All the protesters are lined up on the sidewalk? I could grab a car and mow them down for a grand amount of points! I learned this from playing Fantavision.
And back in the 80's I used to dress in overalls and a fake moustache and kick turtles all day as well.
Hey now, National Geographics are the sole reason school libraries still exist. It's a sacred ceremony when the graduating 8th grader enlightens the 6th grader as to where the one really worn, National Geographic in the library is... hidden amongst all the unread and pristine issues.
I work for a company that has done this already, over a year ago. We make flexible solar cells and make tents, clothes, and backpacks out of them. About a month ago I watched our backpack charge up an iPod.
The article refers to the Interfaith list as a ranking, 'Doom 3, the #1 offender', when it's really in alphabetical order.
I was wondering how Doom 3 could be considered more violent than GTA: SA in the eyes of religious and censorship groups until I went to the Interfaith site myself.
Personally, I thank Interfaith for compiling this year's Christmas shopping list for me.
Games were the last frontier where I could go to get away from ads. Not any more, guess I won't be spending my $50 on games ever again.
Now I can be plagued with ads in my games, to go along with cellphone spam, email spam, TV ads, ads on busses, billboards, bumper stickers, mailbox fliers, movie previews....
I'm pretty sure there are no ads in my bathroom, but I'm scared to go check right now.
The M$ requirement for XP Pro is 1.5 gigs of space. Anyone else think the 1 T requirement will be a bit on the bloat side? What could Longhorn possibly have that's 750 times bigger than XP? I understand a little bloat, but they'd have to code the whole thing in Visual Basic 3.0 to make it that big.
Why would you be looking at 3D gaming video cards for a HTPC? IMHO that's a huge waste of money. My HTPC has a cheap GeForce4 MX card in it using the S-Video out and it shows movies just fine. Combined with SPDIF you'd think you were watching a DVD. Granted, the desktop doesn't look all that good, but keep in mind that a TV (NTSC) is in the 352x200-something range and at 640x480 you're trying to stuff twice as much info onto that TV.
I used to be an NVidia guy. I have a dual slot 5900 Ultra right now, and it's getting replaced with a smaller, less power hungry X800-XTPE in two weeks. Power isn't an option since I have an Antec TrueControl 550 supply, but when you take a lot of power which the 6800 obviously needs, you also throw off heat. And in Arizona, computers running hot is an issue.
The X800-XTPE is more quiet bang for the buck than a 6800U.
Re: Why do you need a card that produces games at that high of a res? a) 1024x768 looks like crap on a big monitor. b) If I'm running at 1600x1200 in a game and we're running at each other across a field, I'll see you first. With a decent res mouse you can pluck someone off when they're only 10 pixels wide. c) Because the women love it.
... why the only cracks/keygens I download are signed from groups I know. (DEViANCE in this case.) "You pirate!" you say, well...
I bought the 6 CD set. I have 2 computers that play games, one is for when people wanna come over and LAN. I have to disconnect the internet from all the computers on the lan because UT2004 contacts Atari and checks the keys in multiplayer, but that's fine. Kudos to Atari for having the hosting game proxy key checks... I actually had to alter my firewall rules.
Rise of Nations already does this, so maybe this trend is already starting. In RoN, the video card, memory, and CPU get grades (A, B, C, D, F) and the details/# of polys used is throttled down based on the grades. Of course, even with most things down the game still uses 256 megs of ram due to the sheer amount of content.
Not bad for a game by Microsoft (and Big Huge Games.)
Being a machine control developer, I take it upon myself to do extensive testing of my software before deploying it. (In fact, the code I just finished was partly a safety routine to make sure 10 ten-kilowatt power supplies can't turn on and kill somebody.) If you're coding an open-loop system (one without feedback from the equipment), you can only guess what's going on outside the computer and have to make sure you do what you can to keep things safe. If you're controlling a bathtub water valve for a baby bath and it's an open loop system... how do you know if the water temperature is safe for the baby? Who's fault is it if there's a burn? The designer? The operator?
On the other hand, if you're working with a closed loop system (outputs to equipment and feedbacks to read the state of the equipment), you have a lot more responsibility as a programmer. You should be able to check for most equipment failures (if the feedbacks work correctly) and disable the outputs in the case of a problem. The radiation machine in Panama should have feedbacks to control the output, and those feedbacks could be checked against a "lethal dose" value. If they're not, it's the programmers (and/or designers) fault IMHO. But if the people operating the equipment change the software (disable a sensor...etc) then it's all in their hands. Any modifications outside the original design should release the programmer against any liability because you can't predict changes not made by you.
Just because they endorse a card doesn't mean that Doom III won't work with an ATI card, or HL2 won't work with an NVIDIA card, or it will work less. It seems like people are already planning on not picking up a game they would otherwise have rushed out to buy because of endorsements. Do you need to buy a GeForceFX to play Doom 3? No. Does NVIDIA get money if you buy Doom 3? Probably not.
On another note... I actually tried the Doom 3 leak on my GeForce FX 5900 Ultra. A small blurb about it is on my website here.
It's not related to cruise control. The routine leans out your fuel mixture to save fuel when cruising at a semi-constant speed as you would on a highway. The EPA didn't agree with this idea since it actually increases emissions from the lean mixture (NOx I think) so GM disabled it.
I don't have a write-up as it was done over a few months. But my main source of info was http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/ and http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/ on the eprom forum. diyefi has a file (somewhere) that's a commented decompiled listing of a 89 Corvette eprom, which happened to be the same image I run, so that made it a lot easier.
Reprogramming the fuel injection computer on my car. When you change pretty much anything on the engine (cam, intake, etc...) in order to make it run to full potential, you really need to change the fuel tables.
Plus on 80/90's GM EFI cars, there's a cruise fuel saving routine that's not enabled from the factory. 29 MPG highway from a 350 CI V8 baybee.
I'm running 2.6.0 and the multitasking performance is easily noticed on my SMP machine. My samba shared folders transfer to windows boxes faster, and the screen updates in X with both processors pegged are fluid, instead of jerky like they were with 2.4.x.
FYI, the "unlimited" they refer to is the ability to connect, not the bandwidth. As shown here. Their packages (which incidentally, don't apply to my area) are listed here.
I average 250-300 gigs/month and haven't received anything.
I was having a very bad day, until I read this headline. Now I'm floating on air!
I hate X10 with a passion, and it's all due to the popups. But if they're going to be pushed from pop-ups, where else are they going to advertise? "Bulk Internet Marketing Email"?
It's a lot easier to shut off popups.
The Russian Space agency would probably have more accomplishments if they didn't seem to require every cosmonaut to be named Sergei.

Local news reported a $54 optional insurance fee for parents to cover the laptops in case of damage/theft.
I live a mile away from that school, now I'll have all the wifi access I can handle.

Hey, wait... I hope I'm joking.

A guy had a Koenig and it broke down at least seven times. Clutch, some part of the coolant system... I think the car's just made to look pretty.
\\COW has been up for: 108 day(s), 20 hour(s), 20 minute(s), 41 second(s)
I know people have problems with Windows but c'mon.
You just made my day, man.
What do you mean you don't have a record of my tax payment? I already....*cough* paid it!

There's hope for the male geeks yet! (Assuming you don't still live in your parents' basement. You don't, do you?)
