  1. Why Would They Do This? on Oracle Sues SAP for Spidering Their Support Site · · Score: 1
I don't get it. If SAP *did* steal Oracle's code, why would the *want* to do this? SAP is the number 1 application suite in use in the *world*. It doesn't make sense for them to steal code.

Could this lawsuit be nothing more than Larry being Larry?

There's an interesting quote from The Globe And Mail article on this:

"This isn't really about protecting intellectual property," said Forrester Research analyst Ray Wang. "This is all about the art of war."

Imagine the effect if future victims of the RIAA know that if they try to defend themselves in court, they'll lose money no matter what. If that isn't a chilling effect, then I don't know what is.

Exactly. I take this statement from the judge to mean, "You just can't drag this poor woman through 2 years of hell and expect to just walk away from it." I applaude the judge for his stand.

I never understood this idea of Harper being a "lap dog" of the US. So, if we agree with the US on any matter (not including this matter), even if it's our own opinion not that of anybody elses, then we are a "lap dog", but if we disagree and bash our neighbours to the south, it's seen as "standing up for Canada"? I don't get it.

"C-Net says last year saw a 131 percent jump in digital sales, but overall the industry still saw about a 4 percent decline in revenue. Some executives at this week's Digital Music Forum East conference lashed out at Jobs, blaming Apple and its CEO for their troubles.

Man, I laughed my ass off when I read this one. So, there's a 4 percent decline in overall revenue. The only reason they could find is Steve Jobs? Of course, it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that their products suck, would it? No, they would never look at themselves and wonder why sales are down. I guess their latest "pop tarts" aren't bringing in the money they were a long time ago. Oh, and I'm sure the lawsuits aren't affecting the revenue line. Nah - it's got to be Steve Jobs, isn't it?

Please. How lame can you get?

Why not sue whoever was letting a 14 year old play a rated M game for hours on end? No, we must sue the ones with the most money instead. Great logic.

And this surprises anyone? Whenever anything like this happens, the typical responses are:

    1. Sue the game manufacturers/gun makers/etc.

    2. Call on the government for greater gun/game/crime control.

    3. Go to the media to plead your case.

Really, we should be looking for reasons why this 14 year old chose to shoot his family. Yes, it was his choice. He could have chosen to talk to a school councellor, or a friend, or somebody in authority, but instead he chose to pull a weapon. What was going on behind the scenes? Was home life just fine or something horrible? Unfortunately, we will never find out. Instead, we have people who want to push their anger towards somebody else who will give them compensation for their "pain". They'll never admit that they didn't know what was going on in the house. Heck, even if they did, they won't admit that either.

I've played a few of the GTA/James Bond/FPS games. Heck, I've even played the NHL series from 2001-2006 and I don't have an urge to body-check somebody into a store shop. Just turning around and suing game manufacturers is a knee-jerk reaction to this horrible event. Instead of looking at the peripheral factors, how about looking to the true source of problems?

I know that bullying will never stop, and "cyber-bullying" is still bullying using a different medium. However, I'm glad this was dealt with the way it was. When you're made fun of because of your weight/looks/personality, is shouldn't be tollerated at all.

Until now I was sure that the only thing with a higher TCO than Oracle was a Sea Stallion helicopter (38 hours of maintenance required for every hour of flight). I guess I never thought about SAP TCO because most of the SAP rollouts I heard about failed.

But all we hear about is SAP projects that failed - we hardly/never hear of any successful ones. I've been doing software rollouts for PeopleSoft/Oracle for 4 years now, and I can tell you that while Oracle's product may have a lower TCO, it's usability sucks. It's probably the most cumbersome product I have ever used. In addition, it's security setups are so old, it's a surprise that they still use it. From what I've seen with PeopleSoft and SAP (though I admit I haven't seen SAP as extensively as PeopleSoft), their usability and security is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Oracle's. IMO, TCO cannot be the only reason that a company looks at an ERP suite. Fit and usability are a better indicators.
