The lawsuit was about how Oreo cookies did not disclose that they contain trans fatty acids (for which the safe level of consumption is 0 grams per day. This is like suing a company that fails to disclose that they are using a poison to hold the cookie together (which what hydrogenated fats should be, and practically have been, classified as). Or what about if you went to court, and your "lawyer" turned out to be a guy who watched Law and Order and thought he could do it?

Engineering is a PROFESSION. A profession is an industry that is licensed and regulated. A secretary can't call himself a Professional because you don't need to be licensed and regulated to be a secretary, regardless of how "professional" he or she appears to be in his or her job as a secretary. Likewise, a computer programmer isn't licensed or regulated. An engineer, however, IS.

In Canada it's much simpler. You are NOT an Engineer unless the CCPE (Canadian Council of Professional Engineers) says you are. To be an Engineer, you must have an Engineering Degree from an accredited university. You must have work experience in the relative engineering field (2-3 years), and you must pass a written exam on professional practice (ethics, laws, regulations, etc.) Also, you're obligated upon graduation by taking the Oath of the Iron Ring, which just like the Hippocratic Oath, swears you to uphold the standards of Engineering for the public good and safety.

There is not a single clinical study that demonstrates a link between increased red meat consumption and increased heart disease. In fact, the common risk factors such as high LDL and triglycerides, don't appear to be increased by red meat consumption where the HDL or so-called "good cholesterol" is increased when eating red meat. In a cruel twist of fate, a low fat diet often substitutes carbohydrates for the fat to replace the lost flavor. These excess carbohydrates increase triglyceride levels, thus increasing heart disease risk.

dietary intake of cholesterol has absolutely no effect on blood cholesterol levels. It's got more to do with transfatty acids and the like. Lower fat in and of itself is silly - take look at all the low-fat foods out there, and how many fat people there are. Now take a look at the ingredients of those low fat foods - fat tastes good, without it, you need something else so that the "food" is palpatable. And what's in the top 3 ingredients for all these low fat foods? Sugar. Empty calories that merely rape the pancreas, skyrocket blood sugar levels, and cause diabetes (is it any wonder in the early 1900s the average person ate less than 2 lbs of sugar per year, and now it is typically over 150 lbs! Any wonder diabetes has skyrocketed?)

Read Alton's book, he talks about different fats and cholesterol, and notes just how silly and misguided current low-fat trends are.
