You bring up a question I have. How the heck is Vista so resource hungry? I remember playing Jedi Knight on some cheapo video card when it came out and it ran great with good 3d graphics for the time. Look at what kind of hardware Quake ran on, compared to now that hardware is garbage. Yet Vista uses resources that push today's hardware to the limits. I really don't understand how it's possible.
I work in the shipping industry and people are actually very conscious of the length of transit time. A difference of a day can mean a happy customer that stays or an angry customer that leaves and goes to a competitor. This goes for cargo that seems unimportant.
They still have more or less of a monopoly by law since private companies are not allowed to do first class mail for less than 3x the price of a USPS stamp. (or something like that) Let's see them turn a profit without that law.
Guild Wars is not an MMO. The developers even say this. The only part of the game that is fully "online" are towns. Only your group is in each 'world' during the missions and quests. This makes hosting the game very resource friendly.
This is coming from a Guild Wars player, it is not a knock on it.
Except that VGA is an analogue connection.
Try a state school. It's less than half of that including room and board.
Doing the first 2 years at a CC would make it even cheaper. The poor are also able to get more grants/loans.
Education is affordable.
News service? Is this 1997? Let's be honest here.

The way this guy is yelling FACT reminds me of Dwight Shrute from The Office.
But do these servers play .ogg files?
Obama is going to try to become everyone's Myspace friend?
His computer isn't on the list of computers with affected batteries.
As a longtime /. user I have to say that that's the funniest thing I've ever read on here.
Why don't you just use the debian package instead of Nvidia's install?!?! It's much easier.
I don't feel so bad about the sodas when restaurants charge over a dollar for something that costs them mere cents.
Isn't the alcohol you refer to isopropyl alcohol? As opposed to Ethyl alcohol. Very different.
Most users on Slashdot won't click any links, especially links for the articles on which they are about to comment. ;)
You didn't mention grits!
In all fairness Direct3d is the important part of DirectX. Sound and input functions are a lot easier to port/re-code then 3d graphics.
What's the difference between a ps3 with more RAM and full linux, and a PC with a similar game controller and linux?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can't do 3d acceleration with that, meaning no real games.
Because it will have sound problems!
Sports get lots of funding without having actual use, apart from the huge economy of people wanting to watch people.
And promoting physical fitness, well being, and cooperation with others?

Perhaps the mice responded to a visual cue that had no sound or small. It's not that complicated.

You could also probably use one of those prepaid disposable credit card type things.

Actually not paying taxes is very American! Look at American history! i.e. Boston Tea party, the South resenting northern tariffs, etc. ;)
