We are a representative republic which means that we elect representatives to make decisions on our behalf. A true democracy would have the populous vote on every decision the government makes which is far beyond manageable.
I don't think Utah is doing this because of the word "democrat" or the word "republican" but instead to teach our children a better understanding of how our government is truly configured. Take the partisanship out of it and it's an accurate and important detail.
We have the same policy and will only allow smart phones to connect to exchange when they have the remote wipe capability. It's to protect the company's interests should a phone be lost or stolen. When the users sign up for ActiveSync they have to "read" the terms and conditions where it states that it may be remotely wiped. I don't think most people read it but when you think about the type of proprietary (and often confidential) data your email inbox has, you have to understand why the company does it.
I haven't bought a square game since Final Fantasy X2, so I have contributed to their decline I guess. But did you play it? I have played Final Fantasy games for as long as I can remember and I loved FFX. FFX2 was SO lame! Dance fighting with different outfits? I'm a girl and I don't even think that is fun. Hopefully their newer games are better, I haven't gotten into an RPG in a while (I tend to play them a little too much once I start) so I don't know. But if any of them are like FFX2, then I understand why they aren't making as much money!
Because the Japanese government isn't overbearing and doesn't feel it needs to control every aspect of daily life? I don't know that this is not the case, it just seems like it is to me. Its more like a capitalist environment in this case. If japanese animators can't afford to live, they won't be animators anymore. If the quality goes down the fans will reject new anime and the anime companies will be forced to pay japanese animators more money to use their talent. If they can have Korean animators do it for less and the fans still like it, why should a government step in and tell them they have to pay more just to have it done at home?
This is a virus that can be spread by having sex, just like HIV (although if it works, that could be a good thing). It's also possible that HIV and the therapeutic virus could mutate around each other and recombine to make an altogether new virus.
You can't possibly blame corporations for kids' short attention spans. Its not the corporations or the politicians who support commerce and business as opposed to a large, overbearing government that sit kids in front of a tv while the parents catch up on their work or buy them the pokemon cards when they are at the store instead of learning to just say 'no'. If anyone is to blame, its the parents of these greedy, lazy kids with no attention spans. We are living in a society where if a kid doesn't understand something in school its all the teacher's fault and no responsibility lies on the parents to help their child with their homework after school. Where the television has replaced parenting and where the word 'no' is only said in a household by the 6 year old telling his parents that he doesn't want to do his homework (which his parents will make excuses to the teacher the next day for).
In public schools teachers are encouraged not to fail students who can't perform, it will make them feel bad about themselves. Who cares if a high school senior can't hardly read, let's graduate him just so that the school can maintain its 97% graduation rate. The majority of high school graduates go on to higher education. Do they deserve to? I don't think so but that's a different discussion. These are the people that are our future. I can't say I'm surprised that the US is falling behind in the scientific arena.
I remember my college physics classes and half the class didn't understand basic algebra yet they were going to major in physics. If I were a scientist, I'd go somewhere else to research too.
They've just installed speed cameras like that in Washington, D.C. They said that they made some astronomical amount of money on the tickets they sent out in the first month. They are planning on adding additional cameras soon. Its not even the first time in the US.
We have something similar here. Its not installed in the cars, but you stick it to your windshield and when you go through a toll it automatically deducts the toll from either a pre-paid credit or from your credit card.
I guess you can say that's really big brother, one company throughout a major metropolitan area tracking what roads you drive, when you do it, and how fast you get through the tolls. They may even have cameras up monitoring the cars that go through, I've never noticed. No one here complains about it.
Maybe its just me, but this sounds like a pile of crap. Aside from the fact that its just a ridiculous concept...name something that can be installed that even a skilled "hacker" can't edit, work around, or completely remove.
I have found out about so many bands that I like that I would buy their cds or see them in concert because of mp3 sharing. I never would just go buy a cd of some band I have never heard of; but I can download an mp3 or 2 and discover that I really like the band. I'm glad that there are people studying it from the opposite angle of the RIAA.
Some people also don't think that Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine was the world's first computer.
His analytical engine was the design for the first computer, but it was never created due to lack of funding. Herman Hollerith used the designs of the Analytical Engine and the Difference Engine of Babbages to create his Tabulating Machine (early computing device) for the company that later became International Business Machine (IBM). So, Charles Babbage is known as the father of computer for his designs, but he never had the opportunity to build his computer.
Isn't an operating system a program that allows you to control your devices? This still does that, its just all contained in the ROM. Pretty neat, but still an OS. Surely not as bloated as MS media center. (note: I haven't actually tried media center, I'm just guessing)
That's interesting. I've notice the reverse with mine. Slurp (Yahoo!'s bot) has been coming to my site almost hourly getting different pages for the past 2 weeks or so. I've also noticed a HUGE increase of referrers from search.yahoo.com. Usually all the referrers from search engines were from Google. Now, Yahoo! is much more frequent.
Once yahoo changed over to Inktomi's search, I did several different searches for keywords or terms tha I want to be listed for. Surprisingly, I am ranked much higher on yahoo than Google right now for some things. I haven't changed anything in my code, its just interesting to see how the different search engines interpret the same thing.
There has to be more to this story. From what the article says, the FBI just walked in and shut them down. While that might have happened this story seems to be extremely one sided and a little short on the detail.
Initially, I don't like the sound of it at all given that I host several domains and don't want the FBI coming in and taking all of my servers. But, we don't know what led up to the seizure....maybe it was a legitimate action? We shouldn't judge too harshly until we have all the information. I'm trying to play devil's advocate here.
I work with some people who use their computer every single day. Have had an email address for years, who still buys what they read in an email. Photoshop for $50...sure! Herbal viagra...why not?
Well, she always has a big smile on her face, maybe there's something to this spam thing.
But if I don't like my phone number, I can't just trade it with a friend. I have to contact Verizon and then pay for a different number. If I get a nice person they may offer me my choice of available numbers, but the last time I changed my number it was just the next one on their list. Either way, I have to pay Verizon to do it, I can't just buy a regular number from my friend.
Think about snail mail junk mail. Each day unless its a bill, I have 5 or 6 pieces of junk mail. My parents, get triple that amount. That's a lot of mail going out and the companies that send it all pay postage, and its a lot more than $0.01. And they still do it. That isn't enough to deter spammers, but its enough to seriously interrupt normal business for companies who regularly send out bulk yet legit email.
slurp used to be one of the few crawlers that I saw in my access logs regularly. Lately, I haven't seen it around at all. In months actually. Now I see googlebot every day checking all my links and for updated pages. Just how accurate is Yahoo!'s search if slurp isn't really making the rounds like it used to?
I think it bodes fine with the poeple who just bought top of the line vid cards. They aren't crap yet. They'll still display your games just fine. I think people will continue to use them until they no longer do the job they were purchased for. And then at that point they will go out and buy the new PCIe's. (and most likely a new motherboard, processor, memory...the whole deal) The rest of your system has to be able to keep up with each component inside.
They cloned stem cells, that's quite different than a whole embryo. I'm more for cloning stem cells than using the stems cells from babies aborted. It will benefit science by enabling scientists to be able to do research on stem cells, but it won't affect the abortion discussion.
how long until we just rename it to the "googlenet"?

They are available online only, but their shipping is just $15 so its not too bad of a deal.

If you need to buy a pre-built PC, here's a good one at Wal-Mart . I hope that link works, its kind of long.
Anyway, I just got one for work, I work for a small company and it is happily running FreeBSD. I haven't really had any problems with it.
