Ouch! Even the possibility, there are probably doctors for that.:)
But really, your're right I haven't been married before though I've seen alot of people do this little thing call compromise. Depends on the person you hook up with, and their motivations for doing what they do.
Tried some 'hacking' on some big issues and it worked.
You were right about the small annoying stuff. Y'never know until you ask. Just make sure you don't assume that she's going to change, and be happy with whatever result.
What happens when your version of Girlfriend 1.0 WON'T upgrade to Wife 1.0?
I don't really have any other software that conflicts. I think (in my foolish arrogance) if the upgrade would happen, I could hack Wife 1.0 into a Wife 1.0b or Wife 1.1.0 that won't cause as many conflicts.
Of course, my version of Girlfriend 1.0 has the minimize option, doesn't spawn child process, but every 30 days tends to crash or become incredibly unpredictable. Then on day 1 it goes back to working perfectly.
Most folks who truly enjoy 'japanamation' know it as anime (pronounced anni-may).
I apologize for nitpicking, if you did not know, but if you use the correct nomenclature you might gain a little more respect from the people in power who create anime.
UncleOrson, although it is visually necessary, it is unfortunate that you were required to cut from Ender's Game screenplay. It would be refreshing to see a film that crept over the 2-2.5 hour mark to save the story. I'm sure the majority of Slashdot posters would be willing to sit through that extra 1/2 hour to see your complete vision.
It is also unfortunate that you have to schlep around to undeserving mass market studios. Ender's Game would be a crown jewel for any start-up independent studio house. They might be able to do the film more to your vision.
Good luck in your efforts. I (and the hundered or so other that I know about) are looking forward to seeing Ender's Game when it is complete.
It's funny because it means that you can probably yell at it and the LED will turn red.
Then it will scurry away to a corner and be sad. All the while becoming more and more disgruntled until one day it has an emotional breakdown and sucks your face clean-off while you sleep.
Nothing personal to any individual, but that's funny.
Also, rather than spoofing a lamp, something smaller could be used. Try making it like another piece of furniture using a wireless setup. Put a few IR tranmitters on a few inconspicuous jacks. Then use the funiture as a relay point to an outside source. It would be a little more tricky, but if you happen to be night cleaning staff there is more time to play around with it. Besides, this is assuming most offices and IT don't have lighting by fluorescent celing lights. It would be stupid putting a normal lamp in that enivironment. Might as well plant a pine tree in the desert and try to get people to ignore it.
I actually tried to read his little rant, but it was way too much. His total deviation of the books destroys the story. In his attempt to remove the man from the myth, he kills what is best about the Dune series which is the details. Yes, I'm also glad he didn't get near it. It would have meant an even swifter death. Although he movie was quite bad, it still motivated me to read the series of books. Seeing Jodorowski's crap would have made me flush the books down the toilet.
For those of you who liked Agent Smith, Hugo Weaving will be returning for the next two movies as Agent Smith. How, you ask, as he was destroyed in the first movie? Well, let me quote Hugo directly (I'm a friend of his brother-in-law): "I'm not huuuuumaaaaan!!!! I can't die!"
Excellent.
I should mention (as if anybody's listening still) that all this discussion is starting to lead towards hype. Hype that destroyed TPM.
Luckily, the Brothers have been very clueful about presenting their vision accurately. The 'behind-the-scenes' bits from the DVD do show alot about them. For all intents and purposes they are geeks. They enjoy what they do, and have a clear vision about the story they wish to present. I just hope they don't let the studio merchandise the sequel into pre-hype oblivion.
Maybe Rob, Jeff, and the gang could do one of these in light of the new book.
I've been a large fan of Sandman. Seeing Sandman end was like the shattering of a priceless statue worked in crystal. Throughout the series I've always had questions.
I'd be curious to see what questions he would answer and what other questions he would consider undisclosed. That was part of the magic. Building a tight story that still leaves you thinking. A story which built a following by creating interesting and compelling characters while giving them some shared mutual history with the audience. Worked for Sandman, concept still works for Buffy.
The only other things that I would consider close to this would be Watchman, and Hellblazer.
Okay. Normally I don't go jumping up and down about a show, but TWIN PEAKS!! Preach on!
Actually, Twin Peaks is a show that left the TV scene accidentally. Where X-files has just hit the 'growing old gracefully' mark. The X-files has been drying up ever since the conspirators were all turned into crispy critters by rebel aliens. I don't blame anyone for wanting to move on. Carter could salvage it, but hopefully he won't. That fact that Carter does try other things (Millienium, the new Harsh Realm) does show he's been planning to move on for awhile.
