    The outside-to-inside writing of the data was most likely used to improve load and start times, which is also one reason for using tiny media. this was also the reason nintendo was late to move away from cart media.

    Philips (who only *invented* the CD standard) and secuROM breaks that standard, that is why it is unreliable, just as all other copy protection schemes, because if a disc complies with standards it can be copied.

    or use the sharpie to write all your product keys on the bottom of your keyboard, that way so long as you can get an image of the software you can install a legit key.

    actually i have the right to modify anything on my system as i see fit, i do not have the right to use such modificaitons to infringe on someone else's rights, such as illegally copying a game.

    actually distributing the cd crack for HL2 may not even be illegal on the basis that the steam activation remains in tact and that the system is still protected without the CD check.

    if the AC's company has no operations in europe their actions are perfectly legal, I know lots of governemts like to claim jurisdiction over everything their citizens encounter online, but I can assure you they could never enforce such claims (excepting the US govt, they enforce what they want when they want, regardless of national boundries, current administration, or constitutional limits).

    how does it get past the BIOS, no game should be able to do any more than Read any other games save slots. only the Game that owns the file and the BIOS menu should have the ability to mess with a file.

    IIRC ReactOS is an implementation of NT4, which probably would not run The Sims either.
