You can do this pretty cheap if you need to. Here is my setup. ATX computer case and power supply - I have a spendy lian li but that only gets you style points and little functionality gain over any other case. Gforce 7600gs - This is a relatively cheap card that will be able to decode 1080p hd content if you need it to. AMD X2 3800+ - Two cores is nice here so that you can run more than one cpu intensive process without getting choppiness while watching TV. I have 4GB of memory in the machine. I would recommend at least 2GB because optimally you want any HD content to be well buffered into memory. Swapping to disk will destroy your experience. A motherboard that does what you need it to do. You can get the cheapest motherboard possible and it should meet your needs. AV-710 sound card. This card will cost around 20 US dollars and it sounds just as good as an expensive creative card. It has 7.1 analog jacks and an SPDIF Optical out (if you have a receiver). HD-5500 HD tuner card - works out of the box. The only negative to this card is that the IR receiver that comes with it is somewhat of a hack to get working. I have it working if anyone has questions about that. 80GB hard drive or larger to allow for those really large HD tv feeds. I always wanted to make maps of various places too. I did make a quake2 map of my parents house back in grade school. I never made maps of schools or colleges that I attended for this very same reason however. I agree with the first poster, instead of arresting the kid, give him a mentor and if he is a really good map designer engage his curiosity, inginuity, and creativity. People need to realize that playing a game or creating a game is much safer and more productive than wandering the streets doing drugs and getting into real trouble. As a side note someone should arrest the programmers of the newer Microsoft flight simulator games. The games are encredibly accurate because they use satelite imagery and GPS coordinates to plot buildings in major world cities. The day after the 9/11 US WTC incident I jumped in my Boeing 737-300 and tried to fly the same route as they showed hijackers taking in the news. I did this in MS Flight Simulator 2000 of course and I found it fairly realistic and easy to fly. Although I did find that there were a lot of up drafts as I got close to the buildings in NYC. In anycase I'm no terrorist and I am sure this kid isn't either. Besides he is innocent until proven guilty. :-)

  9. My comments to the FDA on FDA Considers Redefining Chocolate · · Score: 1

Hello my name is Aaron Berg from Minnesota. As an individual consumer I believe it is not appropriate to allow a business to name a food type as "original" when it contains artificial or inferior "taste a like" products. The new proposed plan of allowing candy makers to mark their candies as chocolate when the only thing they contain is a very small percentage of coco powder and the rest being fillers is, I believe, not the correct way to handle the situation. Historically chocolate has consisted of two key ingredients coco power and coco butter. Products labeled Milk Chocolate contain milk. Allowing manufactures to name products not consisting of these ingredients means misleading consumers. Allowing this new naming standard would monetarily help companies that produce whey protein, like local Minnesota based Davisco foods, however it will not mean more jobs as these products are highly mechanically automated. It would also lower the high purity and quality standards that the FDA is known for. I appreciate your time and efforts to establish and justify standards. Please do not allow Docket: 2007P-0085 to pass. Thank you, Aaron Berg

All of the poorest nations of the world have both food and beer available. Remember all those sacks of flour that you see air dropped into Ethiopia? Nations such as Kenya or the poorest parts of India have street vendors that are just as convient and probably a cheaper and healthier alternative to Mc Donalds. Personally I think that it would be pretty cool to be able to get fresh grilled goat or chicken just by stepping outside the skyscraper where I work. The biggest issue with poor nations is corruption of their leadership. The leadership uses the resources that we as first world nations give them. Then again... This article explains a bit more about the CEO's explaination for what happened and what he hopes to happen for the future. An important note is that without this artificial heart all of the test subjects would have died slowly one organ failing at a time in a hospitol. The artificial heart allowed one patient to move back home. While others were allowed leave briefly for out of hospitol visits. Two died on the operating table. 42% eventually died from stroke. The reason why they died of stroke is because they were not given blood thinners which is common when a large non-tissue device is inserted into the body. The reason for not giving blood thinners was because all the patients had internal bleeding as a result of their failing heart. So its either bleed to death a few days after surgery or live for 6-18months more or less instantly from a stroke. IMHO I think that if the device has been found to work for 5-6 months minimum then it is worth making available to those who want to live just a little while longer. It should be the patients right to choose when and how to die if they can.
