The discharge like pattern is called "arborescent" burn. The theory is is that it is a result of a flashover from a nearby conductor or an entrance wound from the positively charged lightning. See for example Forensic pathology by DiMaio.
Typically, the high resistance of the skin prevents the lighting from entering the body, but any metal object including jewlery will disrupt the flow. Mobile phones are just an example of such an object. There is a more detailed discussion of injury mechanism in Int Paediatr 2000;15(3) as referenced by the British MJ article.
I have Motorola SLVR L7 with iTunes and that thing has only 7 discreet sound levels: mute, very loud, obnoxiously loud, and then four settings for varying degrees of hearing damage. Very loud=2/3 the maximum loudness of Ipod Nano. I wish they would also issue a patch.
The rotation of the tail would need to be approx. 4000rpm to give the cat enough angular velocity to rotate while it is falling down about 1/3 meter (minimum height for the cat to turn around).
Ahm, first, friction acts approximately equally on the surface of the cat and there is no net torque. Second, air friction cannot provide nearly enough force, especially if the cat falls about a meter down (friction is proportional to velocity). It is not that simple.
1) No object can violate conservation of angular momentum. 2) To rotate an object one needs to give it angular velocity, hence angular momentum. 3) To have finite angular momentum, an object needs torque applied to it (or a force applied away from the center of moment). 4) Gravity acts on the center of moment and does not result in torque on any free falling object. 5) Cats dropped feet up manage to land on their feet. 6) Does this mean cats violate conservation of angular momentum; no wonder Egyptians worshiped them. What is wrong with this discussion; no math involved from my Classical dynamics class.
When I look at this ads, this is the only thing that I can think of: they used IE and got spyware/adware installed by accident that is popping up really weird porn ads.
I read a lot of literature from 18th century. It is one of the meanings of uninterested (and actually I meant both meanings), although not comonly used anymore, see www.m-w.com
Surely, the University of Texas wanting to take control of Los Alamos has nothing to do with it, wink. And of cause, the ex-governor of Texas was a completely uninterested party.
"Should the contract go to bid, the University of Texas might have an edge because it is in President George W. Bush's home state, said Pete Stockton, a senior investigator with the watchdog organization Project on Government Oversight in Washington, D.C., a loud critic of UC. And Bush doesn't have close ties with California, which he lost in the 2000 election."
First, while it is possible that there are differences between sexes, are the differences larger or smaller than the differences between individuals in each group? Statistically significant doesn't mean significantly larger.
Second, are the differences detrimental to the scientific process? It is possible women think differently, but it doesn't mean necessarily worse. In my undergraduate studies, there was a female student who could see symmetry in crystals looking at it from any directions, none of the other students and the TAs could do that.
Process required to do science is very far removed from the goal, relying on superstitions and intuition. Right now, the process is (historically) biased toward males. But there is no evidence that this is the best way to go.
Constitution gives us the people to elect the president. Kerry, like Gore, have no right to concede. Ohio is still too close to call, and by conceding, Kerry takes away their right to have votes counted. The difference between the results (even before correcting for Dieboldt errors) is less than number of provisional ballots.
If one looks at the graph and interprets min max times as error margins, then there is no difference from a year ago. We are supposed to be more rigorous than the average poll watching Joe. Show the distribution and give us a hypothesis test, with p of at least.1. How many computers were involved in testing? How about commenting on the sampling bias?
I've lived in Baltimore for many years and it is obvious that the government. will use any excuse to cover up the extereme corruption. When I was there, a superintendent gave a building contract to his uncle who wasted $100,000 and then $100,000 was spent fixing the errors.
As an aside: If you are gov't employee, it is your responsibility to use email for official business only. All communication should also use proper English (these are not posts to Slashdot) and all the emails and memos should be self-containing (and not include 100k messages of pretty formated reminders of lunches). I don't work in the gov't, but I still follow these rules. This cuts down on most junk.
Removing battery doesn't always work. I was disassembling an Epic stylus infinity camera and did remove the battery. There was a capacitor in there though and I got quite a shock.
He did such a great service to the world by convincing everyone about the truth of the new internet economy. How else would you explain a multibillion dollar company is using a drug addicted (speach challenged) hippy to promote products to university/goverment/fortune 500 executives?

Computer hardware: the only thing depreciating faster than the US dollar.
Chess, eight years ago.
Yet again, the Slashdot editors have allowed a mispelled story to be posted. It should be had.

There are a few questions to ask.

It is called photoshop.
That it no only recognizes spam but also Slashdot visitors.

I don't type my passwords. I use voice recognition software and just say them. No clicks to overhear baby!!!
Doh
Nominate the Dell dude guy.

I think you need TWO speakers for that. Yes, a RAID streo system is in order.
My "stereo system", computer with two harddrives is the best source of white noise around. Unfortunately, my power supply is louder.
And then they will charge users extra for "adv free" service. Oh wait, I thought they were talking about phone companies.
