    Some day they'll figure out a way to make processors survive 310+ farenheit, then we'll have real toasting machines.

    My local cable (Cox) offers a DVR with computer hook ups so you can move from the DVR to the computer if you want to keep something. And the DVR isn't crippled like the TiVo, i.e. I can still fast forward through the comercials. The only problem is the DVR/Digital cable box is a $4.95 a month rental. Although I bet a lot of people are also paying that much or more for digitial cable box and Tivo.

    My local cable company has basically said "Heres what you want, we won't ask what you use it for" so none of this commercial forcing, and they haven't questioned my 200GB+ per month downloads

    Since the auctioneer is eBay, and they operate from the state of California, this would only affect people operating as an auctioneer IN Ohio.

    If Ohio tries to apply this they'll be interfering in interstate commerce, which is Federal Law, not state. Quite a simple court case.

    Okay, I do a bit of metalurgical crystalline micrography, and we keep the images in the raw bitmap format because we can't let ANY data be lost. But we also have gobs of drive space, so a good lossless, non-distorting compression format would be handy.

    I'm thinking that for cameras a high performance compression processor for this new algorithm might be the solution to the Camera issue. But the issue on PC's is more the processor time, not space.

    Anyone know if the compression on a chip for the camera is a feasable idea, or am I just not awake yet.

    "The Day After Tommorow" was a movie where I enjoyed the ability to fast forward through the dialoge.
    Disaster films are fun, but they have to stretch them out with dumb actors yapping. How much dialoge are they going to cram into the disaster movie about the Tsunami

    Don't say they won't make that movie, thousands script writers are probably working on it write now, pitching it as featuring DiCaprio and J-Lo, with a love scene featuring a crashing wave montage.

    I have expanded basic cable and a cable modem, enough of a distraction. Digital cable and a HDTV would just hurt my grades. Either CRT or plasma/LCD

    I'm thinking that this is a case where less traffic in the Ham world of frequencies has made it easier to get more distance. It's easier to hear someone in a empty room than one full of yapping people.

    Anyone got any numbers on how crowded the frequency spectrum involved is, and how much it's changed.

    Ughh, flashback to the time I was called out to work on a computer and it was Win 98-Hebrew edition. I had to work off the icons alone. Fortunatly all the settings I had to tweak were 0-9 numbers and in the same places.

    I'm thinking about the past record of using telephone records and e-mail records have been usefull before. As far as all the encryption, I think the idea is to keep track of the TO: and FROM: lines, as well as maybe the subject lines, so only encrypt as far as your paranoia takes you.
    I think most of this data has been used after the fact, when they have a starting point and want to find out who a person has been communicating with. I don't think this will make anyone safer, but it might be handy after the fact to help string up scape goats.

    I feel sorry for you Brits. That law about having to assist police in accessing encrypted data sucks. Over here we have the 5th ammendment, something most people didn't know about till the OJ Simpson trial.

    I know that the boards of the media companies get group chubbies when ever someone suggest systems where they don't have to produce products, hence the cooperation with iTunes.
    They dream of the day when no one owns physical media, but instead pays a per use fee to listen or view media.

    Also, as long as I can't rent Troma movies at BlockBuster I'm gonna find them on P2P networks. Oh, and if it's not utter garbage I wind up buying them.

    Ah, but if you have a DVD burner you can make a list of the movies you want copied, and go crazy copying. Then you just keep the account until your done with your list, and then maybe once a year you can go buy that one movie thats actually worth paying $16 for.

    When? They're all 24 hour in this area.

    Better bet is to ransack a professionals office and use their printer. Lawyer, architect, or graphic designer. They're less likely to have police roll by, often located in office buildings with thier own security flaws, and that graphic designer is probably already on a FBI/Secret service short list for having skills and printers.

    Your basic modus isn't bad, but your choice of target is poor. Case the joint, figure out what drivers you'll need on your laptop and bring the right cables. Also, don't kill anybody. Assualt gets WAY less attention than murder.

    About $10 per gallon 40% for the first 5 gallons, About $6 per gallon each additional run. The trick is to know what nasties boil at what temperatures, redistilling, then resting the 'shine for a few days with a bit of stone carbon to polish. Not bad.
