You do realize that 1000 acre fire is small right? There are about 640 acres in a square mile. And fighting fires of 1000 acres is nothing. It's relatively easy. Hell, if fires stayed to 1000 acres (about a mile and a half square) , the forest service would be fighting those without any trouble. You'd be amazed at how big fires get and they still get put out by human intervention.

    Accuracry -- See Speed

Accessibility -- If you can cruise at 550 mph, there is nothing to say you can't get more water further from the fire and still make trips that take just as long as a regular water bomber. Also, Sky Harbor Airport here in Phoenix serves as the home base for the US Forest Service aircraft. Sky Harbor is somehting like the 4th largest airport in the country. I have a feeling that 747's could take off from here if really needed.

Are referring to this? First, trying to get a prop plane to go the speed of sound is something I don't want to try anytime soon. IIRC, you start encoutering problems with the blades and shockwaves. No thank you. Also, that aircraft is fairly tiny. Lastly, it's amazing that the government keeps pushing that plane through testing considering how many accidents in testing that have occured and killed US soldiers. Not too mention the aircraft has had quite a lengthy development cycle.

Maybe I should've said "translucency". All I meant was how in Gnome at least, the panel and the terminal windows can have transparency. The problem is that it's not "true" tranpsarency. If you put a window behind one of those objects, you won't see it. The way that the fake transparency works is that it takes a picture of your background and sets that as the background for that particular window. Thereby giving the illusion of transparency. The fd.o Xserver supports true transparency. Click here for an example of what I'm saying.

  19. Re:Contradiction? on NextFest · · Score: 1

Nope, it's the same cloak. The way this cloak works is that an image is projected onto it. This projected light will bounce back from where it came. The image that is projected is off the background. It's not really transparent, just a fake of it....kinda like transparency in the current Xserver. You are just taking a picture of what should be behind the object and putting that picture onto the object.

A week after installling SP2, you get a nice little letter from the boys in Redmond kindly asking you to refrain from stealing Windows. As an added bonus, they'll give you a coupon for 10% off the cost of Windows that is good at your local stores. Then Microsoft can make some more money off of people buying Windows to make up for the fact that the next version won't be out for a few years. This all of course is just a hypothetical situation.
