Hey NS, Apple doesn't care what you think. If the company calls it a personal computer than it's a personal computer.

If Apple wants to make machine that has "lots of gigahertz" but with the premium trim, I welcome it, but it's the morons who spend $3000 on a machine that they didn't want at fault, not apple, stop whining because you want Apple hardware but don't want to pay for their looks. If you hate Apple's product that much guess what you can do? Not buy it.

I was referring to that possibility too, it's a waste of pixels. Why would I want all that white space to the right of File, Edit, and View because Whatever has to extend the size of the bar. If you're planning on having floating text without framing it in a menu bar, things are going to start looking way too cluttered.

Vertical menu bars? I think I'd rather have as little of my screen possible dedicated to menus, unless you're from an asian country where the written language is read from top to bottom, right to left or plan on replacing every menu text with an icon, vertical menu bars are a stupid idea. Reading english like this:

is bad UI design, as is turning the text on it's side. You want to make thing easier for users, not harder.

I don't know... hard coded laws of any kind can backfire. What we really should try to enforce with robots is getting them to understand (if possible) why those laws exist in case they need to be broken. For example, I'd like my robot to knock out another human being if they're trying to harm my child and I wouldn't want it to follow the orders of someone who intends to harm the child.

Programming a bunch of hard coded if statements is bad when there's a better way in any kind of programming, I'd rather the robot have data on society and make good decisions based on that.

Just make sure the robot can at least be restrained/stopped in the same way as humans in case something does go wrong. A gunshot to the CPU by the police might be necessary.

As a mac user I have found a lot of Windows users are snobs when they find out you use a mac, they come off just like you, assholes who don't know what they're talking about.

There's nothing wrong with someone being excited about their new machine, I see PC users bragging about how nicely certain games run.

Apple's ads pompous? Dude, they're just trying to target people who don't know much about computers. Think about it, what else does Apple have to advertise? Ghz? (which mean very little), Computability with games?

The only thing they can advertise to get users who are clueless about what all those specs mean is: "This machine works better than Windows, is easy to use (you don't have to be a computer geek to use it just because it's based off unix), and we try to make it fit well into a home environment (believe it or not, some people really value having a machine that runs quietly and doesn't look like an eyesore in your living room).

Stop being a snobbish anti-Apple AC and try to see the reasoning behind Apple's business model, SURPRISE! A corporation needs money to survive, you don't think Apple is going to let this chance to not 'die' (as they were doing for so long) slip by do you? Be happy that they at least have the innovation to make up for any 'snobby' business tactics they make.

In OS X it's called alias. Look in the file menu while in the finder, drag the alias to the desktop. There are other faster ways such as holding down command+option while dragging it as well. Also in the mac world, most people don't put apps on their desktop. If they want something quickly accessible they use the dock, otherwise they just go to the applications folder. If you really have a lot of programs you might want to build your own folder tree to categorize things like I do. If you want a "start menu" then drag that folder into your dock and right-click/ctrl-click on it when you want to use it.

Of course since the kind of response I'd get if I said, "Women should be allowed to breast feed their babies in public places," would be along the lines of, "You just want to see women's tits you perv" despite the fact that breast feeding is considered healthier for the developing child, there's no surprise that people only see the human body as a sex toy.

I keep my phone ringer off most of the time anyway, If someone calls when I'm walking somewhere, driving, in class, tuff, I'll get back to them when I pull my phone out and see missed calls/new messages.
