    dell are already giving the option of having a usb keychain instead of a floppy. there was also a case study in dell site where they tell about General motors or general electric (not sure which) requesting usb keychains instead of floppy drives. so floppy is on the way out. but its not there yet. floppy can still be usefull when u have a dead system and need to copy a 15 kb document from it.

    i remember seeing this kind of technology on discovery channel several years (around 99 i think). they fixed speakers to a car exhaust pipe and and played a inverted form of the noise that they captured using a microphone. it also showed the same technology used to reduce vibration. from what i remember the equipment used were just basic speakers and stuff the only difficult part is predicting what the noise will be like in the next moment using past data.

    well microsoft used to use unix/linux for it but then ppl started pointing it out so now they use windows servers i think. and b4 this transition to windows i dont seem to remember any downtime on hotmail.

    nope from my experiance it simply doesnt work. when office 2000 came i had plenty of documents that i couldnt open with office 97. and they were simple letter kind of documents nothing fancy. in my school only one of our labs had a laser printer and there was no network between the two labs and i remember taking a simple letter that i typed using office 2000 into the other and it wouldnt print so i have to go back to the pc with office 2000 and save it as 97 type document to get it printed. that really sucks.

    its been some time since i used this but i think firebird allows simple alter statements to be transactable. i remember it happend to me once by accidednt. not sure though maybe i should check it out later..

    the parent post is very true abt firebird. its a very good database system. its pretty simple to install and manage but has lots of features compared to other opensoucrce database servers.

    its a pity thought that he chose to flame firefox bcuz its also a very good browser the only one which was able to replace internet explorer as the primary browser for me. moz guys made a mistake on choosing the name. but now that they corrected it i think its time to move on. also firebird was already famous before the name dispute.

    i'm not sure bieng able to open the door using a somewhat generic key is very reassuaring. i mean what if the thief simply wants to steal something valuable in the car. the car sterio for example. wouldnt it be somewhat easier with a generic key. they could always break the window and do it. but if a guy actually opens the door with a key nobody around him would be too suspicious of him even if the alarm goes off. so i dont think this generic door key is very good idea.

    actually there is a plugin for IE which allows u to disable pictures from a button in toolbar (actually a shortcut in links bar) i used to install it when i used IE but now i use firebird :). i think its called IE Power toys or IE web accessories. its somewhere in MS site. they say that its only for IE 5 but i've had no problems with IE 6

    just guessing here but maybe its bcuz non of the existing software at the time used these key combination as a hotkey. so it wouldnt break any existing application.

    windows xp and windows 2003 server both have a "send to Compressed (Zipped) folder" which creates a zip file. xp also displays zip files as folders. though this goes away once u install winzip associate zip files with it.

    actually what i've heard is that when removing the PATA type power cable its possible to have one of the volatge lines disconnect while the other is connected (e.g. 12v connected while 5v gets disconnected) this could potentially do something like force 12v down a line which would otherwise be balanced by the 5v line thereby burning something. dont know the accurracy of it (read it somewhere). anyway i used to this and never had any serious problem other than losing a few files when i forget to unmount the partitions.

    that almost happend to me. a friend of mine brought his pc which he has tried to assemble but seeing it to be too complex he brought it to me and asked me to fix it for him. when i opend the cover most of the stuff was not connected and a floppy power cable had been connected to sound cards cd audio in socket. had he switched on the power without checking it he wouldve been able to see the exact same thing as u :)

    yeah i also ran into the problem some time ago when i used one of there nightly builds. most of the themes havenet been updated to support the new system but luckily u can fix the theme file ur self (u have to do a simple search and replace) check the forums abt it.

    i got my dsl a month ago and all this time i only had 1 single port scan on my machine. but in the last 12 hours alone my firewall logs more than 650 attemts on port 135 thats on the average 1 attempt every 2 min. i checked some of the ips using ip2country and they seem to be coming from US mostly but some from korea, australia, uk, practically all over the world ( i live in Sri Lanka). i mean i have never seen a virus spread so fast. ppl are going to have a long think abt windows security after this. i mean sure ms issued a patch and everything but average person dont really check security bulletins and stuff and this virus will spread really fast. luck thing i configured my firewall to block these ports month ago :).
