a set of pads for my car for about $60 or less. So what did I do?

I went and bought a Haynes repair manual for my car and read through the brakes section. The next day, I went to O'Reilly's and bought the parts, got some friendly advice from the guy working there and went home. In less than 2 hours, my car had shiny brand new rear rotors and pads. It was literally removing the wheel and 2 bolts on each side. And, since I wasn't replacing the calipers, I never disturbed the brake hydraulics. I knew I could put my programmer mind to good use in real life :)

Why does TV over IP have to come from the Internet provider? I'm really getting annoyed by all of this bundling of services. Here's what I'd like... a good, fast internet connection. Period. Let me worry about what I'm getting over that connection. Phone/TV/Music/Email. For once I'd love to see a company boast: We give you a rock solid, fast connection to the Internet and that's it. Enjoy.

I currently have Comcast (previously Adelphia). Back in the Adelphia days I had the internet only package. Life was good. Since the buyout, I have Comcast Internet plus a $15.00 you forgot to sign up for cable tv fee. I also have Vonage and use iTunes to purchase shows of interest. I'd love to subscribe to a few IPTV channels from say... the networks that air them. Does that make any sense? Or, is this the kind of thing that actually requires dedicated telco hardware to implement?
