He stated that he was using windows 98. Win9x has no concept of "network spooling" between shared printers. Now that he has moved to win2k, he can setup what you suggest.
I hate to say this, but in my experience, Mozilla drags down my AMD/550/128M to a standstill. It is the only Linux application that I use on a regular basis that swaps to disk. (Yes I use Open Office, but it doesn't swap this bad).
Let me finish,
The same box, with the Mozilla version for Win32 doesn't drag at all.
As a developer myself, I feel qualified in asking whats up with this? I made the switch to Linux back in 1996 (except for games), everything I do has always been faster completed in Linux than windows (or OS/2). Netscape 4.7x has always been faster under Linux than the same version under Win32. Whats up with that? Why isn't Mozilla faster under Linux?
The only sane reason I could come up with is generic SVGA support. Is this the reason that my Win32 Mozilla is faster than my Linux version?
I want to know. And don't construe this as a rant.
Do you know what irks me to no end? Am I the only person who still remembers that MS didn't even invent Netbios, the backbone of CIFS. They stole it from 3Com back in the middle 80's. Don't believe me? Google search on 3Com Lanmanager.
Back to your topic. I just informed my boss, that his backend SQL Server software might cost him a lot of money to talk to our numerous front end Linux clients. He might just finally spend some money on a Oracle or DB2 license. We are in a "wait and see what Microsoft does mode".
And before the flames begin, I just started with this company a little over a year ago. And yes, I am slowly introducing MySQL, PostGRES, etc. as options, so byte me:)
Not to be mean or disrespectfull of your comment. But this is also the exact behavior demonstrated by those of us having paranoid delusions. Look up paranoid + drugs on google. Noting against Wallace either.
You don't know much about the USA do you. It would take an Amendment to the Constitution to keep a sitting President in office longer than 8 years. To pass, such an Amendment would have to be ratified by 3/4 of the States.
We do not condone the the use of Monarchies here in America.
Not that I've attended any (too busy with job, wife, and kids), but I believe the local linux user group holds thier mettings on the third thursday of every month. I would personally rather meet slashdotters who attend those mettings rather than the ones with differing interests. No bias towards others intended.
Why,
My son and I just salvaged an original ][e from the scrap heap and rebuilt it. He learned more about micro computers this past summer than he will ever learn in school. Bank switching, Hi-Res graphic swapping etc. Obsolete? We now have this computer sitting in the corner of our computer room displaying random line art. We also use it to play load runner for hours on end.
Mr. Gore,
I live in Florida and voted for G.W. Bush. I would have CC'd you on this comment but your website does not apparently supply a email address that I could find (I did give a copy of this to GW, they have email feedback).
Anyway,
I am gladly retracting my vote for GW and giving
it too you. This has gone too far. Call off your lawyers and tell me again about your vision of the future and how it helps my family. Maybe this time I might believe it.

In both of your lessons, it all boils down to design. Can you, as a designer, imagine all the flaws in your design. :)
Enjoy.

In astronomy circles, it is also known as the 12th planet. AKA Planet-X. See Bode's rule.

Hmmm,
On our embedded linux product kernel size = 370000; Dedicated Application size = 477287.
No bloat here.
I don't know if this is what your looking for but I have found O'reilly's, Linux Device Drivers 2nd edition, a great reference for 2.4x development.
Enjoy

Personally, I am writing my congressman to have RMS elected to the Microsoft Watchdog committee.
