This may sound like a troll, but hopefully it won't be seen that way.....
In the overall scheme of things...what is the point of preserving the human race? Has Dr. Hawking ever shared his ideas on what the ultimate goal is, other than basic self-preservation?
How do we know it "developed" these features? What makes us think that this wasn't a species of animal that just always had these features?
I can definitely see the line of thinking if you begin with the assumption that there is no God, or Supreme Being, or external creative force, because that would fall into place very nicely.
But if you begin with the assumption that there is indeed a supreme being that created life, then I don't think this holds up as proof. If I believed in intelligent design, then I would assume that this being was created with these features, and just became extinct somewhere along the way.
I think it is very important to not only stop the bad habit, but to also replace it with a good one. It is better for you to try to do something good, than to try to avoid doing something that's bad.
It is very difficult to just stop doing whatever it is you are addicted to, because a lot of times you are left with nothing else to do but think about how you wish you were still doing whatever it was you are trying to avoid.
When you stop a disruptive behavior and replace it with something else, then I think your chances for success are much greater. The thing is to find something that is rewarding, and also adds value to your life.
Some random examples, depending on what kind of things you enjoy (not saying that all of these necessarily add value to your life, but they all are time consuming, and can be very rewarding in a variety of ways):
learn a new technology. Like, if you haven't done so before, try building a website, or start learning linux, or etc.
Learn to play a musical instrument (one that is easy to get started on...like electric guitar, as opposed to something like tuba)
Build something, like a new end table, or a bookshelf, or whatever.
Take up fishing, camping, gardening, photography, etc
Do something to help other people, like habitat for humanity, a soup kitchen, etc
Read the Hitchhiker's Guide books again, or read the bible, or whatever you are into.

It is good that the Claria stuff is still being detected, and maybe it is not necessarily bad that the default recommendation has changed, if one were to assume that all similar products were treated in the same way.
However, with some programs having the "ignore" recommendation, and others having "quarantine", it will probably give users the impression that Claria is at least somewhat ok, or something like that, which it is not (at least in my opinion).
Actually, what kind of impression does that give someone who doesn't know any better?
Something is detected by the spyware scanner, but the default recommendation is to leave it there.

I'm in a pretty small town outside of a metropolitan area on the east coast. We had early voting going on, and it was very crowded every time I went by there.
Today, election day, the polls opened at 6:30am. I got there at 6:40, and the line was down the street. It took about an hour to get through and vote.
This was the 4th presidential election I've been eligible to vote in, and this time it was far more crowded than any other time. I don't remember ever having to wait more than 20 minutes or so in the past.
This was one of the only times in my life so far I was actually _very_happy_ to wait in line because it means lots of people were out there voting.
I hope the guy I voted for wins, but no matter who it ends up being, I hope there won't a bunch of lawyers running around filing lawsuits and trampling and biting everyone in their path.
Don't tell anyone, but this guy is actually a rogue/spy, and he has a 24d6 sneak attack, which will come in handy just after the meet and greet get's going.
I would be very shocked if any candidate knew what webserver or OS their site was running on.
Personally, I would hesitate to vote for a candidate who was spending time tweaking httpd.conf.
The real danger is that this is just another form of automated justice
"Automated Justice" sounds like it could be a Steven Seagal movie.
They stole his ssh keys...
They removed his domain account from the Administrators group...
They disabled AutoPlay on all in the enterprise PCs...
But they forgot to disable his vengence (and his User Account Control).

I guess I should rephrase my question.
How do we know it "developed" these features? What makes us think that this wasn't a species of animal that just always had these features?

Now that I have put on my flameproof suit and tinfoil hat, I have a question to ask.
What makes this a "missing link," and not just a species of animal that is now extinct?
How do we know that it eventually became something else with better legs?

I know this is oversimplification, and it has been said many times before, but I can't help it.
Dear M$
Instead of making a spyware remover, why don't you change the behavior of your OS so that spyware won't be a concern in the first place?
I think that would make people hate you less.
Sincerely,

What about a patent on technology that aids the act of applying for a patent?
It's effectiveness would be inherently obvious, which is always a nice selling point.
a 'stand,' if you will, that is invisible to the average user
So, to average users it is invisible.
But, to power users and computer geniuses, they can see that it is on a shelf, and not actually floating in mid air.
