As Cowboy said above, full screen apps all the time is ridiculous. Sorry, I don't need my email app taking up my entire 24" display, thanks.
What I also found really annoying about apps is you can't easily close them. Esc does nothing, there is no "X" in the corners, nothing intuitive how to do it. I thought by time they hit the Release preview there would be some changes to this. The only way I found you can close them is my hiding/minimizing them, then bringing them up in app list in the top left corner thing-a-ma-jig, then right-click to bring up a "close" dialog.
App configuration is also a chore, the only way I found to bring up an apps options is to mouse over the "hot" top right corner of screen. Too bad this "corner" is about 1 pixel x 1 pixel. I'm not a GUI or usability designer, but the current app implementation is a chore to use. Perhaps there will be come big changes in the release, but as it stands right now there is no chance I would pay for an "App", let alone use a free one given the current design choices.
The lines would be huge!!!! Everyone I know who has tried 8, including myself, can't get enough of Metro and those amazing apps! I'm sure in the release version the apps won't blow, right?
What if people are smiling, double the fee again?
Its sunny outside, only 1.5 times the fee?
Liquor is served, 4 times fee?
Its a Saturday...?
Great, can't wait to see the RIAA, err SOCAN creeping up your friends wedding.
Sorry, but once Valve gets the game to 2 thats when they no longer make games in the series, with Counter Strike being the exception. Once they make Counter Strike 2 then its will be the last game in the series.

With XBOX 1 Nvidia burnt their bridges with Microsoft over licensing and Microsoft moved to ATI for the 360 since ATI would design the GPU for Microsoft, but Microsoft owns it.
I don't know what licensing agreement Sony & Nvidia had with the PS3, but if I'm Sony and I see what the other guys are doing I would rather go with the more flexible GPU design house. That and ATI's Fusion experience would probably help tip the scales in their favor too.
Not being a game developer I wonder what game devs would prefer, a PS4 chip architecture that is similar to other consoles/PC architecture but with the cost of starting with new dev kits/libraries, or sticking with Cell-based architecture but you still have big differences with PC/Xbox Next/Wii U. Seems to me the initial pain of working with new libraries and dev kits would be a time consumer at the beginning, but the long term gain of easier portability would be worth it in the end. Devs, what would you prefer?
They need to start by cleaning up the XMB and the PSN web page for starters. I've only had a PS3 for over a year, but from what I've heard they haven't touched the XMB design in years. I find it poorly designed, slow and in need of a refresh. The PSN web page is terrible and feels like it a design from 6 years ago.
Microsoft on the other hand keeps upgrading and refreshing the XBox dash and web site every 6 months or so. Sure they have had some hits and misses (ie the last dash), but I find I get where I want to go quicker and easier in their dashboard. The XBOX webpage is far superior to the PSN counterpart, you can actually do useful things on it. The PSN web page basically just allows you to see which of your friends are online.
If Sony is series about looking beyond hardware these are the two places they need to focus their efforts first, IMO.

Since I'm too lazy to RTFA, is the embedded device SDK meant to bring Kinect functionality to embedded devices/phones using your phone's built-in camera and mic? Or do you get to plug your Kinect into your phone and bring it with you on the bus?
Too bad CoD 4 was the last good game in the series. Since then they have eschewed any semblance of a story and have turned it into a MOAR shooty bang-bang, big explosions, lame slow-mo "kill the bad guy", I'm better than you bro-fist 5000 game.
I have to disagree. If it weren't for BF2, there would never have been the BF2142 and its glorious Titan mode. Too bad the series and been dumbed down so much since.
... because that is exactly what you would expect in a test of such a large system. The real surprise is if it would have worked without any issues on the first go round.
2142's Titan mode is the deepest BF game mode to date IMO. I've been in so many close games that have had the momentum shift back and forth, with Titans literally blowing up seconds apart. Its sad to see the BF franchise abandon this great game mode and instead lower the bar with game modes like TDM, although TDM does get rid of some of the KDR focused people from Conquest mode.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a box with a 8800GT in it that I plan on upgrading so I may have gotten hit by this too. After getting bitten with Fedora 10 not working with my older ATI-based system I no longer upgrade day 1 in order to avoid stuff like this.
Beginning your sentence with a fully capitalized FACT ensures that what follows is indeed a true, unbiased fact.
Ah, so that is why they spruced up the task manager!

Yes, Charlie is a known nVidia basher, but he backed up his findings in bumpgate. http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1049921/inquirer-confirms-apple-macbook-pros-nvidia-bad-bump-material Google bumpgate and you will find many articles about Nvidia paying OEMs hundreds of millions for their faulty graphics chips.

Nope, EA owns DICE lock, stock and barrel. They bought them out in 2006. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EA_Digital_Illusions_CE
