I'll put my money on "Can't master FPS with a console controller, and his younger siblings spank him in Halo 5 times a day.", or maybe yeah he is an @.
Unfortunately for MS, it seems like they believe that First == Win. God knows they will hack and slash out whatever functionality (despite its importance) to ship 360 before the PS3. They already seem to be neglecting their starting line up so they can launch "the good stuff" when PS3 goes on the shelves.
"If nothing else, now rockstar will really not support mods, which is a shame because it's what makes or breaks PC games these days..."
Excellent point.. if this whole monkey poop fight actually goes anywhere it could have serious long term consequences for games. Up until now a lot of game companies have encouraged modding, or at least looked the other way legally because it was beneficial to them and the community.
Now if Rockstar gets burned over this we could see BF3, HF3, Star Craft: Ghost, etc being locked down tight and law suits under the DCMA flying. Really companies would be justified in doing so to protect themselves from possible government/legal action. They shouldn't have to, but they will.
I'm in Canada so I can't really contact my US senators/congress people, but I would recommend every US slashdot reader contacts theirs and Mrs. Clinton. Make sure you really make the point of this game being rated for 17+.
I'm Canadian and not really educated in what government bodies handle what, but the FTC on video games? I didn't realize that was something inside their scope.
As I said before it is a 17+ game. I think the real problem and news head line is "Parents allow 10 year old kids to play games clearly marked 17+" or "EB sells age 17+ games to preteens".
Oh well at least Rockstars PR move which tossed out the "H" word has all the uninformed news sources spewing more favorable B.S.
Headlines from google news: "Hackers Add Sex Scenes to Game Red Herring Hackers Modify PC Game New York Times"
Yeah I noticed the same thing. Basically it's a round about way of making what the modder did seem "illegal", confusing the non informed reader (the people upset about this), and giving the appearance of this being something which was added by a 3rd party.
The sad part is this is an easier sell to the groups all up in arms about this than being up front and honest.
1 - It's for people age 17+. I don't think too many parents with a 17 year old would be upset about the actual content unlocked by the mod.
2 - a 3rd party made this content available, not rockstar.
Anyway I'm not a big fan of people running around suing everyone, but if it does in fact turn out this "mod" added content - Rockstar should take the punk to town.
It's just too bad they aren't releasing another GTA soon, because this publicity is priceless
I've heard that Apple was a real pain in the ass for IBM. They may have even broke out the good campaign and threw a big party after Apple sent their "Dear John" letter.
Most of their sales will be small amounts (no bulk discount) so it's fair to use this as a "constant"
29.99 / 300 = $0.099966666666666666666666666666667 per 1g
So 0.099966666666666666666666666666667 * 3600 = $359.88
Ok so that doesn't add up..
Lets see if we can get that magic $60k number from somewhere.
Assume they operate 24/7 and the month has 30 days.
720hr * 15g = 10800g per month
$0.099966666666666666666666666666667 * 10800g = $1079.64 a month earned.
Let's make a few more assumptions (because I'm getting too lazy): Employees get no days off, aren't paid, and the farming shop is also the reseller (IGE probably adds at least 50% markup when they resell gold * guessing *)
$60000 / $1079.64 = 56 (rounded) employees
So yeah doesn't look like $60000 a month is very realistic.
$10000 / $1079.64 = 10 (rounded) sounds a bit more like it, but then you have wages ($1800) and the resellers much lower buying price. Then again they might have 300 employees, so who knows?
Yes it would, and this isn't the kind of "risk" you think it is. It's the same risk MS took with the XBox, and will with the 360. I'm guessing XBox was your first console right?
objHttpRequest.open("GET", url, bAsync);
objHttpRequest.send(null);// branch for IE/Windows ActiveX version
}
else if (window.ActiveXObject)
{
objHttpRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
if (objHttpRequest)
{
if(bAsync)objHttpRequest.onreadystatechange = ProcessCallBack;
I seriously doubt they would introduce AJAX for IE only - if you've used the.net framework you'd know that it's pretty friendly to non MS browsers. (Not perfect but not intentionally broken)
Besides if I don't like how it implements the client side of it, I can just make an inherited class and override what I want. Again something else you'd know if you'd ever worked with this "framework".
From the article: "Update: I neglected to mention that all the video in the "free" category has been "human scanned" for adult content and copyright violations, I'm told by a good source."
I was hoping there would be a "Safe Search" option like images.google.com
How the hell is the parent a troll? Time to go do some meta modderating I guess.
2 x 360s, PS3, Revolution, and a few DS and PSPs?! I don't suppose you are looking to adopt a 4th child, say a 26 year old Canadian boy?
I'm already house broken and moderately clean!
I'll put my money on "Can't master FPS with a console controller, and his younger siblings spank him in Halo 5 times a day.", or maybe yeah he is an @.
"Advantage != Automatic Win."

Journalists checking their facts? That's sooooo 1990, get with the times!

The point I was trying to make was I doubt anyone at IBM will cry over it.
"Furthermore, nVidia and ATI are marketing their GPUs as capable of taking over more primary PC functions"
Have a link for that info? I think this is the first I've heard of it.
I've heard that Apple was a real pain in the ass for IBM. They may have even broke out the good campaign and threw a big party after Apple sent their "Dear John" letter.
"C-News would tend to suggest that the Xbox 360 will encounter consumer resistance when it is launched in Japan."
No tell me it ain't so! I really expected the Xbox 360 to do so well in the Asian markets!
Oh crap I forgot to open my tag.
Right now, at least 65% of Slashdot readers are masturbating to porn instead of working.

Sure it didn't *wink* *wink*.. I hope he drags their asses to the labour board as well.
Well lets see.. It was mentioned the min. gold per hour in WoW one of these farmers HAD to get was 15.
So lets say they get 2 days off a week (not very likely).
12 hr * 15g = 180g/day
20 days * 180g = 3600g/month
Right now IGE will sell me 300g for $29.99

I don't - digging a hole to bury the maybe 3-4 prototypes that exist shouldn't be too hard.
" $25 / disc sounds REALLY high, though."
Buying only 4 games in the life of a platform sounds REALLY low.
Yes it would, and this isn't the kind of "risk" you think it is. It's the same risk MS took with the XBox, and will with the 360. I'm guessing XBox was your first console right?
Don't worry I just emailed Bill Gates this code:
// branch for native XMLHttpRequest object
// branch for IE/Windows ActiveX version
if (window.XMLHttpRequest)
{
objHttpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();
if(bAsync)objHttpRequest.onreadystatechange = ProcessCallBack;
objHttpRequest.open("GET", url, bAsync);
objHttpRequest.send(null);
}
else if (window.ActiveXObject)
{
objHttpRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
if (objHttpRequest)
{
if(bAsync)objHttpRequest.onreadystatechange = ProcessCallBack;
objHttpRequest.open("GET", url, bAsync);
objHttpRequest.send();
}
}
BUT seriously it isn't doing AJAX that's hard - it's doing it well. You should see some of the horrible/redundant code I've seen written for AJAX.
There is an AJAX framework for ASP.NET - I coded it about a year and a half ago. I think what you mean is "built into the dev environment/framework".
I seriously doubt they would introduce AJAX for IE only - if you've used the .net framework you'd know that it's pretty friendly to non MS browsers. (Not perfect but not intentionally broken)

Well I set a target of having sex with 10 billion hot university girls by Christmas. TRY BEATING THAT MOMENTUM!
I hope they left back doors in the code, and will go on to make loads of cash ebaying virtual items.
