I read somewhere (I think it's macrumors.com) about Jobs saying that when he came back to Apple, basically he found himself with a ship with a leak at the bottom, and his job was to take the helm and point the ship to the right direction.
Not sure what that means either, but it must be some reference to that.

I read here not long ago there's a agme that does just that explicitly, I think it was _Galactic Civilizations_ or something similar. Basically during training, it sends you a message saying "I see you're building up an army to invade my/your allies but I'll pretend not to notice until you launch an attack"
Wicked!:) I'm not too fond of RTS but I might get that one.
Gemini IV had an issue at the end of the spacewalk but everything was fine. I think I recall reading that the astronaut inside was worried that he may have to leave his companion outside for reentry, but I'm not sure that's true.
Yes it's a plot element from the Thief series that was also implemented in Deus Ex. Great games, although the latest sequels lacked the sprit of the originals.
That's what happens in "The Fortress", if I remember correctly. The haxxorz guy eters the security computer minutes from being killed and types stuff, then the computer says "Security Systems protected", and he just types "override" or something very similar, just like you said. And bam, all security is offline.
Damnit, that movie was just as awful as I remembered.
That's true, and I actually tried hard lenses on the advice of my ophtalmologist. I'm nearsighted and also have this issue with one eye that gets "lazy", ie it tends to rely on the other, which in turn gets tired more quickly. I had tried softs and they were prfect, but hard lenses have the added bonus to correct this problem. AS I understand it, the fact they're rigid forces the eye to adopt the right "shape", thus correcting the problem more accurately.
Unfortunately after two weeks of trial and getting more or less used to it, my eyes suddenly refused to take it any longer. I have no idea why... I just couldn't stand hard lenses any more (any type):(
Since then I've been wearing glasses, but I'm gonna switch to soft lenses soon again. In my experience they're about as perfect as I can get. And for the above poster who asked "why no glasses?", even if we're not in the 50's anymore, it's because lenses are the closest to natural vision we can have. Compared to all other solutions, glasses are still heavy, intrusive, and get dirty and/or wet at any occasion, plus they can fall any time. Of course you can take care of it, but there's only so much you can do about it. Lenses need more maintenance, but only just before and just after you use them, and that's it. In the end it's really worth the price. I never had a problem with losing a lens, or having to wipe it clean at a critical moment, or... well, you get the idea.
So, let's imagine the NASA execs says they don't want to take any risk, and they send Atlantis or whatever other shuttle they have in standby. What if they *also* see debris there during launch and declare there is too much risk for that one as well, and they can't go back either...?
What then? a Mega-Soyuz magically comes and picks them up? Is there a backup backup plan?
Debris falling off are *part* of the launch. They should know that by now...
but the Euros politicizing a film festival to influence U.S. elections is... pathetic.
On a related note, I'd like to point out that four members of the jury were american, and one was from the UK.
I'd think they know what they're doing, wouldn't you?
By the way, hello everyone, this is my first post =)
But... But... There's only enough C4 here to blow up TEN supercomputers! We can't have more than that!!!
Interesting.
Could be the first step towards building arcologies...
Yes, that's the quote I was looking for. Thanks.

I want to go to the crappy planet where I'm a hero!
In the Old days of the Republic, we could have sent a thousand nuts to a thousand execs to have them obey our slightest whims...
... Someone should redirect the radio station to the ID protection act, paragraph 10, section T... the ID-10-T section.

Must be on the way, I heard someone created a special mat just for that!
But... But...
If astronauts become cavemen, then who fights who...? And WHO WINS?
*head explodes*
woopsie... I only saw the movie, once, long ago, and actually didn't like it. Never got to read the book.

I for one welcome our Blindfolded Crawling Chocolate-Tracking Overlords!
The other side of the story, a cool video I downloaded a few months ago, I don't remember where...

We just received Aibo's reaction to the sad news...

If *I* was an alien, I'd buy a mobile phone and pretend I was God ;)
hehe... one of my greatest achievements, April 1st, 2004

the upcoming *drum roll* SHOCK MOVIE!
the reactions were interesting. If words could kill, I'd be dead
I personally am looking forward to the day when my car will (...) alert me that I am going off the road if I am falling asleep at the wheel.
;)
Actually the new C4 (Google translation) by Citroen will have that.
Of course, being a French car and all, I'll just wait in that corner for the jokes...
