i'm a sri lankan. i wasnt in the effected area but the footage that i saw was so disturbing i simply stopped watching tv after a few hours.
busses with people still in it were swept away as if they were paper boats. people who were trying to hold on to a building were swept away one by one. and while all this was happenning the people who were taping the scene along with a few others who were on a bridge could do nothing to help. it makes you feel completly helpless.
so many people have died that even identifying them is simply impossible. most of the dead are being buried in mass graves. and most of them havent even been identified.
my experiance is that securing IE using policies is not really a solution. the worst spyware usually install themselves using vulnerabilities in IE so even browings at a high security level dont really help. installing the latest patches as soon as they come doesnt help either since cuz spyware writers are much faster at exploiting vulneratbilities than microsoft is at patching the browser/os.
actually i think this is a good thing. just because a project seperates due to differences doesnt mean they shouldnt share code. that way they both can enhance the differences and not waste time on common code. if the other person doesnt like ppl taking his code then why did he fork ur project instead of starting from scratch.
if only kde and gnome could/would share common code (i dont know if such a thing is possible. but hypothetically speaking) both would save a lot of time as well improve the linux desktop for everyone and not just selected set of ppl.
p2p need not be alive for there to be file sharing. file sharing was going on long before p2p. before even the widespread use of the internet. passing a cd (or whatever medium) by hand to a friend who will give it to a another friend cannot be controlled by RIAA watchdog and its much more secure.
face it nomatter how much any industry or goverment is trying to control illegle filesharing it will happen. there are tons of laws and tuff regulations on drugs but they cant even properly control that. they might make it more difficult to share files in the open but they wont be stopping anybody who really wants to share files. and there are lots of people who really want to share files.
i agree. i dont like popups but i dont really find ads to be annoying and on the very very rare occasions i have actually find them to be usefull in finding out about a cool product.
i havent watched TV in around 6 months now (if you excuse the rare occasions where i watch it while in a friends house or some queue somewhere) and i used to be addicted to TV. The internet is much more entertaining and also usefull for me.
the main attractiveness about the internet is that i can see what i want when i want it. also u dont a google in tv:).
i think the internet will definetly be more popular than the TV as broadband gets cheaper and more widley available.
soon we'll be learning tons of ways to circumvent RFIDs. kids are very good at finding out ways to circumvent stuff like this. nomatter how good a system might be when it goes against lots of kids with a lot of time on there hands and new ways of thinking i wonder how long it will take b4 kids find away around this.
you know all the army ads they put on tv and newspapers to recruit new soldiers. stuff abt glory and stuff. forget all those all they have to do post info about this into one of those game sites and all the geeks in us would be linining up to get recruited:).
come to think of now that this has been already posted at slashdot.....
the new hotmail interface is hardly simple. just goto the attachment screen it takes u a while to see that the ok button is above the browse for input box.
also it uses javascript links which mean u cant right click and select open in new tab/window. so u cant let each email load in the a seperate tab while ur reading one of them.
i still use my hotmail account as the primary account even though i have a gmail because i can download it to my local machine for backup. yes i know hotmail is using a proprietery HTTPMail protocol but its quite simple and i have a simple perl script which download and backup hotmail emails to my local disk via a cron job. until gmail gives me similar facility i dont want to use gmail as my primary account because i want to be able to back them up easily.
there is a advantage in windows firewalls that i cant see in iptables. most windows firewall apps allow you to set application specific rules like Mozilla can intiate outgoing HTTP trafic but some other application cant. that drastically reduces the damage done spyware and even helps you find them.
ofcuz i dont think there are spyware for linux machines yet so its not much of a problem. but still it would be a pretty usefull feature.
i think the issue here is not so much as the price of the patent but the patent itself. it doesnt matter if they give licenses for free. the main issue is a 'bug fix' like this should not be allowed to be patented in first place.
they have simply blocked links that come from slashdot using referrer field instead of clicking link copy and paste http://www.ignalum.com/ in the address bar
would u be willing to give away that flash cartridge to ur friend? this would be really cool ppl can exchange the games they make cuz printing it would cost next to nothing. sure u could give away the source code or a binary file but this is much easier.
also could this reader be connected to a computer and be made into a cheap smart card like authentication device. sure it wouldnt be very secure but it would be more secure than just tying ur password to login
exactly i run emule on linux i highly doubt this would effect me. besides i dotn even use WMA.

its simply unbreable.

so how many ppl are u going to be employing for customer support on christmas morning. :)
"Hello, Ohhh hi aunt may. merry christmas to you too."
"what the cd doesnt boot.. ohh ok lets see now...."
the minibrowser is still there. its now in the "media library" window under the "now playing" section.
i use Winamp on linux+wine. i tried xmms it was good but still lacked a few features of winamp + i couldnt get it to work all the time.

In the website check out the last character profile (the profile of the villain : Syndrome).

It says
Primary Attributes:
Super Villain
Secondary Attributes:
Extreme Wealth
now who's the person that pops into ur head. was it was Mr. Bill Gates.....
"sorry office i have two X chromosomes and i saw it as a green light."
laser is all nice but would it be safe with kids who might try to look at the laser?
try emule i find it to be quite free of those corrupted songs.
"What if a spyware is packaged like a plugin for your app"
one of the firewalls that i tested (either kerio or outpost) even checks dll's that run inside a application thereby stoping search bar type spyware.
but personally i use firefox so i dont have that searchbar problem only standalone spyware that somehow sneak in when you install adware programs.

perhaps they just got too much ppl downloading and temprorarly removed the download? after all it linked in slashdot wasnt it.
i think it must be cuz those speed increases are similar to the speed gain they mentioned in the bugzilla.
