I worked for a social services company's IT department. They are a pro-MS shop also. They are only allowing users to run IE6 because the state apps required by employees rely on IE6. Will not work in IE7.
I hear you loud and clear man... You gotta sit through 5 car commercials, 1 caveman Gieco car commercial, 3 ridiculously old theater safety commercials (They tell you about exit signs located in the front and rear of the theater. Thing is there are exits only at the front and none exist in the back.), then finally you get to sit and watch 10+ mins of coming attractions before getting to the movie.
Or maybe people just pirate it because they do not know of any free alternatives like GIMP. Not everyone seeks for free open source alternatives. I use Gimp for most of my image editing. For me its a great tool. Sometimes I use kolourpaint.
I agree with you... I only use Windows to play games that do not run in Wine/Cedega well or at all or to work on a gaming mod/map. The rest of my every day use I use Ubuntu Linux Feisty Fawn. I have grown to love Debian and Ubuntu. Used to use Gentoo and Mandrake but Gentoo takes to much of my time and Mandrake sucks. Yes I know Mandrake is Mandriva now and I do not care to use it or try it as Mandrake left a bad taste in my mouth.
I use firefox2.0.0.7 every day in Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn (also in Windows when I game) and have it running with 5 or more tabs at all times i'm using the computer. I also have it set so when I start firefox up all my previous tabs open up. Sometimes I get a browser crash.
However... when I used Firefox1x I noticed everything was snappier. With firefox 2x I felt my browsing experience was getting sluggish with the new Firefox series. I am all for a more efficient browsing experience. A faster browsing experience is very important for users just trying out the browser.
Thats just my 2 cents... I know my grammer sucks and this will never get modded insightful....:-(
I prefer text smilies over graphical smilies also.:-D
Gchat animates text smilies which is kind of neat. If you hover over them with your mouse they reanimate. Its fun to make a bunch of them and the send them in GChat and hover over them and you see lots of animated smiles.
I'm real glad I installed Adblock Plus extension in Firefox because I have not seen that stupid smilie AD. Some of them make noises like crying or laughing.

When parking at school I decided I would park in a different parking spot. Critics call this a shocking thriller of the century. They give this news two thumbs way up! One reviewer said "Looks like the famous kc2keo is breaking out of his mold!".
I dunno about everyone else but I prefer to install Linux by booting the LiveCD/net install/whatever. Then I can dual boot with the grub boot loader. I would avoid the win32-loader like a plague and advise the Linux newcommer to avoid using that method to install Linux. Not only would it make that person hate me it will destroy their data. I can be mean but I'm not that mean. Also I may be dead wrong but I thought there was already a win32-loader in existence.

Well, dunno why I'm even responding because I have not played nor do I own the game but...I can say that the game was advertised on TeleVision A LOT! It rivaled the amount of times the Gieco caveman is advertised. God that caveman is annoying! How can they actually make a TV series of him?!
with this type of censorship because then it will be easier for them to censor anything else that they would like to censor. Also, how effective can this be? Aren't there unintended consequences when you put these filters up?
What if somebody needs to learn about terrorism for a paper or something like that.
Also... if any terrorist really wanted to make a bomb there are plenty of other ways to learn how to create one. I think this is just another attempt to have government closer to total control of the Internet. Maybe we will eventually see taxes on it in other ways. Maybe I'm going to far?
I wonder what would happen of worm for Vista was distrobuted with a Virus that would patch the Vista computer to make it !validate with M$'s OS checker which would make the infected computer marked pirated.
Is that even possible? I'm no expert but I think that would be possible. If I was a Vista/M$ user I would be pretty nervous about this anti-piracy move by M$. However, since I use Ubuntu I'm safe.
I do not look like the guy in that picture at all.

Going a bit offtopic...
How does the web page design look? Still a work in progress. Wanna get opinions from other people.
First of all I do not create feature rich documents. Most of the documents write are in plain old text.
I use Ubuntu with OO.org. When I need to send a resume to a would be employer I _ALWAYS_ send it in MS Office formatting because its very likely they will be using some version of MS Office.
To be more relevant to the article I think its great that IBM is joining the OO.org team. There may be some sort of conspiracy or something going on for them to join but I personally do not see anything of that sort. I do believe that having a open-standard document (ODF) is good for everyone in the long run so that no single vendor can just change things in their closed format with the drop of a coin which breaks everything in the older format. I bet it gets real complicated for governments trying to keep track of digital documents.

Yeah, I was trying top be funny. But I do not think many people thought it was funny.
Anyway, I live in Dobbs Ferry New York. That is not to far from the city. You can have to look real hard to see a star in the sky at night because of all the street lights like you guys mentioned. Its pretty sad.
When I was going to grade school I lived in Patterson NY then Carmel NY which is 40 miles away from Dobbs Ferry. Street lights are not common on the side of the streets and driving at night is usually lit up by only your head lights (if the road is empty). The stars there are much more visible. But when I was growing up there was less population in Carmel/Patterson. I noticed now that the stars are less visible. I do not really know how to measure the darkness rating in the sky and right now have no time to look up how to do just that.
Aaaaaarrrrrrrghhhhhh!!!!

How about some clicky buttons!
I hear you... I get discriminated a lot by the pretty girl popular crowd culture. Maybe its because I wear clothing that says
:)
"I'd rather be compiling" (T-Shirt and bumper sticker)
"emerge system" (T-Shirt, hat, and bumper sticker)
"/. hat"
hehe... When I used Gentoo and compiled OpenOffice it took foreeeeevvvvvver
Funny thing is I thought of Leena from futurama when I did that one. I was going to do more smilies but chose to use the continuation dots "..." :-P

never tried out Office 2007. OO works for what I need it to do though.
I read that in some other article about black screens saving more energy.
