The government is simply "protecting" kids from stopping them buying booze...
That's the job of parents. Don't want your kid buying booze? Great. Don't give 'em the money to do so, and tell 'em they're grounded if they do. Hey, you could even take the bottle opener away if theybring in verbotten beverages.
Having the state threated to lock people in cages seems a much poorer remedy.
We need more Zelda games? Maybe instead of wasting time figuring out how to please people who love sequels, we could have had a few more original games.
In the event that such audit reveals any use of the Software by you other than in full compliance with the terms of this Agreement, you shall reimburse Macromedia for all reasonable expenses related to such audit.
So if I'm in violation when they do the audit, I just pay for the audit? If only the IRS worked this way.
I still believe that on balance the DS will have the better games overall.
I'm not so sure about this. The DS has been out for what... nearly a year now? And the only title worth buying is a dog simulator?
I'm really suprised at how small the catalog of DS games is. I thought there would be more high profile titles on it by now.
I did a lazy search on gamespot and it looks like the DS has only 4 more titles out than the PSP... and three of those are nintendogs. Can that be right?
I'd have to disagree. Movies were huge during the depression. People go to their cinema when they don't have the money for "better" forms of entertainment.
It simply won't happen until game consoles find a solution to having no mouse in FPS games.
I also prefer FPS gaming on a computer, but I think that the Halo phenonemon has disproven this.
You also will not see consoles beat out PC's until they add in ways to communicate with other people online that are simple and easy.
How hard is it to talk?
Gaming performance on the consoles has been getting closer and closer to the performance of a PC the last 10 years. The PC is being relegated to the niche markets. MMORPGs and RTSs are where the PC rules today. The PCs dominance in the FPS market is even waning. The problem isn't one of hardware. The games released on consoles are more accessable and more compelling than those on the PC.
It is the same reason telemarketers would love to call people that have reserved themselves against telemarketing, and the reason the show pop-ups to people with pop-up blockers. Many people are weak and have installed those in "self-defense".
So you're saying the do not call list and pop up blockers aren't there because many people don't like being irritated, but because they can't control themselves?
I'm not sure if you can judge how well it's working until the thing actually comes out. Sales will measure the success.
To be honest, I don't give a rat's ass about the Xbox right now. Once the game advertisements start airing, I think a lot of people will start paying attention.
By the looks of the ad, it would seem they're targeting ravers and people who play basketball on rooftops. They didn't seem to have time to play video games though.
When I watch television, movies, or read books, I'm not looking for a story geared towards 10 year olds. I want something more adult. I like the same things from my games.
I agree that making a game "mature" doesn't make it good, but it works both ways. Just because a game is gritty, doesn't make it bad. And just because a game has a fat plumber, it doesn't mean it's going to be fun.
I'll play Mario with my kids, but it's not interesting enough to hold my attention.

I'm glad the XBOX has the HD optional. Now Valve (and others) can't rely on supplying patches to fix their game when it's buggy at release.
And I'll take a mountain of salt with any advice or criticism coming from one of the geniuses responsible for Steam.
This is probably my favorite look at the IMing community.
The PSP browser makes those extended bathroom brakes much more educational.

Your line of thought goes against God's will.
He obviously invented the internet so that we may argue about religion.
Yeah, but with dialup I can click the link, watch some tv, grab a snack, wash my car and maybe when I come back it'll be done loading.
No need to make the thing portable really.
Try living somewhere hot. I can drive down the highway at 70 with all the windows and my sunroof open and still sweat.
I R Not dum. From the blogdex.com about page:
Blogdex is a research project of the MIT Media Laboratory tracking the diffusion of information through the weblog community.
Who R Dum now? And really, is typing the four extra charaters to magically transform your post into English that difficult?
Blogdex [blogdex.net] does this for websites.
No, blogdex does that for blogs, which means you can pretty much ignore all of it.
My point was that Nintendo could have done both.
They're targetting people who want to play games for the fun, not for the graphics.
Because we all know that you can't have both.
and play my son
What... like a drum set? Hopefully not like a trombone.

I find that hard to believe.
he's not going to let it go
He let someone else direct on ESB and RotJ, and I think they turned out quite well.
Lucas is a 'big idea' guy. He's good at that. He needs someone else to handle the detail work (script writing, directing).
Firefox, though built from the ashes of Netscape, was mainly driven as an alternative to I.E
Which was made as an alternative to Netscape. Open source software is no less innovative than closed software.
Why is MS making a desktop search tool? They ARE the desktop. Why don't they just improve the Windows search tool?

Gamers aren't their target market?
By the looks of the ad, it would seem they're targeting ravers and people who play basketball on rooftops. They didn't seem to have time to play video games though.
Who are they going after then?
So making a sequel is a bad thing, but remaking a ten year old game is a good thing.
Got it.