As for Twin Peaks IIRC, David Lynch and Mark Frost had to stop, since the show didn't recieve network support and the story was hard to carry after the Black Lodge ending. Maybe it is time for Uberagent Dale Cooper to return with a recharge to the story line.
. ..(for those who have not yet seen it--and you are poor, poor, POOR deprived children and must correct this Right Now, and no, you don't have to hunt for fandubs; you can go right down the local Suncoast or Anime Nation and get it--. . .
Or go to your local Anime convention. I'd suggest Otakon, Katsucon, or A-con for all the East Coast folks.
As for Slayers, yes I agree that Slayers is D&D gone horrible, totally wrong in a cheesy, fun rollacoaster kind of fashion. Definitely worth the time.
Lodoss Wars always comes across as something too stereotypical for words. While it is visually stunning, its substance lacks a little to make it interesting fantasy fare.
That's what this new D&D movie could become. A cheesy, stereotypical romp through D&D geekland that everyone will want to see and then be horribly disappointed.
This movie could be a new cult hit if it shows some depth/forethought in the script, and avoids ultrahype and all that it contains (ie. heavy merchandising before the movie is even released!)
Also, avoiding heavy special effects might actually be a good move. A majority of fantasy films had neither the technology nor the budget for high class special effects, but have done well in staying power. For example, LadyHawke, Conan etc.
As an 80's-90's gamer, I wouldn't mind seeing a Dragonlance/Forgotten Realms movie. Let's see how the D&D one does.
Personally, I'd like to see Arnie come back and do a final Conan movie. The one where he would become king by his own hand. He's old enough now to do the part realistically. Conan wouldn't need to hack and slash, use an army. >;->
Give a human a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the Matrix
Yes, in console vs pc the console will probably lose. But in PS2 vs. dreamcast, the PS2 is going to come out as the clear winner. The only reason I say this is from first hand experience. (I add the disclaimer that I'm not a hardcord console gamer.)
I had a chance to see and play on a dreamcast during an anime convention ealier in July. Being on staff, I also had a super rare chance to see a PS2 demo.
I thought the dreamcast was pretty cool, it played fast and felt almost arcade like. (especially with gun oriented games!)
Then I saw the PS2 demo. The demo was incredible. Anything that fluid in a game I must have! I haven't bought a console game, since the Atari 2600 (if you can call that a console), but the PS2 looks like my next purchase.
These are probably semi-newbie questions, but here goes . . .
When did you first come up with the idea for User Friendly?
Was it a spark of inspiration or something you've been waiting to do for awhile?
Will User Friendly continue to be a comic strip, or might it move to animation?
There seems to be an unspoken connection between various geek comics on the web.(ie After Y2K etc.) Is this by accident? How many other online comic artists do you know?
Is User Friendly an exclusive solo effort? Do you have an assistance with any drawing, inking, coloring etc.? Or is it all just done on computer?
And Finally
Do you folks out there like Murphy's Irish Cream Stout as well as Guiness?
AgentSmith
Disconnect a human and he'll swear he's the center of The Matrix.
It's all too late. They'll probably make a sequel, and put in cute prequel material in the storyline.
A prequel has merit, but why does the entertainment industry feel the need to make prequels when the sequel avenue looks weak?
TRON could have an amazing sequel depending on your perspective. Sure, TRON's ending wrapped up alot of loose ends. Tron no longer has any conflicts, but previous posts mentioned the mystique of TRON's world in the 80's. Imagine how that world would have developed in 10 or 15 years? I'm sure it would probably follow the same pattern as a country town as it turns into a large city. The mainframe connects with the client server network. New programs (people) are created by the almighty users. Tron wasn't just fighting the MCP. He was fighting progress of a huge consolidated mainframe. 90's IT technology has would probably disrupt the harmony of TRON's world just as much as a MCP. Look at a certain software company's OS. If anything of TRON is to be done, it should be a sequel. Not a prequel or a remake. That requires too much risk and too many expectations from the cult followers and well wishers ala TPM. Plus you can never get the same actors for a remake, or make it feel new. This reminds me of the rumors in the early 90's about making a Highlander prequel that followed Ramirez.

I resolve to train an army of geeks and storm Microsoft's headquarters,
Ok, me, my mercenaries and fellow agents are in to storm Microsoft and leave nothing but a burning wake.
Oh, and I resolve to be less violent this year.

How about I call you Mr. Anderson?
