Well that is defacto shutting down. Their visitors can't do anything with the site, and the website cannot benefit from their visits. Its as if they didn't exist.
By offshoring to India, companies can lower their prices, thus increasing the purchasing power of the "average joe". This increasing living standards.
Blue collar workers have had to deal with foreign competition for 30 years. You've benefited through lower prices and improved product quality. Funny to see that you only throw a fit when your job is threatened....
If tricking the system is so easy, I won't be surprised if there will soon be a program that will slightly alter all your MP3s. Shouldn't be too hard to write and it wont have legal troubles.
The main reason I purchased a PC for college was because of the wealth of software available when compared to macs. Also, more people use PCs. That means more stores, lower prices and much easier to find support.
They'd pay just to play it safe. $700/server (or whatever the amount is) is tiny for a large company. There has to be incompetent CIO managers out there...I'm sure some of them believe SCO.
Well I think the thing you are is missing is that if a woman could get the choice between a 2 carat or 1 carat diamond (both of which cost the same price), which one would she choose?
Look at the synthetic pearl industry. They make pearls and they are still doing well.
Either way, DaBeers will lose market share.

There are a ton of unethical companies out there.
Also, other countries (Caribbean) do not have strong digital laws.
Remember, the guy who made the "ILOVEU" virus got off scott free...
Yeah I remember my High School Biology teacher telling me that text book companies updated their books uneccessarily frequently to cut down on the resale market.
$100 for a book is ridiculous, especially for impoverished students.
Its proven that customers have no qualms about buying pirated goods. Just look at Asia (except for Japan.)
China, Thailand, Philippines, ect. don't have strong copyright laws, so the use of pirated movies/music/software is overwhelming. Its actually hard to buy legitimate copies.
Your argument about your friends deciding to buy an album because of the lawsuits is iffy. A similar argument I heard about pirated software was that people used them to "try before you buy" (which is pure crap)
Bottom line, people think its ok to steal $1000 worth of music, but refuse to shoplift gum.
The vast majority of the bad worms (SoBig) have been Windows ones.
I know there are more Windows servers, but there isn't an overwhelming amount. The difference wouldn't be enough to compensate for being used on more servers.
Smart spammers can easily get through it. You can sign up with multiple companies easily. When one of them can't deliver spam, the spammer moves. Easy.
But everyone left on the host has to deal with crap. Imagine not being able to receive or send email because an idiot was hosted on the same server as you!
So the end result:
* Smart spammers get through (and I belive there is a main group that sends out 90% of all spam messages)
I hate it went Corporations exploit charities. Like the Yoplait caps/breast cancer. WTF do I have to mail them in for you to donate the dime?
Some corporations are evil though. One vacumn cleaner company gave $1 to a breast cancer for each product it sold. However, it limited this amount to $500,000, and it spent 2 million promoting how good a company it was!
Also, the Walk for Breast Cancer is also crap. Its run by a for profit company(!). In some of its fundraisers, none of the money raised went to charities. It all went to paying employees and advertising.
If you guys didn't know, the British government owns the BBC. Europe is trying to fight the dominant New York media - CNN, MSNBC and FOX(that have American bias). Part of this has been to make the BBC stronger. France is also trying to set up its own news network
Killer aps include: Myst and GTA III.
Just because a game can appeal to a wide audience doesn't mean it has to be dumbed down.

I agree that he should be punished. But he should not take all the blame for the virus's damage (which is unfortunately going to happen.)
He should be made of an example off, but the punishment should fit the crime!
ugh please take Economics 101!

Why is the success of Linux measured by market share? Shouldn't freedom and usability be more important?
Linux is a powerful force in servers. Developers like RedHat are needed to take Linux to the desktop. And they can get the standard GUI...
Obviously it depends on the author's consent.
You can listen to a speech for free, however I think Eminem would get pissed if you were listening to his music without any compensation.
SPEWS started with a good purpose: to fight Spam by punishing ISPs. Their purpose is good, however the way they go about achieving that is not.
Getting listed on SPEWS is very arbitrary. And to get off of it is nigh on impossible.
Smart spammers (top 30 or so send 75% of the spam) are still able to get through, while innocents get shafted.
The main reason I purchased a PC for college was because of the wealth of software available when compared to macs. Also, more people use PCs. That means more stores, lower prices and much easier to find support.
I'd never fault Apple for developing its own OS.

Um last time I checked Canada was a free country.
You'd never get arrested for critisizing the government. I'm sure there have been bigger issues protested more violently and no one getting arrested.
So the orwellian arguments do not worry you?
This could just be a precedent for more government monitoring.
The ends do not justify the means!

Yeah the "formula" musicians are getting very tiring...
There was a very interesting article in the Boston Globe today about how female musicians are dressing sleazier by the day. Jewel, Beyonce, ect.
Yeah I remember my High School Biology teacher telling me that text book companies updated their books uneccessarily frequently to cut down on the resale market.
$100 for a book is ridiculous, especially for impoverished students.
Well Seattle's tax on espresso is okay because its kinda like a "luxury tax".
But taxing LAN is just idiotic. Its gonna be a bitch to implement and comply to and will raise barely any money.
More importantly, its just another indirect tax. I wish the governemnt would just have a Value Added Tax (VAT) like they have in Canada and Europe.
Most people ignore the fact that hydrogen won't be a good fuel because it takes more to make then it gives off. It simply isn't efficient.
It is getting very annoying!
haha I remember my physics teacher gave us a whole lecture on how the flux capictor was pure crap

Although it is difficult, I believe it has been done. People have identified the top20 or so biggest USA-based spammers.
SPEWS simply doesn't work.
Smart spammers can easily get through it. You can sign up with multiple companies easily. When one of them can't deliver spam, the spammer moves. Easy.

exactly...

In addition to this, the BBC needs the prestige.
If you guys didn't know, the British government owns the BBC. Europe is trying to fight the dominant New York media - CNN, MSNBC and FOX(that have American bias). Part of this has been to make the BBC stronger. France is also trying to set up its own news network
Also, the cost would be neglibile.
