What really matters to me is that I get paid to do something that I enjoy.
Yes. That truely is what matters. Am I correct in supposing the cost of living in Canada is similar to that of the Northern US? I'm sure it is significantly less then tech-heavy places like California.
If US companies are considering outsourcing to Canada, it seems like they could try other places in the US where they could hire people for less then in California or NY.
I live in Lexington, Ky which, despite being in a state with an agriculture based economy, has a fairly large tech community. Some big name companies here are IBM and Lexmark (LEXmark LEXington.) I read somewhere where Lexington is ranked 9th in US cities in percentages of persons with at least a Bachelors degree. It's a city where you can live lavishly or have a quiet and comfortable life. Hey, I've even seen Shatner in a coffee shop here.
I think there are still lots of opportunities in the US before the Canada route is taken. There are places other then the West Coast available for programming/tech jobs.
You can't really censor someone by arresting them. A jailed person can still have visitors, write letters, etc.
In this case, it might do exactly the opposite of censor him. He has been in hiding for a long time. Now he'll be in the US and while probably inprisoned, he'll have less of an incentive to keep quite.
From reading these posts though, he sounds like a complete nutjob. I doubt anyone will take him seriously. He'll just be another nutjob mailing letters to someone to post them on the web.

Bobby Fischer certainly made the US look much better than usual in that regard, but he has the view that he single-handedly changed the view of the United States from a baseball and football (US) country to one of intellectuals...
Well I had never heard of him before this. Chess requires an enormous amount of stragegy and intellect but the fact that one's a good chess player doesn't put him in the same class as others like Richard Feinman.
INTC fell 10% today, despite profits (or was it revenues?) doubling. Good time to buy?
It will probably be better in a few weeks. I saw an article (which I cannot find now) that said that Intel's stock fell after they reported an excess of inventory. So apparently, something's not being bought. Hopefully it will lower the prices in the stores.
i.e. "I didn't have PCI Express and the game worked fine." Thanks for that insight.
I have always heard that this is the case. From what I understand with current hardware, the bottleneck is the graphics chip, not the connection to the motherboard.
There's no reason at all to assume that the reviewer didn't test it with and without PCI Express.
You've run XP acceptably on 6 year old machines? Well, you are probably the only one in the world. Many PC-compatible 6 year old machines are limited in RAM to between 128 megs or so, which is not enough for XP
I have a 400 PIII(I think...) running XP with 512 RAM just fine. XP needs RAM. So does OSX. OSX was dead slow on my new powerbook with 256MB RAM before I bought a stick of 512MB.
No computer (PC or Mac) should ship with less then 512MB of ram.
Last time I checked it was rather difficult to enhance something already recorded... This seems like a gimmick to get onto the open source band wagon, it's just something which won't work outside of software IMO.
Yeah, this is getting a little old. Television has no source code to open. There have been several topics on slashdot like this as of late calling something open source that has no source code. The idea seemed to come from the topic description instead of the article for the previous ones. I havn't read this article so I don't know about it.
because there is just no substitute for a media that cost cents
Not today but dvd-rs didn't cost cents when they came out. Who's to say what technology will be here 10 years from now and how much it will cost?
I think it's a safe bet to say that dvds will not be the best thing available but will still be in use. Look at CDRs. DVDs are vastly superior to CDs (which were the top 10 years ago) but cds have done anything but vanish.
I'm sure there will be something better around for about the same price we aer paying for dvds but I doubt that DVDs will be obselete.

That I do. I don't know much about Mr. Feynman except for his reputation.

I think it's interesting that they are wondering how the engine will perform. I am much more interested how the human body reacts to this.
I don't know any reason why it would harm ones body but it sure doesn't sound like it would be good for it.
Two miles per second is an almost unfathomable speed to me. It's like me trying to fully grasp the vast distances of the universe. I just can't do it.
It must be because of the mild insult. Insults and personal attacks (even in jest) seem to be the preferred method of communication around here.
As "admin suite", i.e. a single program to do a lot of administrative tasks, maybe YaST could be a good start.
Well the problem here is that if he is presenting at a confrence, he can't assume that everyone is running SUSE.
Yes, because as everyone knows, heavy objects fall faster than light objects ...
No. But weighing the legs will lower the center of mass thus orienting the legs towards the ground. Like a badmitton(sp?) birdie and hot air baloons.

Duke Nukem Forever is like Godot. Just wait for it!
That has to be one of my favorite sigs that I have seen on slashdot. Good job.

Insightful?
Is this not a Princess Bride reference?

Well if he gets fired, they revoke his clearance like everyone else. He'll just be some guy in Mexico with a RFID chip in him.
Won't disabling active scripting disable windowsupdate? How then are the OSs supposed to stay up to date?
This is seriously gotten rediculous. This is a web browser. It's not the most complicated thing in the world.
I know that as of several years ago, dell was offering notebooks that would dual boot into redhat. Not sure whether or not they still do.
Then why not provide links?
Perhaps I should have. Thanks.
It was fixed. Fixed with bubblegum as an extension.
The fix was also not easy to find. It was not (and still isn't) listed on the firefox homepage.
I don't think anyone would blow off a suggestion from Mr. Kay if has has another use. I agree that this is another vague and empty statement.
However, I also don't care about legality in a situation like this.
Exactly. At least you will admit it though.
That is the problem with the world today. People like you think laws don't apply to them because they don't like them or agree with them.
Actually, from what I understand, ther is some Military training with laser tag.
