I'm a Libertarian and I fully see the need for net neutrality, I think Microsoft should be shut down for their practices and not allowed to reopen until they are FULLY in compliance with all rulings, and I believe that corporations have become leeches on society as a whole. I fully understand what DRM is and see why the *AA wants it, but I also feel that if I pay x amount of dollars for something, I have the right to do whatever the fuck I want to do with it. I believe that the population of the USA over the last 30-40 years has gotten the government they deserve simply because no one wanted to understand politics, except for the politicians, of course. We now have a generation of kids who aren't able to think for themselves (or just don't want to) and are perfectly happy with letting the government do all the thinking for them. Our forefathers built this government with the intent that the citizens would play an active role in politics, not just let the reps do whatever they wanted to unchecked. But we have turned our heads and begun letting these people "protect us from ourselves", and now that we see the error, it's too late to do anything about it. I'm not pointing fingers, by no means, because I did the exact same thing. Up until the last few years, I couldn't give 2 shits about politics. Now that I have children of my own, and I'm paying attention to the world around me and around them, I see that I should have been more active when I was younger. I am teaching my children to pay attention to everything, and to voice their opinions about everything while they can. May not be much longer before "Freedom of Speech" is another byline in the history books.

I'm a professional Graphic Designer that uses the Gimp when the need arises, but there is one thing the Gimp lacks that keeps it from being a Photoshop "killer": CMYK support. I have been promised many times that CMYK is being worked on, but it hasn't been made available (don't mention seperate, as it does NOT work right). Right now, the Gimp is the best solution for web graphics, but anything going to paper needs to go through Photoshop first. Until then, Photoshop will rule. If Adobe gets it in gear and releases a Linux version of Photoshop (they used to code for Unix, so it can't be that far off), Illustrator, and InDesign, they can corner the market with Linux DTP apps and bring linux out of the server/imagesetter room and to the desktop. All we need is for one high profile company to climb aboard. The others will follow, including Microsoft with Office (yes, even though they hate OSS, they love money more, so it will happen sooner or later).

This is something I've been trying to address to the OSS community. We need to use hard links if the version isn't the same. Install it in the application's directory. That's where it belongs. This would solve all of Linux's dependency problems, IMO.

But Photoshop 7 runs under Crossover Office 2.1 really well, and doesn't require all the pains as wine. You can set Crossover to show the open with crossover in your rightclick menu for .exe files and it's pretty much the same as on Windows. I only have 2 complaints with the Gimp: 1. No CMYK support built in. I install from RPMS, so compiling the plugin into the source is out. Plus, I'm not real good with that. 2. The disjointed windows. One poster a little up the page made a comment about that. Why can't we have it so that if you bring one of the windows to the front they all come up, and always give the image window the focus? Ife we could have both of these taken care of, the Gimp would quickly pass Photoshop. And, by the way, I am a professional Graphic Designer, so I know what I'm talking about.
