Do you know the difference between "grassroots" and "astroturf"? I would not be surprised if Nokia gives them money. But then again, some people love the weirdest junk...
With a rather limited storage system, Sega's PHANTASY STAR ONLINE does it right. Veteran players don't benefit from keeping all the shzit they amass; healing items are cheap, but the best items can not be bought, they are obtained by defeating enemies, so money is worth little.
What to do? They just give their shzit away to the n00bs. This way, players concentrate on the fun part of the game: killing monsters - which PSO also did better than any other online RPG.
Game economics? Screw it! Do you play to ammass virtual money or to have fun? I mean, is your D&D character a warrior or a banker?!
Straying a bit from the topic, but... if you like Metal Gear, another great game you should play is Sega's HEADHUNTER for Playstation2 (the Dreamcast version was only released in Europe).
Straying a bit off the topic... and straying a bit into illegality... but this is really interesting: it seems Propeller Arena is really going to be ripped and leaked at last! Check dreamcasthistory.com's message boards... ~_^
: When is the blood going to run down : the wall when you shoot somebody?
Blood running down a wall? Hey, I know a first-person shooter that had this effect - back in 1994! It is Technopop's Zero Tolerance for the Sega Genesis.
Shoot an enemy close to the wall: blood stain. Shoot the wall: damage texture. Animated wall textures. An animated, interactive landscape. Tons of weapons and various items like motion scanners, fire extinguishers, and bulletproof vests. Immense, multi-floor levels. That game - along with Ranger X, Alien Soldier, and Thunder Force 4 - pushed the good old Genny to its limits. If a first-person shooter ever really, REALLY deserved a sequel, Zero Tolerance is the one!
(actually they tried to make one, but it was never completed and Technopop no longer exists. The beta's ROM is out there, though)
The Sims, bad for the kids? Puh-leeze! Just WHAT is that place? I'd hate to live there. Someone has to subvert those kids a bit, shake their heads so they don't end up as pathetic as the current generation of uptight, church-going, game-fearing adults.
Forget the games for now. Get them "Catcher in the Rye", "Cinema Paradiso", "Dead Poets' Society", "School of Rock", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"...
I guess this is not viable for consoles, but it's a nice way to work if you make computer games. So, if you can develop quality games on a low budget... what to do? Publish them as shareware! In time, with some luck and a lot of hard work, your company may become big enough to make more complex games and publish them boxed.
Examples of this? iD, Ambrosia, Freeverse, Pangea, and Bungie.
I wonder how many people who insult Daikatana have actually played it. I didn't, but I doubt it can be any worse than Stormlord, Universal Soldier, Rainbow Island, Tomb Raider, Action 52, Double Dragon 3, or Crash Bandicoot...
Many awesome Saturn games, such as NiGHTS: into dreams, Radiant Silvergun, and the Panzer Dragoon series, have little chance, because most people don't know them - back in the day, they were playing turds like Trash Bandipoop on their PlayStinkys...
EA made some pretty good games (and some turds) back in the 16-bit days. The ROAD RASH series truly kicked ass, they were certainly among EA's finest games. But when was it last updated... the Nintendo64? Come on, EA, bring this classic back!
In Yu Suzuki's masterpieces Shenmue and Shenmue 2, hero Ryo Hazuki can play Yu Suzuki's early arcades: Hang On, Space Harrier, Out Run, and After Burner 2. Also, he can buy collectibles based on other Sega games, such as Sonic, NiGHTS, and 18 Wheeler.

What the hell? No Ryo + Nozomi (Shenmue), Ryudo + Elena (Grandia 2), Vyse + Aika + Fina (Skies of Arcadia), Jack Wade + Angela Stern (Headhunter), Shinra + Kagari (Ikaruga)... don't these people know what a DREAMCAST is?!
Pick some old-skool versus classic; for example, SUPER STREET FIGHTER II, or THE KING OF FIGHTERS 99. Have no mercy, kick your significant other's arse! It is a great way to show your affection! Of course, this is assuming both are hardcore gamers, so neither will win all the time. This way, you will respect each other more... and want to kick each other's arse more frequently, which means more gaming!
* BLAST OFF THE BYRDO EMPIRE, OR SOMETHING
No question about it, get a shmup - IKARUGA is just perfect - and, again, play as well as humanly possible. Again, assuming neither is a game n00b. If you two can play IKARUGA together and one-credit it on hard mode, that means you are the ultimate hardcore gaming couple: go get married, you were obviously born to each other!
Only two of Kenta Cho's games have been ported to MacOS X. You can get them at:

Okay, I know, PSO is not really massively multiplayer (only four players per game session), but it has lots of fun and action, and excellent graphics.
"No side-scrollers"? What the hell? Hey, there's this little thing called Gameboy Advance, ever heard of it?

NEC's PC Engine (aka TurboGrafx 16), i believe.

No, "MSX" is an old japanese 8-bit computer standard.
That is wrong... Street Fighter 2 ran on Capcom's CPS, not SNK's Neo Geo / MVS. Aren't you thinking of Fatal Fury or King of Fighters?
