  1. Re:Wow, Sales people get it REALLY wrong sometimes on Why You Should Choose MS Office Over OO.org · · Score: 1

The megabyte requirements you quoted for Office XP are for *hard drive* space, not RAM. Try this: 128 MB RAM for WinXP Pro + 8 MB for Word + 8 MB for Excel + 8MB for Access + 8MB for Outlook (how often do you expect to run all those simultaneously, anyway?) = 160 MB RAM, not 242 - 277 MB.

Also, Suse Linux 9.0 recommends at least 96 MB of RAM. Theoretically you can run it with less RAM and it'll compensate by swapping out to virtual RAM (ie the hard drive), but I didn't have much luck two days ago installing it on a 200 MHz Pentium with 64 MB RAM.

I don't have a problem with the point you're making, but your facts needed checking.

I agree 100%. I've never felt like we needed a replacement for paperback books. This is the first ebook device that sounded like something I might take to as readily as a paperback, but it better be cheap! Frankly, I probably wouldn't pay much more than the price of a paperback for one of these, say $10. If the whole market is like me, then none of the current ebook device makers stand a chance!

Good point. I was wondering why a beta was released at 1.0, which implies, to me, a production release. If it were up to me, I'd release a beta at 0.9 or something.

If it's stable then they should probably drop the beta suffix.

In my experience, the actual work you do has far less to do with job satisfaction than do the people you work with. If you do work you love with people that you just don't click with, you'll probably start to hate that work. If you clean toilets all day with a great bunch of cow-orkers, I don't think it'd be as bad as it sounds.

The DRM that Fraunhofer's planning to add to MP3 is their LWDRM, right? Here's their press release about surround-sound-enabled MP3s, but there's no mention of DRM.

I think we should get rid of malpractice insurance altogether. If a doctor does things right and well then he/she can save the money that would've gone to insurance premiums. If that doctor screws up then they're going to feel the pain of a lawsuit a lot more than if the insurance company shielded him/her from it. Some doctors would end up financially ruined, but (in theory) that would only happen to doctors who shouldn't be in practice in the first place. A patient who sued a relatively poor doctor might not get much recompense from a lawsuit, but I don't think that's any worse than our current situation. Why do we pay insurance companies? Insurance is just another word for gambling.
