John Tory (the next mayor of Toronto) has made statements actually supporting Uber. Thing is, although he's been elected he hasn't taken office yet, so he's not quite in a position to act. Be interesting to see what happens when he takes the helm, though.
With the Nexus 5 still in up-to-date advertising material, I'd say they haven't abandoned it yet. Hell, the page images show it running Android L and in more backing colours than were on the Play Store as I write this (Black, white, red).
I'm pretty sure that means they're not dropping the '50% of the price of an iPhone' feature of the line.
The page that the Nexus 6 is presented on still has a link to the Nexus 5. My personal theory at this time (unproven) is that they're keeping the Nexus 5 around as their lower-end model, since they don't have anything to replace its price point with. Hell, the Nexus 5 page now shows the device running Android L (Lollipop.)
Which is why I'll continue to use a passcode instead of activating fingerprint / facial recognition. Hell, my phone even straight-up told me that facial recognition is weaker than a passcode.
I just bought a couple of his books last week, knowing he wouldn't be around much longer. I haven't had time to fully read them yet (I'm maybe a hundred and fifty pages into Consider Phlebas) but from what I've read so far, the world is now a poorer place for having lost Mr. Banks.
Browsers exploding in fury when self-signed certs show up is a design decision to protect stupid users from themselves. Otherwise, Joe Sixpack is going to start blindly 'trusting' every self-signed cert he sees just to get the dialog box/popup whatever out of the way, just like he already blindly clicks 'ok' when faced with those fake antivirus popups.
Several posts on the WoW general forums and MMO-Champion's article on the subject raise a valid and somewhat chilling point: while forum trolls are likely to be driven away, removing some of the noise from actual discussions, actual contributing posters are going to be shying away from the new forum system as well. People who would otherwise be helpful, share knowledge about class and game mechanics or even info about interface-modding are going to disappear entirely from the forums because they do not want to be compelled to show their real name to all.
I'm not sure if the loss of signal will be worth the loss of noise here.
...That we lost the Northeastern grid in 2003 through malicious intervention, or that it simply failed and "dominoed" all by itself after some nasty spikes in Canada?
Hey, don't blame us. The article you referenced (link fixed) pegs the domino effect as starting from within Ohio.
That's like them not supporting 68k chips past OS 8.1. Technology moves on, and after a while it won't make sense to support the oldest models anymore.
I can hardly consider the logos or branding on any OS I've used so far to actually be intrusive or advertising. I mean, (in the case of non-free OSes) you've already bought the darn thing, right? Right now they're more just like a reminder about what OS you're using.
That's pretty handy, actually. Still I'd rather not update mine until the update itself has a zero chance of bricking my unit. Even if it IS free, that's time where the wii itself is left unusable. (And I'm far from the only person who wants to use this one in particular.)
Sorry, I should've been more specific. I refer specifically to 'Windows XP Professional x64 Edition,' the version actually made for amd64 architecture.
The Itanium version came before Server 2003, yes. Amd64 codebase came around in 2005, though.

I'm assuming there's a missing < in there? 'I <3'
The IMEI isn't a routable phone number. It's an identifier (that is supposed to be) unique to each handset, somewhat like a serial number.

Replying to cancel out an incorrect moderation. I did not want to set this as troll.
Guess what series I was reading when I came up with my current handle.
McCaffrey's books helped me get a jumpstart on literacy way back when. G'bye, Anne. Thanks for all the books.
Parent post gave me a laugh, since Nineteen Eighty-Four was in fact one of the first things to be remote-killed.

Perhaps phones should have a 'wipe non-volatile memory if SIM is removed/replaced' option in the future.

Drivers.
People aren't taking the time to learn the meaning of the 'available' memory stat in the Task Manager.
Based on my experience, it's usually very close to the total you get when adding 'free' memory and 'cached' memory together.
'Available' in this case means that, as parent suggests, Windows will free it for use as soon as it's needed.
Remember the Northeast Blackout of 2003 ?

Why the hell are consoles serving ads? I never had much desire to pick up a PS3/X360, but what little there was just plummeted.
The firmware on board night be licensed, but the hardware itself is sold.

So now Nintendo and Sony have both managed to brick consoles with firmware updates. Great.
Sorry, fellas. YOU broke it, YOU don't get to bill US to fix your mistakes.

Wikipedia: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
XP and 2003 are distinct at the 32-bit level.
However. XP x64 is actually just Server 2003 x64 rebadged.
iTunes music is no longer DRM'ed, but each file downloaded still bears the name and email address of the person that purchased it.
Video files and apps are still under DRM though, as far as I know. (They have FairPlay markers when inspected in iTunes)
