1. Paying 1c/1p for sending an email may still allow some spam to be profitable.
2. I dont want to pay to send email. I just dont, I like the fact its free to anywhere in the world.
3. Limiting the number of emails sent in a day is going to be very restrictive for companies.
4. There is no way everyone in the world in going to use this system.
5. It sounds too much like a single point of failure for email.
On a personal note i just stop spam by removing all html mails, if my friends send me junk in html format i explain carefully and with a pointy stick that I dont want html emails.
They needed a study to tell them sueing your customers is a bad idea!? Wow, you piss them off, they dont come back. Basic rule of selling things must be dont piss the customer off.
Ive been using freenet for quite a long time. And have, in the past hyped it up and distributed CDs of it and related software to people. As it stands at the moment I will not use freenet until it improves drastically. The latest builts wont retrive anything, even the common link pages. Last time i checked most site maintainers had abandened their site because the network was so sucky. Ian Clark seems to be one of the worst freenet developers. His conserns over the type of material beening distibuted seem to be one of the many reasons freenet development is not progressing as well as it should.
I only hope freenet will continue and grow into something to be proud of. We all need this kind of network, if not now, in the future.
Will these cheap and private enterprise driven launches lead to many more privately owned satellites in low earth orbit? Just wondering as this would have many very practical applications as well as leading to intense crowding in LEO.
Just a thought.
Moan, tell other people get them to moan too. A store in the UK used these (coupled with a camera system) on razors recently (there was a prev/. post) enough people complained and the store removed the tags. The only way to stop these constant attacks on our privacy is to activly resist them.
Oh and for people asking how to destroy these, if you can find them a hammer works. The problem is finding them.

RFID tags do not have an in built power supply, they are supplied with power by the scanner. IE scanner sends out pulse, tag responds. I know this is a bit simplistic but I hope it helps.
But here at work all the boxes have boring 2.99 generic keyboards with no extra functions, a decent tilt and a nice enough feel. The only thing that could improve it is to prise the windows key off.
Mind you my keyb at home is a huge ergonomic job and probably the best 10 ive ever spend. Its got no windows key a fantastic feel and the size and shape is great for my huge hands and has encouraged me to type better.
Face it other than satelite launches and because we want to, man has no pressing reason to go into space. The cold war drove the greatest space program to date but since apollo there has been a lot less political will to go to space.
Im guessing that when the Chinese land on the moon America might take a new interest in space exploration. But until then they seem to be happier spending money on blowing things up.
and thats the way it should be. I feel that if mandrake goes down this route, not only will it lose many linux users who will chose other distros, it may also effect public perception of linux and open source software.
How will it look to the average customer if free software has to resort to ads to make it profitable? I worry that this will make free software seem like a less viable alternative to more expensive products.
Why has this been implemented in a laptop? If its as good as it seems I'd much rather see it been used in tv's/flat screen moniters first and surely this would be a far larger market than laptop users alone?
Maybe im missing the point but a huge, 3d widescreen tv sounds pretty good to me!
I looked at this as a nice little jolly, then I saw how much they where charging. For other in my situation you could try www.brumcon.org just as good as should only cost about about 5.
Sorry.
While the register 'coming soon' page is not professional and just downright nasty this guy is just going too far. At worst the page would only be attached to his site for 48 hours while the DNS got sorted. Id agree with him that having popups on a page I own is wrong and not at all professional, but to sue (and win) that amount of money just seems petty and vindictive.
EBooks on my PC/palm are great for holding reference material and obscure publications that you only ever flick through. But I read a lot of fiction. If i pulled out my palm to read on the bus I would very quickly find myself being mugged. No one would ever want to mug me for my dog eared paperbacks. Also as far as im concerned theres something very satisfying about a book, be it the feel or smell, something you just dont get from a palm.
Site slashdoted already:
This SCO stuff is really starting to p*** me off, they clearly have no genuine claim, we know it, they know it. Rather than keep sounding off about it we may as well just wait for IBM etc to win the lawsuits and SCO to disapear. Even if the unthinkable happened and SCO had a claim they could only go after the distro companies, the individual users would be safish as long as they kept their mouth shut. GNU software would still exist, and at worst the kernel would have to have some code rewritten.
Funny becuase last time I used freenet (yesterday) the main links engine had only two very old (so probably inaccessable) links to that kind of content. I dont doubt there is plenty of it on freenet, just as there probably is on the internet. As long as its not easly visable theres not a lot anyone can do about it, sadly.
I dont really care about big pc sellers selling a crap pc with a linux option. Id much rather see the same retailers offering a their pc's with no operating system so buyers with some computer knowlage can chose what OS they put on it. Be it linux or an existing copy of windows.
Dont know whether this is true of you lot over the pond but 3G phones, which in effect are mobile video phones have been around in the UK for a few months and in europe a bit longer. But ive got to agree with some of the above posters.....I want me flying car!!

Glad I got that off my chest.

Indeed I nearly laughed myself stupid at the sight of one of these! Also seen DOS and OS/2 one tho.
They are goin to need all that cash to pay an army of blood suckers to fend of the laughable accusations of SCO

An independant firm carrying out a survey funded by M$. Is this a new version of "independant"?

Same old sh*t, different day. Other than alerting admins who really should know this is there a reason for having it on the front page?
