Now don't get me wrong, that looks like a horrible game and they made a lot of mistakes graphically, but it doesn't look THAT bad. The terrain textures and lighting effects, though not implemented too well, look at least current especially for budget. This goes in the other direction too. If it's a really good game but with horrible graphics, it gets a 10.
Let's take Vice City. Graphics scores same as gameplay? 'Fraid not. I'm personally a fan of high draw distance, high polys, and good lighting effects, which I'm afraid you won't find in Vice City.
Oh you're so right. Gamespy's always a gamble for me, because I never know when I might have my words scrunched into the right side of my Firebird window
Gimmick games. Among my collection are Harvest Moon, Seaman, Samba De Amigo w/ Maracas, Typing of the Dead w/keyboard, DDR w/ pad, Steel Battalion, hell I even bought a Jaguar off of eBay because I was amused by how many buttons it has. And you know I'd go nuts for my own Donkey Conga.
I'm not usually one to fall for consumer deathtraps but if they're trying something stupidly different, I'll go for it
Yeah they're cheap as hell but the refurbished (is that the word to use?) cartridge for my HP 970 cxi flat out didn't work. In fact, I think my printer's been really confused since.
Yeah they aren't the innovators they once were. Yeah Q2 and 3 were disappointments too.
What about Return to Castle Wolfenstein though? THERE was a fun game. So ID can still make a good game. I don't know if we can count on it, but it's still there.
That said, let's not analyze Doom 3 from their track record, but from what we've seen. I mean, have you watched a movie from this? Have you checked out these screen shots? This is a CREEPY and very atmospheric game. And those that have played it seem to love it.
Sequel-itis? Take a look around, the entire industry is choking on it. At least this is one I welcome
I don't know if I'd call this adaptive. In fact, I tended to just call it "cheap". Adaptive would be more like if you tend to shoot shells behind you, and the computer keeps a shell handy at all time to counter that shell
People have talked abou things like this for ages, now Apex is actually following through. If this were marketed as an Xbox killer, they would have done it differently. We would have had screens of usage, a pic of the controller, a little bit more name brand than VIA (ew...).
I think the article had it right. Yeah, you could play games on it (and it'll be easy) and I think that if this has a strong enough place in the market, game developers will have to make it compatible if they want to sell games. But there's more to it than that. This could indeed be a killer DIVX jukebox. Just as people often buy those MP3 boxes for their stereo, this could be the same thing, plus whatever the hell other features you want without it being an actual computer, because nobody's going to keep their computer sitting above the TV. That's why it says DVD player on it, guys. It's not trying to compete with the video gaming monsters
I think anybody who's putting serious money into a gaming console right now realizes that you have to put SERIOUS money in. The system wars are pretty much closed to new competitors. Just look at the little thing, it's not even menacing. It looks like a designer DVD player
I couldn't tell you anything about the music, myself. But I'll tell you this...the graphics got old, but the game is still haunting to me because of the sounds. The hissing of a cacodemon, the wheezes of the grunts, the chirping of the imps. Even today, I think it's one of the most creepy games around, simply because of that
Designing is only half the battle. Honestly, how many decent third party controllers have you used? While I wouldn't imagine it to be hard, I've never made one, but the third party controller crowd never seems to get things right, and if this guy's coming out of nowhere making a controller, I wouldn't expect much
While this is all pure speculation as I only glanced at TFA, and I've never used a portable DVD player, I would imagine that a cartridge based video player wouldn't skip on bumpy rides. Eh? Eh?
Actually, I wish programmers had worse video cards. It seems that nowadays game companies don't tweak their engine for the slower machine anymore. Back when Quake III came out, it ran SMOOTHLY on my 200 mhz machine. But even then that was anomaly. No One Lives Forever stuttered, despite looking much worse. Games today (though half of them are running on it) really haven't improved on Quake III all that much. I blame it on the processor war and its suddenly skyrocketing mhz, starting around 200.
Maybe we should give you a -100 flamebait, because it's obvious that a lot of us do care, or else we wouldn't be posting. Check the moderating guidelines: I haven't gained anything by reading your post, it's just you stating your apathy.
The irony here is I doubt anybody gained anything reading my post
I was extremely excited buying Viewtiful Joe and that excitement lasted about a week. Still, while during that time it was one of the most fun games I'd ever played and the visual style only accented it. It was a return to side-scrolling roots plus a few extras thrown in.
You're exaggerating a little bit. I don't recall ANY lens flare, I can only think of one move where you don't know what you're doing (like when you slow down, and I think that's probably intentional).
If you ask me Viewtiful Joe, though it wasn't as deep as it could have been, was a huge step in the right direction. Hopefully, developers will see the success of original titles like KOTOR, Wario Ware, Beyond Good and Evil and (I know it's a remake, but it's definitely one of the most refreshing games I've played) Prince of Persia, and the industry will wisen up.

Ah great game that I sucked at. But honestly, considering that this game barely can be considered VGA graphics, what were you expecting?

Please mod this guy up as informative (even if it means modding me a troll because I'll admit, porn's cooler than technology)

Slashdot should be a refuge from mentions of artists of such calibur as Pink.

Please, let's let the DNF jokes die (just as the game will)

sorry about the format, I need to hit that preview button a little more

Has the NGage sold anywhere near that many systems? I thought there were only about 5,000 on its launch. Of course, I didn't RTFA
Depends on what game you're playing
What keyboard?

I bet it rocks your penis too! Mod me up as a troll, I was just saying what we've all been hinting at this entire thread.
Could this say anything about Dreamcast games on an xbox?

Because they only run reasonably well

Screw computers! I'm going to go ride a bike!
