    Met him at an exhibition of Trek stuff in Edinburgh.

    His Scottish accent worked pretty well in amongst genuine Scots as well.

    He was a nice bloke, it's a shame he is going through all this and can't just slip away quietly and with dignity.

    A corporation is a legal person so that not only can they do all the good things that involves but also they can have all the bad things happen to them.

    They can be sued, they can be charged with corporate manslaughter due to negligence (in the UK at least) and a large number of nasty things.

    With rights also come obligations, a corporation has to deal with both in the same way as an individual. The fact that few do is not a fault of them being a legal person but a fault in enforcing the law.

    Doesn't the Patriot Act actually specify anywhere what it is that the authorities can request ? If it does then surely the part of the act that has this information should be freely available.

    They really do believe that being sued by all and sundry is part of the normal course of their business and aren't shy about admitting it.

    Personally I've wondered if the time spent compiling compared to installing a binary distro like slackware has been made up in time saved due to any increased speed.

    I suppose they have to have some way of keeping the OS division cash flow positive until they get round to releasing "The Next Big Thing"

    Mind you, doesn't the release when it's ready sound a lot like Duke Nukem Forever ?

    While I can see the point of some of this, surely it isn't up to distro maintainers to decide which licences I can and can't accept for me.

    I thought the whole point of this was to get away from people dictating licence terms and allow free choice by the USERS rather than software suppliers.

    This whole thing probably isn't going to make me stop using XFree86, rather it is going to make it more inconvenient for me to do so as I will have to download it and compile it from source.

    That's MY decision to make, not someone elses.

    All this sounds very similar to Microsoft encouraging Lotus to develop for OS2 then suddenly appearing with Windows 3.0 and a whole raft of ready made applications for it.
