I have yet to read the Machine Crusade (not in paperback yet:) ), but I've read all of the others. (all 6 originals at least twice, plus the other prequels)
Frankly, the BH/KA style is more popcorn and bubblegum writing. FH's style was much more cereberal, especially in the latter Dune books. It's like a Three Musketeers bar vs. a box of Milk Duds. Both are OK, but one will take you much longer to chew.;) I've read all of KA's Star Wars books, and they are among the better of that series, but they're still 'fast page turners', not something that actually makes you think (but that covers most of the SW series of books - don't even get me started on the Vong books:-@ ).
Back to Dune prequels, I was very disappointed in the continuity of the prequels with the FH series (Paul born on Kaitain and not Caladan as FH said?). To me, it seems like BH/KA are going after the 'quick story', and not putting the soul in to it like FH did with the original series. I will buy and read the book when it comes out on Paperback, tho.
We had a guy who worked across the hall from me. He was the 'cable cop'. He even had a little silver badge pasted on to his employee access badge. His job was to purchase pirate devices, and then get with engineering on how the company could defeat them.:)
It was pretty interesting, getting to play with the chipped boxes, seeing what happened. Of course, that was a few years ago when analog still ruled the roost and digital was working but not prevalent.
Engineering had to come up with different scrambling algorithms to try and keep one step ahead. Those head end scramblers were pretty cool pieces of equipment. We'd throw the latest scrambler firmware at the pirate boxes and see what happened. And then there were the attempts at total picture obliteration (no "nude parts" in a picture). Those were interesting to test. =8)
I bailed out of that industry, but I must admit, the trade shows were pretty darn good.;)
To defeat Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids...
You're kidding, right?
I usually have SciFi on from 7-10 pm CST every night. Every other commercial on SciFi has been for BSG, and they've been running the 1-hour specials all the time too....
I usually leave SciFi channel on in the evenings when working. Saw a preview. I am looking forward to it. I watch all kinds of B-scifi-movies, and actually enjoy them.
They flat out stated that they were taking a different approach to this BSG. In the earlier one, the Cylons were just mad at humans. That's all we knew. Why? Nobody knew. What was their history? Nobody knew. At least they're attempting some sort of story / history on the Cylons, and not just an Independence Day scenario of aliens attacking because they feel in a pissy mood that day.
I am glad the SciFi channel at least does *something*, but I'm still not happy they discontinued Farscape.
I enjoyed their Dune remakes (bought the DVD's even). I'm a sick pup, but those 3- and 4- star (out of IMDB's 10 star rating) are some of my faves.:D
I've got Snort logs with these Messenger Service ads in them. They advertise sites (like MessageDestroyer, MessageBasher, etc) that 'sell' you software to disable the ads. These sales pitches always warn you that you are open to hacking or porn site advertisements.
What I find amusing is that usually a couple hours later, from the SAME EXACT IP ADDRESS as the anti-Messenger spam, a 'porn' ad or Viagra ad will appear.
I was poking around the web this morning, trying to find out why Snort was blabbering about these ICMP packets. The first hit was at 2:45am CST, but traffic really picked up about 7:45-8:00 am. I spent a bit this morning looking around, now I see what happened.
The thing I don't like about this VIRUS is that it is now going to be ping sweeping away through the end of the year, cluttering my logs. That sucks.
It's Wednesday. Time for the SCO Press Release.
Just like tomorrow's Thursday. Time for the latest Microsoft Windows Update patch.
Anyone surprised by this "next ridiculous statement"? I'm not...
I have Jurassic Park legos strewn all over my office. My ofc has become a part time dinosaur preserve.
Last year it was Star Wars. Now it'd Dinosaurs.
My wife ONLY buys Legos when they're on clearance though. They drop to about 40% of their original price ($7 vs. $20, by waiting a few months).

He's the one changing out the tires, to see which one's flat... :)
They're promoting the heck out of it, IMO...

BTW, I do agree, there are other manufacturers out there. Take your dollars somewhere else...

This site reminds me of Furnitureporn.com
